Going with Green. I know some other players had better individual years with us. But DG locked down a starting position on defense for two generation of Redskin fans. Not only that he did it while excelling over that entire period of time.
That was a tremendous assett for the Redskins D over those years and I vote for him.

Mr. Redskin, no doubt.

Looks like this is gonna be a photo finish.
I personally had to go w/ the guy that had the finest season I've ever seen by an NFL DB in 1998.

sam huff... why ??
because he changed the entire attitude of a defense. from soft and porous to tough.. he was past his prime, but he brought a heart transplant to the team

I may be biased because he is my favorite Redskin of all time, but I have to say Darrell Green. How many other players can you name that played for 20 years at that high of a level? He was the fastest man in the NFL for a long time and could outrun guys 15-20 years younger than him. Maybe we should resign him to be our nickle this year...

It is easy to pick Darrell, but I think Dexter was such a huge impact player, he made things happen when he played. I remember his sack and forced fumblein Superbowl 17 and can picture the scared look on David Woodleys face as he got up.
Dexter Manley.

Green, because as a body of work for the Washington Redskins, Darrell has no equal. 20 years of CB play, about 15 of them at a pro bowl level, who else has that for us? Most of the other deserving candidates played their best ball for someone else (Huff, Krause).

I chose Dave Butz.
He was the quintesstial DT with a long career.
You could not run on this guy.He occupied space and that allowed the players around him to thrive.
He wasn't flashy like Dex,but he allowed Dex to do what he did best, rush the passer.
He didn't play in a glamorous position like Darrell, where contact is a parttime job.
He was in the trenches where the battles are won and lost.He was a LB's [ala Sam Huff-different era]]best friend.

Ken Houston. Hall of Famer. One of three on the list. The only one who played the majority of his best years in Washington. Twelve straight pro bowls from 1968-1979. Pro bowl every year he was a Redskin, except his final year.
Guys...Twelve pro bowls in 14 year career. No one comes close to that offense or defense. Hanburger is closest with 9. (PSF I will give Hanburger some love, he made my short list. Axegrinder, I also thought hard about Butz too. He did not play a glamour postion, but he anchored the whole defense for a long time. Everyone talks about shut down corners, but what about shut down tackles. If an offense can't go up the middle, it takes one third of the field away, just like a shut down corner does. That is essentially what he did for over a decade.)

I won't argue against Houston. He made one of the greatest plays in Redskins history and for that alone he can be considered. But counting probowls is meaningless when considering "football greatness". Now if you want to talk about popularity than probowls should be considered.

what i find fascinating in these last 2 polls is that one player who is winning (green) was probably seen playing live by everyone here and one (baugh) by probably no one.. and yet there is consensus

I don't understand the question.
Are you asking best single year? Best Redskins Career?
I personally think that Wilbur Marshall had the best single year of any Redskins performer on defense.

I went with Darrell Green. Not only was he good, but he could shut down guys like Randy Moss, Jerry Rice, and Tim Brown for a day. He played 5 inches taller than he really was.

D Green all day, he should be a first ballot HOFamer but the way Monk has been snubbed you never know.

How can a player with 17 years and 11 allpro recognitions not be in the HOF? As bad as Art monk being ignored. BTW, he was a LATE round draft choice, and today would not only be a FA, but would not be considered a priority FA.

Im not voting. I have no idea what the question is asking of me. I have the sense you are right though, as that seems to be the way all of these things go.
