Help!
I have tomorrow off, so Mrs. DJ and I are heading out to watch a matinee. Since our move, we have only seen one movie all summer (Talledega Nights), and we need to catch up!
Which one do you recommend?

In polls like this I don't even read the other choices. The answer is Snakes on a Plane.

Haven't seen any of them but I would go with Beerfest. I know that's a shocker. ;)

You have to see Pirates - awesome movie ... I typically don't see movies twice in the theaters, but I would go back and see that again. And you don't really need to see the 1st one to enjoy it either (would be nice, but not a must).

I'm planning on going to see Crank tomorrow if this place isn't flooded...so thats what I voted for.

LOL...I really enjoyed Super Troopers and Club Dread, so I'm sure I would like Beerfest. My wife didn't like those movies so she may be hesitant to go to this one.
Dustin - I put Snakes on this poll almost as a joke, since there is no way my wife will go.
I'm personally leaning towards Pirates2, while my wife is leaning towards Little Miss Sunshine. (comedy staring Steve Carrell)

I voted Beerfest, but that was before I saw the movie was with the Mrs. I really don't know most of the others? Pirates maybe?

Little Miss Sunshine was probably my favorite movie I've seen all year (and I see a ton).
I thought Pirates and Snakes were ok. I found Accepted to be rather lame. Might check out Beerfest this weekend. That seems to be good for a dumb laugh, but Little Miss Sunshine is pretty unique, dark, and very funny.
It is also one of the highest rated movies of the year on Rotten Tomatoes (93%).

You should defenitly check out Little Miss Sunshine. Far and away the best movie out of this batch.

I'd say "Pirates". It has a minimum guaranteed entertainment level, so you're less likely to feel like you just wasted $10.

Its between little miss sunshine and beerfest.
They are vastly different movies, so see the one that you are more in the mood for. The other 4 I would pass on though. You can wait to see Pirates until Pirates 3 comes out, Pirates 2 was only half a movie anyway...why bother?

Probably too late now, but as far as seeing a worthy movie on the big screen, go see Pirates everything else is probably ok on video

SoaP is the most FUN movie of all the ones you have listed, but I understand if the wifey doesn't want to go see it.
The best movie left, as Whit so carefully pointed out, is LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE. It's the funniest movie I've seen this year, but is also a little dark, and extremely insightful. There's no way you don't like this movie... and Alan Arkin deserves an Oscar for his performance.

Thanks to everyone who gave their 2 cents. I talked it over with the mrs and we are going to see Little Miss Sunshine. (We are both big Steve Carrell fans)
Quick question; Is this comedy anything like a Wes Anderson comedy? I ask, because I've never enjoyed his work, and this looks similar to his movies.
Does LMS compare to any other movies you have seen before? (or comparable experiences)

LMS definitely has the small movie, indie charm to it.
It's NOTHING like a Wes Anderson film. It's funny, but unbelievably dark humor. If you're easily offended by sex and language, you may not find it funny. I think you'll enjoy it though... it's one of the best of the year.

Cool. Thanks!
I'm not easily offended by anything. Sounds like a good flick. (almost like Garden State?) I'll report back tomorrow.

I liken the second Pirates to The Empire Strikes Back. Only marginally less good than the first one, but clearly setting up the Return of the Jedi. ;)

I agree with Mom. Pirates is a great movie to see in a theater on the big screen. It's a good storyline, pretty darn funny, and the action is great. Very entertaining.

Actually, I saw Little Miss Sunshine last night. The electricity went out at the house (as it always does in my neighborhood when a dog so much as urinates on the power pole) so we decided to go see a movie.
I was pleasantly surprised with this movie. It had an indee feel to it, but it didn't have the requisite pomp or pretentiousness of so many indee films these days. I would also say that the underlying subplots were woven together very well as was the symbolism. All in all, it was one of the better scripts I can recall coming out of Hollywood in years.

Ha! You might think it is about my typically cheerful outlook, but it wasn't. It was a pretty good movie, if for no other reason because it was original. It wasn't a tired old retread concept or remake, cast with big names so as to simply churn the revenue engine. If you don't go see it, I definitely suggest it on DVD.
I should also mention that parts of LMS are funny as hell.

You'll like it. I think you'll pick up on the subplots and symbolism quite well. It didn't have any noticeable lulls and was woven together very nicely, IMO.

i've actually only seen one of those completely but i saw 10+ minutes of three of them today cuz i work at rio and i was ushering. but based on what i've seen, beer fest looks like it would have been the best choice. I haven't seen any parts of Little Miss Sunshine or Cranked, though.
