Stock said he was impressed with Leaverton and I guess he was. Hopefully he can be good enough to beat out Barker

Interesting. They wouldn't bother signing a punter unless they were serious about him. There is more than punting at stake here, though. Who is going to be the new holder if Barker is released? If it is Leaverton, has he any experience with it?

If that is the case then it should be okay. Barker's under the gun now.

More importantly, does he have a face mask with nose protection?

This new punter will not do any punting against NE. He may take over KO duties after Hall handles the first one. Problem is, if we don't score, he won't even be doing that.

Anyway, the NE game is a one game showdown between Bartholomew and Barker. The loser goes, the winner stays and competes with the new guy.

Yup just read that. Saturday is doomsday for one of them, the other gets a bit if life support. Leaverton will be ijnteresting, don't know much about him, but I heard he is very good at kickoffs, has a strong leg. Anybody know much about him as far as accuracy?

Here is a little info from the 2001 draft

Redshirted in 1996. Punted at the start of the ’97 season but had a very tough go of it in the UCLA game and lost his job. Reclaimed his job in ’98 and averaged 38.9 yards on 56 kicks. Averaged 42.6-57 in ’99 and kicked off 43 times with 18 touchbacks. Got off to a really good start in 2000 until a foot injury hampered his punting and prevented him from continuing to kick off. At one point, was averaging about 46 yards per kick but ended the year with a 40.9-yard average on 59 kicks.
Positives: Excellent size. Very strong leg. Can kick for great distance and hang time. Can kick off. Will tackle.

Negatives: Still very erratic. Kicking really fell off after he was hurt. Is not a good directional, coffin-corner-type placement punter. Will outkick his coverage at times.

Summary: Needs more consistency but has a big-league leg.

In other words, it is time for Coach Stock to earn his paycheck and turn that big time leg into big time results.

One positive if he makes the team, look at the size of both of our kickers! They are friggin' huge.
