Hey everyone, I don't post much, but I thought that we went over last game enough and we should focus on the the Jets... Anyways, just wanted to see what everyone is expecting/hoping to see in the next game.
Here's my thoughts:
1) I felt that Brunell was just really outta sync and off target. I would like to see him get that precision and timing down. I don't know whose fault it was, but that INT was just a dumb move.
2) I really liked Espy, I felt like he might be one of the surprises of 2006. As a matter of fact, if I could take him back to the 05 season, I think he would have helped more then TJ or anyone else we had back then. I want to see him improving a bit and push Thrash for that last WR spot.
3) The starting D was awesome! But the back-up D was destroyed, other then McIntosh that is. I just want to see some solid play out of somebody other then Rocky. I can't think of another standout player in the depth chart.
4) Jason Campbell continually impressed me, he made a bad throw and it was picked off, but think what he could have done with more talent. Anyways, his poise, accuracy and power looked GREAT. I wanna see what he does with somebody better then just Espy. Let's see what he can do with the 1st/2nd string as opposed to the camp fodder. Let Collins work with the scrubs.
5) I DON'T want to see Collins anymore. I think this speaks for itself. And I also don't want to see Portis again this preseason, but for COMPLETELY different reasons...

Collins to be on the bench.....
the 2nd team Oline to make it happen a little more
Better running game
Betts to get some time....without being hurt.
Cash to learn how to stay in the end zone on kickoffs and stop trying to run out of there when he shouldn't be. (not impressive at all)

I don't know I thought Karon Riley looked good off the edge, and a few others from the 2nd string while Rocky was very impressive.
For the next game I hope we show some consistency in the running game and I agre about Brunell getting his timing down otherwise I'll want Campbel to be thrown to the wolves.
The backup OL needs to show major improvement in the next game or else we will need to scour the market for serviceable reserves and I'm afraid there is nothing there.

I would like us to sign some back up OTs this week and see what they can do against NY. Now that Betts is not getting traded we will need to look into FA.

Brunell wasn't that bad. He didn't put enough steam on the toss out of bounds...and honestly, I think the DB did an amazing job leaping for that ball. When it comes to Mark Brunell, you don't see mistakes like that happen twice. At least he tried to throw it out of bounds, unlike our "friend" Collins who prefered to throw it at D-linemen. Brunell looked fairly good on the downfield tosses....
Also, "throwing Campbell to the wolves" right now would throw a crutch into the team's current 5-year plan. It would mean the team's goals of going deep into the playoffs are now switched to rebuilding around an unexperienced QB. I don't think Redskins fans are prepared to watch what could have been a tremendous season turn into a .500 season because our QB is inexperienced and is going through typical growing pains. (See Carson Palmer in his first season...or Carr...or Harrington...or Smith...etc)

As for the Jets game .................. need to regroup the RB position. Don't want to put Betts back there unless he's 100% - not for a PSgame. Let White, Nemo, Sellers run with the first unit. FB's are what we have a lot of.
Otherwise we'll see more of last night ............. not much!

actually, i dont think brunell was trying to throw it out of bounds at all. It was miscommunication between brunell and lloyd. One of them messed up, either brunell threw the wrong route or lloyd ran the wrong route. i think brunell was expecting lloyd to run out the sideline, instead lloyd cut back to the middle of the field. the announcers even made reference to that

1) Campbell, #17, JC, and more Campbell
2) I'd like to see a few more successful running plays, hopefully with Betts, and better results for Rock.
3) See more Espy. Doesn't seem like we have space for this guy but he was a standout this week. Let's see what he can do against 1st string DB's.
4) Randel El. Get him in the mix before the regular season starts.

Interesting...I thought he was simply trying to toss it out of bounds and underthrew it a tad. I'd like to hear Gibbs' take on the INT.

I agree. That's what I thought. I'd like to see the play again, but if Brunell was throwing it out of bounds, it would have been intentional grounding because he was still in the pocket and there was no one near the ball. I think either Lloyd was supposed to be there, or Brunell threw it to the wrong spot.

