I couldn't agree with Boomer more, but it won't happen. The owners get to charge full price for tickets to preseason games and if you want to have season tickets, you MUSt buy the preseason tickets. So they make their normal killing from tickets, though they don't make as much from concessions during preseason because some people don't come to the games and others leave early. Meanwhile, the players are not paid for the preseason. That's right, they receive no pay for those games played. Therefore, the profit margin on these preseason games is huge for the owners. They'll never give that up.

I can't name a single Democrat who owns an NFL team. I think they're all Republicans. I know Abe Pollin is a Democrat. That's about it. Art Modell used to describe NFL owners this way: "We're a bunch of right-wing Republicans acting like socialists."

Am I in the wrong forum again?

No, Robert, this is what happens occasionally here at hR.... A normal, everyday topic starts, with nicely trimmed lawns and smiling neighbors and two cars in the driveway, then, just when you think it's safe to send the kids outside again.... BOOM, the politics come out of nowhere, start selling crack in the house next door, and shoot your dog. It's never pretty.

Anyway, yeah, the preseason is definitely too long. I think that's something that pretty much all fans and players agree on, but owners don't. Hell, at the very least let's make one or two of the games actually count.

I never understood why preseason was so long despite the fact that the "starters" or only seen in the first quarter. I think 2 games is plenty. The respective camps should sort out the good players from the bad / starters from reserves.

So Spence, I guess you're saying republicans are responsible for the teams that make up the best damn league / sport in the world?
