...as a 49er, in this article from SFIllustrated.com - see for yourself:

Newcomer Taylor Jacobs didn’t get many opportunities to show his stuff Wednesday morning during his first practice session with the 49ers, but when he did he made a distinct impression - both good and bad on the same play....

...The fourth-year wide receiver, acquired Monday from the Washington Redskins in a trade for cornerback Mike Rumph, got behind the 49ers’ secondary and streaked down the middle of the field as quarterback Trent Dilfer sailed a pass that went some 60 yards in the air.

Jacobs caught up to it at the last second as he separated from defenders, reached for the ball over his shoulder … and then dropped the pass after Dilfer put it right on his fingertips, drawing more than a few hoots and groans from his new teammates.

“I know, I know,” Jacobs said after practice. “I could have made a play on the ball and just didn’t make the play. But it feels good just to be playing hard, you know, getting shots.”
WELCOME, MIKE RUMPH.

I hope they have fun with his "potential"

The 49ers aren't aware that he is in the NFL PRACTICE HOF. The guy will look like Steve Smith or Santana Moss in practice, but he will look like Freddie Mitchell on game day.

Hey TJ, you will be parking cars with Jaquez Green in less than 2 years!

Rough man rough

But very true. Potential is TJ's curse word. He will never reach it though.

I would say it's time for TJ to head north to the CFL, but as long as teams keep giving him shots in the NFL, he will gladly stick around and make that big boy chedda!

Yeah, his pay is "chedda", his play is cheese whiz.

You gotta love his "work hard" comment. After this and his "I ran hard in practice" comment just before we released him, I am starting to think that Taylor feels he deserves an NFL salary just for simply putting forth an effort. There are a million dudes that are willing and able to line up and make an effort in the NFL and get paid for it, but there are only about 1,700 players good enough to be on an NFL roster and produce.

Sorry, T - you aint one of em.

I'm surprised by this considering how well TJ was said to be in practice. Now he can't perform in practice so I think the next we hear about him will be in Canada. Peace TJ!!!

This story might very well be the perfect representative microcosm for his career to this point. Lots of promise but results just out of reach. Now, if he had gotten up and limped back to the sideline, the parallel would've been uncanny. ;)

I was thinking more of him telling the coaches he has a concussion.

The thing that bugs me is that he is implying that he didn't get his "shots" here..how many more shots does he need after being basically the #2 receiver for the whole time Patten was down last season (and doing absolutely nothing)?

very self serving, if that is the position that taylor is taking.. soon enough his production there will determine his future

49ers | Jacobs excited for fresh start
Thu, 17 Aug 2006 10:56:32 -0700

Chrissy Mauck, of SF49ers.com, reports San Francisco 49ers WR Taylor Jacobs is excited about getting a clean slate with a new team. Jacobs intends to dive headfirst into learning the team's offensive system so he can be an asset to the 49ers. "It's a new start," Jacobs said. "I don't think for me I could have gone to any better of a situation. I needed a fresh start. I knew my skill was not the issue. I just needed a fresh start to get the ball rolling my way."

Now the gloves are off. He had his chance last year in the playoff game. Even before that. Goodbye and so long, ye last of the GatorSkins.

I am happy because this means he passed his physical. I was afraid that he would fail and be standing on the sideline for Saturday's game.

These comments sum up his career accurately up to this point. Jacobs seems like a likeable guy that just can't put it all together.
