Sorry about the short hiatus folks, but I really wasn't online much this weekend at all. That said, there really isn't much news out there other than cuts and practice squads...

Bumbling Redskins (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?slug=cr-redskins090306&prov=yhoo&type=lgns)
A winless preseason has come and gone, and the assumed NFC powerhouse spent the last month running stripped-down schemes, resting injured players and generally looking like a beach ball that had a piano dropped on it. In turn, the storm clouds have churned overhead, and Washington has started to look like a frontrunner in the race for the most talented NFC East team likely to stumble and miss the playoffs. And if it wasn't for Joe Gibbs – whose team went 0-4 during the 1982 preseason but reached the next two Super Bowls – it might be time to panic.

I found this quote interesting in the Saunders article...
BALL HOGGING
The 2005 Chiefs' average time of possession of 32:09 was third in the league, behind only Denver (32:37) and Dallas (32:24). The Chiefs ran 1,059 plays, third in the league behind Arizona (1,075) and Dallas (1,071).
Do you think this might have helped them win some games? And make their D look better than it was? Let's see if they can ball hog again this year...

I didn't want to start a thread for this but it is significant enough to post here.

The Redskins have signed veteran offensive lineman Todd Wade, the team announced on Tuesday. To make room for Wade, the team released lineman Ndukwe Ikuchuku.

Good move on signing Wade. I wonder if the PS will be juggled to make room for Ndukwe. If he was good enough to make the roster coming out of camp, then they would surely want him on the PS.

Why is everyone quick to hype the Dallass D? It was horrible down the stretch last season as witnessed by the 35 points we hung on them.

The media loves Parcells. They have a nice D, but it is blown out b/c of the love for BP. I don't get it myself b/c he treats them like dirt in press conferences.
Re: Wade, I hope he has improved since he left Miami, but he was single handedly the WORST pass protecting OT I have ever seen a few years ago. This scares the living heck out me personally b/c this guy is horrendous. Maybe he is better in the run game (Ricky Williams was doing well back then), butthe guy was putrid against pass rushers. I think Freeny put up 3-4 sacks on him in one game and that doesn't count all the hurries and knock downs. I'll worry about the season if either Jansen or Samuels get banged up.

ISF, that was the point I was trying to make... I don't think their D is as great as the media's making it out to be. I think the ball control offense that Dallas was apparently using helped to make their D look better than what the stats show.
Imagine if we our team last year control the clock better than it did at the end of the season... we would be talking about repeat this year instead of the Steelers?!?!?

I think this move was more of an insurance policy against Molinaro going in... we had Walter, Pucillo, Ndukwe and Molinaro as backups. Mo was the only tackle. Bringing in Wade gives us two at OT...

I didn't mean you when I said "everyone", which is counterintuitive I know. Sorry about that.

Well, they released Ndukwe, who was strictly a guard, to sign him so maybe that's what Wade will play here. I think Molinaro will be the first tackle off the bench for either side and Tyson Walter is a tackle too and he made the squad.

yeah but who do we have at guard? Dock and Thomas are the only true guards i see on the roster. I realize Pullico can play G or C but he's Caseys immediate backup, so to me now we're really thin at G if Thomas or Dock were to go down. Did we really do much here besides create a lack of depth inside because we were worried about the outside?

I trust the coaching staff so I won't question, but I kid you not when I say how horrendous Wade was when I saw him with the Dolphins. I think the # of carries Wanndestadt called for RW and the fact that he was pounded to death are partially why he turned to weed. I'm telling you, it was medicinal. :D

Yeah Smoak I always try to have faith in the coaches too, I'm sure they looked at the lack of interior depth and have a plan I just have memories of Raymer trying to fill in at G last year when Thomas and Brown went down, it wasnt his natural position and it showed, I guess as long Casey is healthy Pullico could fill in at G.

I don't think it is too far-fetched to think that if we can establish a ball control offense, our defense will look pretty phenomenal.
Both in terms of yards/points and also in terms of take-aways and scoring defense as teams have to pass more to catch-up. Fun to think about.

Tyson Walter was a cowboy and he has bounced around the league because he can play OG and OT. Not sure how well he can play at either one but he is able to play both so he is a back-up type on most teams.
