Well I guess I'll kick this new forum off. I figure it would be good to get an idea of who is currently playing youth sports, parents of kids in sports or involved coaching (or was involved), or anything else related. Hopefully we will be able to find some good resources from this group.

I am currently an assistant high school football coach here in Lexington, KY.

My son is involved in youth football and wrestling. I will get him on here at times. Leave him be Dorsey and don't fill his head with your venom!

I coach youth basketball (8-10 year olds)...last year we finished dead last with 0 wins...atleast we get the 1st pick in the draft this year! Last year we had by far the shortest team in the league, so I'm going to have to draft some big kids this year.

yea I gotta lotta stuff brah I can teach you....We'll talk next week.

If your club can get a contract to do the NFL JPD (Junior Player Development) camp it'll be great for you.

There as a coach, you recieve a cd with every position broken down Pat Kirwan fron the NFL teaches the drills absultely unbelievable!!!!

The funny thing as that they use John Madden (Game) to assist in showing how certain things are done. I do JPD every year. gets me back into football mode.....I hope that this helps....we got weigh ins tonight and we scrimmage montgomery villiage tommorow ...will give you all an update....

Why else would be missing the tailgates? ;)

I coach the Defensive Line and I run the special teams for the Varsity and I call the JV/Freshman Defense for games.

My 11-year old daughter is on the HS Varsity swim team. (I don't know about other places, but in Minnesota 7th and 8th Graders can compete at the HS level.) She showed up last week for the first day of practice and they put her in lane 6 of the pool with the other new swimmers. The next day, the coach moved her into lane 4 with the returning JV swimmers. The next day, the coach moved her up to lane 2 with the returning Varsity swimmers. When that practice was over, the coach invited her to come to the morning workouts too. So this past week she experience the joy that is two-a-days.

My 8-year old daughter is signed up to play soccer at the park across the street from out house, and she will also swim for the club team that the older kid swims for.

My 6-year old son played t-ball this summer and is signed up for flag football this fall. My wife actually signed him up while I was away one weekend. I was pretty shocked by this, since I know she doesn't really want him playing football.

In the past I have coached t-ball, soccer and swimming, but swimming is the only one that I really have any business coaching.

My 9 year old daughter is playing her first year on the Loudoun County traveling soccer team, on team D which is the bottom but the feeder to the elite A and B squad's. She just completed her 2nd season on the swim team.

My 6 year daughter is starting her 3rd season in the "house" soccer league. She also just completed her 2nd year on the swim team.

My 18 month year old is already showing a strong arm throwing things, I think she might be a softball player. :)

Hey nice new forum, kinda a big takeoff on the little thread that I started awhile back!

I am the Club Administrator and on the Board of Directors for the Frederick Youth Rugby Football Club (www.frederickyouthrugby.org) and Hubbo is the U17 Tackle coach. Both of my sons play tackle Rugby.

Michael is also on the Brunswick HS soccer team and Jake plays I-70 Football (Middletown-Orange) he recently switched teams because the team he used to play for has 38 kids on its Varsity squad this year. He felt that he'd have a better opportunity to start on a smaller team.

PS: Jake's coach E-Mailed me this AM to say that Jake won Defensive Player of the Week for his excellent play on Saturday! 9 tackles and 3 sacks!

Sorry to hear that pal, but school is important! I think it's great that you want to coach soccer, I hope everything works out for you...but most importantly...school, let us know if we can help!

My kids are both swimmers. Didn't see any others into that around here. I assist and my wife helps coach. I'm really impressed with the level of involvement in Youth sports around here at hR. Looks like this community is really trying to give something back. That is so awesome. YOu should all be proud.

my oldest son, Drew, plays travel baseball. He is a beast. He turned 13 aug. 6th, is 5'9" 170 has a short stroke and led his team in homers, rbi, avg. and his fastball has been clocked mid 70's. Lives, breaths baseball, and is doing a offseason baseball training program at a baseball facility where they focus on speed, agility, core strength, fielding, batting, and pitching.

My 11 year old, Jordan, is the quietest of my 3 boys by nature, but is a totally different creature on the football field. It is so exciting to see, because my shy quiet boy, becomes ray lewis when he plays football. getting his teammates pumped up and directing them on the field as a leader. I even saw him slapping his hands on his helmet to get himself psyched up from his middle linebacker position while the quarterback was calling his cadence!:lol1: If you could only know his quiet nature to see the total contrast that this is you would be laughing too! ha

my youngest son really isnt into sports but we have signed him up for tae kwon doe(sp?) and we will see how he takes to that starting in september.

This is a great idea for a forum. This is going to be fun.

I know, I'm working on it. The coaching thing is something that I've been wanting to do and I want to be a coach for a job on the side when I grow up so I think that would be a good start.

Catching up a little here, my oldest daughter's traveling soccer team finally won their first game last week, and my daughter scored two goals in the victory.
My 6 year old scored 4 goals today in their opener for the house league but they still lost.

Congrats! 20-0 sounds like a convincing win to me.
What age/weight are you coaching or is this high school?

So the Swimming season is over for HS girls here in Minnesota and at the team dinner last week, my 11-year old daughter was awarded a Varsity Letter for work this season. She was the only 7th Grader on the team to letter this season. She was pretty excited about it. And she is looking forward to being a 6-year letter winner. (I have warned her about counting chickens before they hatch.)

PS: At Jake's football banquet he got runner up Defensive Player of the year. The kid who got it deserved it, but that kid also got Offensive Player of the year runner up...he was just that good, so they had to give him one or the other! Jake was just happy to be nominated...or at least we were happy that he was nominated, Jake was just happy there was free ice cream!

Thought i'd revive this thread

This year i'm the JV O-line coach as opposed to a varsity volunteer.

Our first game is on my birthday, Sunday September 9. 10 am. I'm gonna miss at least the 1st quarter of the skins game unfortunately. I feel like a HS win and a Redskins win would be a good birthday present though.

Great job JJ! Thanks for being a coach, we parents of players appreciate all that you do.

I will have 2 sons in HS sports this year at 2 different HS. Michael chose to stay at his school after our move and will play Varsity soccer this fall.
Jake will play Freshman football for the new school, Middletown HS thankfully not on the same nights!
