View Full Version : #2 pick: LJ, LT or S. Alexander?

I have the #2 pick in our non-keeper FFL. KC looked like the offense may be real ineffective last night against the Giants so I don't know if that lessens Larry Johnson's value (along w/ their O-line changes ...). Any thoughts?

I might go Peyton Manning with #2 if LT is taken #1. Manning will be passing ALOT this year and LJ and ALexander are missing nkey ingredients on their line and passing game to protect them.

Funny you suggested Peyton ... it's a sore spot with me. I had him during his 49 TD yr and picked him up last yr in the top 3 at the suggestion of the guy who i shared my team with ... needlesstosay, we sucked last yr! So you think LT should be taken if he isn't taken #1?

Absolutely....if CP was not injured I may take him over LJ and Alexander...it at least would be a close call.

if i had a chance to get LT, i would take him in a heartbeat

Larry Johnson is so overrated IMO. Not that he isn't a good back, but I don't see the Chiefs being nearly as good offensively.
Grab LT or Alexander. #2 is too high to take a QB from what I understand.

LT is going to be the focal point of the offense. SA just got a new contract and Seattle still likes to throw more than they should. LJ is in a new offense which would concern me greatly so I would be hard pressed to pick him as my first back.
I say LT, with SA a close second.

The thing about Peyton Manning is, you don't know if he's going to even play week 16 or 17-the time when you might be in the championship game. At that point the Colts may have already chinched home field advantage and it might be Sorgi time. Same could be said for Sean Alexander I guess.
Larry Johnson and LT will probably still be fighting for a playoff spot in week 16-17.
The thing that concerns me about the Chiefs is their defense looked pathetic against the Gints last night-even more pathetic than usual. They might be forced to play catch-up all the time and not run the ball as much.

If you take Manning #2, your league will laugh you out of the draft room!
The #1 pick will be one of the three you listed...
Its hard to rank them, but I'd take them in this order: LT, LJ and SA.
Good luck!

That's what I was thinking too.

All three of those RBs are going to have to get used to something new this year.
LJ no longer has Saunders or his stud FB to bust holes...Shaun Alexander's o-line isn't the same as last year, especially on the left side...and LT has a new QB in town with little to no experience.
The reason I put LT above the rest, is because LT has proven to get it done with lesser talent before...so I see no reason for his numbers to fall.

I don't know much bout fantasy but i don't see how 1 - 2 don't include Alexander and Tomlinson.
I'm not quite sure why Larry Johnson is rated so high. I think that o is heading south in a hurry. They lost their best lineman. They lost perhaps the best lead blocker in the nfl. They lost their offensive guru and have a new HC.
I'd put at least 6 backs before LJ.

It doesn't matter to me, because i got shaun alexander at NUMBER FOUR in my draft!!! It went LJ, LT, Carson palmer (lol), and then me.
I would probably go with tomlinson if he's there, but if he isn't i would actually say peyton manning because of the loss of edge

That's true about SA, but he still has walter jones who is arguabley the best tackle in the nfl right now

Rather than start a new thread I'll elaborate on this one ... just found out I have the dreaded 4th pick in my league. I'm assuming it'll go: LJ, LT, and Alexander like you guys discussed already. That leaves me to choose from Tiki (getting old), Edge (shaky o-line), Ronnie Brown (2nd year player), Rudi Johnson ...
I'm set on picking a RB. Not sure I want to reach for Manning this high.
Any suggestions?

Most drafts have Stephen Jackson and/or Tiki Barber going at #4. (Post-Clinton injury)
If this is a keeper league, go with Jackson. If this is a redraft league, go with Tiki.

Tiki or Rudi, toss up between those 2 one gets goalline stolen by Jacobs, the other splits time with C. Perry.

No love for Ronnie Brown? Seems like an interesting pick with their O this year - Culpepper has looked good in preseason.

Portis dropped on my draft board when we got Duckett and I saw Sellers run. I know he will be effective but I have no idea how many carries he will get at the goalline. That is why I would go with Alexander because he gets loads of carries at the goalline.

I got Ronnie at 1.8 in a redraft this year. In a keeper, he is probably going as high as 1.5.
That is a bit high for my taste. We havent' really gotten a chance to see what he can do yet. I think you would be better off with Tiki. I don't think you can go wrong with him.

I read that Jacobs is going to steal some goal line carries from Tiki and I'm worried that his stock his inflated after a really good season ... only good thing is I have a week to decide. Of course the shocker could be for someone above me to take Manning and then I take the 3rd best RB - that would be sweet!

I got LT with the 3rd pick in the draft today.
I was mighty pleased.

I'm holding out hope that people in my leauge (non-Skins fans) will forget about Portis due to his injury and he'll be there in round 2. I had him last year and would love to have him again.
At this point I'm trying to decide between Steven Jackson and Ronnie Brown ... I'm not sold that Tiki can preform like last year (maybe it's the B&G colored glasses!!!). There is also Rudi, but they play in a tough division ...

Steven Jackson will be on the team with the most offensive touches..Florida
players always seem to wear down by the end of the season..and Culpepper
has alot of options..I think dante will still call his own number..it seems the Rams are committed to putting the Ball in Jackson's hands..and to me they still get the benefit of playing division games vs some weak run stoppers in Ariz. and SF..but starting the season vs. Denver might not be a good beginning

Yes, but we read that Brandon Jacobs was going to vulture Tiki's goal line carries last year. Jacobs got 5 TDs from the 1...yet Tiki still notched 9 TDs to go with his 1,800 yards.
Sellers was probably more of a goaline vulture to Portis than Jacobs was to Tiki last year...

Welcome to HR. But I disagree. LJ had a great line and great system, and he doesn't have that this year. He'll still be productive, but he won't be the mega back everyone thinks he will be.

I liked the reasoning where someone said that if you extrapolate his 9 starts last yr and then cut off 25% from that, he still has like 1600 yards and double digit TD's. That sold me.

As long as Willie Roaf and Welbourne are off the field and Saunders is in DC, pass on LJ.

This year's #1-3 picks all had uncertainties which is not usual for all of them. Shaun Alexander has had O-line changes. LJ has lost 2 dominant Tackles and his fullback. LT has an untested QB.
