First, some positives:
1) Trung Canidate - Started to display the running we need, including a nice 6 yard TD run.
2) Kenny Watson - 10 runs, 62 yards, 6.2 average. Still looking like he SHOULD beat out Watson and McCoullough to be on this roster.
3) Lav Coles - 2 catches, 64 yards. This is the big play ability we payed for, and I am glad to see it.
4) Defense - The first few drives were bad, but if you take away their ONE big play where Terrell fell down and gave up an 85 yard TD, we pretty much held our own. NO we aren't the Ravens of course.
5) Bryan Barker - Yea, he has been the object of much scrutiny, but he had 4 punts and averaged 44 yards. Not too shabby. Can he keep doing it?
6) JOHN FRICKIN HALL!!! A chip shot and a 47 yarder! This could be the FA pickup of the century we are looking at. How long has it been?
7) Yea, this is gonna sound classless, but Vick getting hurt really helps us in week 2. I love VaTech and I love Vick, so I hate to see him get hurt like this. But stating that it helps us is just stating the facts.
Also, I think the defense was MUCH improved:
The starting units played the entire 1st half.
Here are the Pats Drives for said half:
1) Plays: 6, Yards: 40, Result: 5 yard TD run
2) Plays: 3, Yards: 90, Result: 85 yard TD pass where Terrell fell due to a bad call on a blitz package. Of course, had Champ gotten a sack, we would be raving at the brilliance of the call, but cest la.
3) Plays: 4, Yards: 5, Result: PUNT
4) Plays: 6, Yards: 17, Result: PUNT
5) Plays: 5, Yards: 5, Result: PUNT
6) Plays: 4, Yards: -1, Result: PUNT
7) Plays: 11, Yards: 16, Result: Missed FG

I agree with everything Rat has said here. I thought it was a better showing. I think Bauman deserves some blame on the long TD catch. Other than that, the D settled down and played well. Watson really impressed me. Trung did well, but I thought Watson did better. Ramsey made some dumb plays and some good ones as expected. If he could have kept Coles on his feet, that would have been a TD. Coles is a monster and I definately like what I'm seeing from him. The Oline needs to play better and Spurrier has to think about handling the blitz. I thought the Pats ran alot of stunts on the dline which surprised me. Even though we lost, I thought we played better than last week.

I agree with you guys on this too. I think we looked alot better than last week. I was happy to see Trung get it going a little. He still doesn't have enough power. Watson is who I have been rooting for the whole time. Watson looks a little "Ahman Greenish" in my opinion. I don't know about Terrell???? Bowmen may be doing his job but I still haven't seen him "Rock anyones World" yet.
I also liked the play calling. Rob Johnson is looking sharper and so is the second string line. R.J. still makes me nervous when he holds the ball and takes off to run.
Betts better get that elbow in order. I bet they try to get him in the next two games so they can dangle him to the Bears.....
Watson is my guy. I hope he can stay consistant.

Personally, I hope we were dangling watson out there. So i hope he does well and we can get some value for him. I think that Betts is too good to give up on already... it's not like he hasn't played well when given the opportunity.

Its a tough decision for me to make. One day I'm for trading Watson......then the next day I wouldn't mind seeing Betts traded. As long as we get a good DT out of it, I guess I don't care.
As for the game, I didn't get to watch this one. But from I read on the game thread, Trung played very well. And didn'e he play against the Pats 1st string D?
Rat Boy, you give me a lot of hope. Sounds like we did play a lot better this week around. Thats what you want to see during preseason. Progression.

Its all about heart. When they go out there and play with a little bit of heart, they show alot of potential. Look a how much better they played after Noble went down. It was like they were pissed off, and the D played much better. Pretty much shut them down the rest of the game. We could have won that game.

The little I got to see of this game, I would say we were 60 percent better. I like the fact that Trotter played the whole first half, rells me he is feeling well

Not sure I can agree that Watson did better than Trung last night.
Trung had 5 carries, 33 yards, 6.6 avg, and our only TD of the preseason, against starters.
Watson had 10 carries, 62 yards, 6.2 avg, and no TD's against mostly backups.
But they both looked impressive and I think the FO better think LONG and HARD about who to keep if they stick with the "we are only keepin 3 backs" byeline.

Trotter was solid out there...Ram still looks lost sometimes..I really hope Spurrier runs more during the season for Rams sake. Take soem pressure of the kid. Dockery looked good as well.

i completely agree that we looked a helluvalot better than last week. trung looked really good IMO.after the first couple of drives, the D bounced back and was solid throughout. bruce smith looked fresh for an elderly man. ladarius jackson and renaldo wynn looked good too. i was at the game at the very, very top. you can see plays developing and i saw that bomb to david patten and i just have to say that david terrell sucks. all that talk about him stepping up in TC had me thinking he'd be better, but he still continues to get burned. hes too slow and cant tackle. i was pleased with the improvement and i know that preseason games dont count but we HAVE to be smalltimore next week!

To me that is the whole thing about preseason, IMPROVEMENT. And there was plenty of that Saturday night. IF we make that much progress this Saturday, we'll be in good shape come Sept 4.

TOTALLY agree with you, Rat.... I'll give the Pats the first drive, but the 2nd drive was a flukey play, IMO.... If, Bauman, at the least, bumps Patten then it might've enabled Terrell to get a better play on the ball.... Overall, I think the defense played fairly well.... Was it me or did anyone else noticed the 'Skins front line collapsing the pocket on the Pats? Not only did the 'Skins put occasional heat on Brady, but they wasn't allowing him to step up in the pocket.... I don't think the D-line is very good, but I don't think they are as bad, as we all might think.... The 'Skins seem to be progressing.... And, that is what we all hope they will do as the rest of the preseason leading into the regular season.

Yeah the more I read, Bauman blew the play.
Take that freak TD away we stand at 13-13. Then the damn other TD comes to the same crap we are gettiung used to dealing with, a failed special teams coverage. Man for guys playing to make the roster, leaving KRs go for Tds is not away to make the team. Anyone see any glaring missed tackles on the TD return and who was responsible for them?