1) I felt that Brunell was just really outta sync and off target. I would like to see him get that precision and timing down. I don't know whose fault it was, but that INT was just a dumb move. Agreed. Only problem here is that with the Portis injury, and as hesitant as Joe has already been in playing starters, how much time will Brunell really get? Your right, he needs to become more in sync with this offense or it will be a long year.
2) I really liked Espy, I felt like he might be one of the surprises of 2006. As a matter of fact, if I could take him back to the 05 season, I think he would have helped more then TJ or anyone else we had back then. I want to see him improving a bit and push Thrash for that last WR spot. He could be guarnateeing himself a PS spot. He will not supplant Thrash because of Thrash's special teams leadership and play.
3) The starting D was awesome! But the back-up D was destroyed, other then McIntosh that is. I just want to see some solid play out of somebody other then Rocky. I can't think of another standout player in the depth chart. Yup. 10 plays, minus 19 yards and pushing otu of scoring range twice. Two sacks froms tarters. Great perfromance. No, not great, dominating. I wann see a new kenny Wright. I wanna see an improved Wright. For an 8 year vet, he was very unimpressive. Also, will Sykes push for a depth spo ont he DL? Good game by him last night.
Campbell did what we hoped for. He looked good, made a mistake here or there, but has shown two things...he has progressed big time and he is comfortbale in the pocket, not nervous like Ramsey was. I like the kids pocket presence.
5) I DON'T want to see Collins anymore. I think this speaks for itself. And I also don't want to see Portis again this preseason, but for COMPLETELY different reasons... Nope, he sucks.
and I'll add one. I wanna see an all out war between Lonie and Frost!

I'm convinced he was throwing it out. Threw off his back foot ... the ball would have been about 1 yard from the marker (I assume that's the safe grounding the ball target)

i want to see some more of lloyd as well, he makes a great catch yesterday but seemed lackadaisical afterwards.
espy.
well i assume cash was cut before he got off the bus so i am looking forward to someone else contributing on returns. Can a bubble player like espy, lumsden, etc do something there to secure a spot?
i want to see cambell in a series in the first quarter.
with clemons out i assume mccune, havner and simon get some more time, someone needs to shine? Generally the linebacker battle should be something to key on.
i want another look at buck ortega.
kenny wright needs more reps to get comfortable on our defense, i have faith that he was a good pickup and just needs to settle in. But on that note i hope jimoh is back. Jimoh seems to always get better and better as the season goes on, i would like to see him start getting reps now so he can jump that curve.
Lumsden better be healthy and show something.
More of white. He seemed to really pretty good out there.

since tyler handled that chore, we do not know which one could kick off better. hopefully we get an answer this week

Here's what I'm looking for:
Jason Campbell - How will he look against a little better competition? Will he still have that poise and command he showed in the pocket against the Bengals?
Mike Espy - Will he keep it up? He's been having a great camp so far, better than even David Patten. Can he keep playing at this level?
David Patten - I've heard you're a pretty decent player. I still haven't seen it yet.
Ladell Betts - Betts, we need you. Can Betts stay healthy for us? Can he even get on the field?
OLine Depth - Step it up.
Manuel White - I'm hoping for Manuel to continue what he's building on since the Bengals game. Can he prove he's capable of playing for the Redskins?
Secondary Depth - Who will step up and take their role on this team? Reed Doughty, I'm looking at you. Hopefully Christian Morton continues to impress.
Joe Sykes - Keep it going. Will Sykes beat out Montgomery and Golston for a DLine spot? He's sure playing like he wants it.

i think the fact that collins sucked so bad yesterday is a reason why he needs more reps. the guy has been in the league and barely has any real game experience worth noting. we have to have better depth all around. collins needs to prove he can step in and produce if necessary.
id like to see jason campbell earlier in the game. progress is what im looking for from him.
the running game was pretty much non-existant last night. that needs to improve along with the 2nd string offensive line which was pathetic.
id like to see the starting offense get into a rhythm. that made some plays but i want to see them get into the endzone. (btw, did you all notice how much more spread out the field looked last night as opposed to last season when it seemed like everyone was crowded around the ball on passing plays.)
i want to see mcintosh play well again. it was good to see him constantly around the ball.

