As a Boston fan, this has been an incredibly painful weekend. Not only are the Yankees in position to sweep a 5 game series, but to do it with an almost ease about it. I think that the Yankees are indeed the front runner to win the whole thing. Their only concern would have to be in a short series against one of the other AL teams that has good pitching (Twins).

Yeah, most of my "Sox friends" think the team is toast at this point, but I don't know many people that believe in the Yankees yet. Since their successful 3 of 4 in the 90s, the Yankees have reminded me more of the Braves.

Theo made a HUGE mistake not making a move at the deadline.

You need to be a Chernobyl baby with ten hands to count the number of Theo mistakes made in the past year. How he recieved a reputation as a quality GM is beyond me.

Oh I know it. They thought the team was saved when he came back from his attention whore sabbatical.

I do like the extension they gave Beckett though. Ha

I think the irony is that if the Sox had Schilling last season they might have repeated, but now that they have Schil back the rest of their staff has fallen apart.

But anyways, I'm pretty suprised how the season is shaping up. I was not in any way impressed with the Yanks staff heading into the season and thought the Sox staff was going to be at least adequate. Who'd of thought that Mussina would turn back into an ace or that they could get a consistent 5-6 innings out of Jared Wright, not to mention their middle relief?

Agreed to some extent, but unless they got a quality starter along with a RF bat, then it probably wouldn't have been worth Lester and Hansen. However, losing Varitek killed them(less than the injuries to their rotation). And that happened 1 day too late for them. I think Hinske was a good move, but they made it 3 weeks too late. What will be interesting is how big the desperation moves they'll make in the offseason, you know Theo is going to get a mandate to improve and probably make plays for Soriano and a couple name starters.

I think the biggest thing is how well, for the most part, Proctor, Myers and Farnsworth have been.

Yep, the new modern day Boston massacre. Theo should of pulled the trigger on the Abreau trade to be sure.

Unless Abreau could've pitched out of the bullpen they were toast. Plus they didn't want to be on the hook for that salary next year. There's only one team that can take on that kind of salary, Yankees. I'm not complaining, it's just the way it is. That Yankee lineup is so good in the sense that they never give away an at bat. They work the count beautifully and it takes a starting pitcher 100 pitches to get through 6 innings.

Theo's biggest problem as a GM is that he can't construct a bullpen. Their bullpen has been terrible every year since he's been GM.

I'm not giving up yet, but I just don't see how they can get through the 7th and 8th innings any night with a lead with the bullpen they've got right now.