For those looking for more fodder for the Jets game, check out the "From the Locker Room" segment on Redskins.com TV. When Larry Michael reminds Randy Thomas that next week is the Jets, his eyes fire up and he says, "That's ol' Ramsey isn't it?" His look speaks volumes. I think the Jets game may have a few hits worth watching if Randy's reaction is any gauge.

very little of brunell. just one series. keep him healthy
manny white getting a carry or 2 and a screen pass or 2
lumsden running the ball and perhaps a kickoff return. ditto for combs
some progress by the o line reserves. better communication and perhaps even a few holes on running plays
more of espy and a little of patten
simon getting on the field.. havner, too if his elbow iwll permit it
more of morton at corner
lonie or frost kicking off
caron riley and sykes playing def end
some more plays by collins.. can he actually be that bad?.. also a half for campbell
more reps for doughty to let him get experience
it would not surprise me if we signed both wade and posey this week

I'm in favor of him never seeing the field again after that dreadful performance. He's been in league what like 12 years, I don't think he is anything but an emergency QB, and quasi-coach. Then again cut his *** and lets see Bramlet if thats the best he can do. :Peace:

In hindsight, Brunell didn't look too bad. I look forward to his progression through the system, as well as Campbell's progression to see if he's ready to be a starter, should Brunell go down. I also look forward to seeing Casey Bramlet step into the #3 Quarterback roll, because I think John Hall could throw it better than Collins.
I want more Espy. I love this guy. I hope Gibbs anounces today that Cash has been cut, so we can look forward to someone else returning kicks.
I also want to see what this Lumsden guy has to bring to the table. It looks like we may need a little bit of depth at the running back position this year, because in order to keep Portis healthy he is going to need some relief.
I also want to see Lonie in a little bit more action.
I don't want Moss to see the field at all for the rest of this preseason; we already have one playmaker down.

Mike Espy indeed looked impressive the other night. I know this core of receivers is deep, but you must find room on the squad with someone of his ability and most importantly, heart.
Although the preseason can be an ugly affair with miscues and injuries, I do enjoy looking at the young guys. You can really tell who comes to play and who doesnt. There are some clear standouts, both positive and negative.
There are several things I took away from last night's performace:
1: Our starting D is ready. Wow those boys looked pumped.
2. Seeing a full back draw was freaky, havent seen that in awhile (but I like it).
3. I have serious concerns about Kenny Wrights performance. My biggest fear is that he gets lined up on the outside.. one on one with a big TE and gets smoked for a fade in the corner of the endzone. Kind of like the way he got smoked repeatedly last night.
4. Todd Collins is a 10 yr veteran right? Ok.. just checking.
5. Campbell's got a bunch of promise.. he is going to be a good one.

Kenny was smoked a lot but he was playing without starting safety help. His safeties were often out of position. I think Chris Henry is still looking for his mouthpiece if Taylor or Archuletta are out there on that fade.

Not to mention that Chris Henry, while an even better criminal, is one of the best 3rd WRs in the league. And then to have Kelley Washington 4th? That's a tall order (literally) for Kenny Wright to be able to handle. I'm really bitter that we didn't get to see Jimoh play. He's a bigger guy and I'm intrigued to see what he has been able to glean from Jerry Gray's tutelage.

Personally, there is only one thing I am looking for: NO INJURIES. I haven't commented on the first game, because I had no way of seeing it from over here, but as soon as I saw the two words "Portis" and "injured" one next to the other I was about to pass out. And I'm really sorry for the other two injuries as well...

I'm really anxious to see us get some pressure on the quarterback with JUST THE FRONT FOUR. It seems like we still have to throw exotic blitzes to really get pressure on the QB. Defense played great but......the only D lineman I saw get even a little pressure was Griffen....who nearly had a sack....and Carter who was in the backfield once.....but other than that nothing. Did anyone esle notice this??????????
And also I'd like to see Brunell play better.

What I want from the next game:
No injuries.
More progress from all 3 qb's! (Yes, Collins is on our team and I would like to see him play better. It seems like many people are thrilled he looked so bad because they are dying to get Campbell on the field no matter what the expense to our team or Campbell's long tern future.)
Some kind of running game.
More from Cartwright, Espy, White, McIntosh, Lloyd, and Hall.
Something from Randle-El, Patten, Betts, & Carter.
Our 2nd and 3rd teams to compete better against their opposition.
