I want to give a thank you to Mark for playing a smart game and making some great throws.

And to Marcus for always flying to the ball and getting involved in nearly every tackle.

Thanks to Clinton for never playing like a man who was hurting even though he probably was. It was awesome to see him out on the field again.

Thanks to the o-line for helping to make his return a successful one, and for not giving up a single sack.

Thanks to the d-line for going up against a powerhouse of an o-line and keeping the running game in-check.

Warrick Holdman deserves thanks for making a couple really nice plays after the disappointing season he had last year. I bet it felt great to be out there making plays, it's just too bad it all had to end on a loss.

Randle El made a great debut. He has so much potential and just like Moss last year, I hope he keeps it up and shows that not having a lot of catches on his previous team just means that they didn't throw him the ball enough.

Thanks to John Hall for trying his best.

Thanks to Brandon Lloyd for joining the Redskins. And Adam Archuletta. Welcome to the best team in the NFL. I have no doubt in my mind that it won't be long before you show why you deserve to be here.

Thanks to the whole team for being so much fun to cheer for. Last season was the most memorable I've ever had as a fan. Keep your heads high and keep having fun and this season will bring even more success.

The loss hurt, but there were times in the game when I was cheering and screaming and having more fun that I've had since last January. Thank you for bringing that feeling back to me.

Go beat Dallas.

...and thank you for starting this thread. I'm dissapointed, but it's a long season and there are a lot of positives to take from this game. At least the team didn't look like utter dog-poo from top to bottom like Dallas did yesterday.

a very charitable comment.. true, the team did not lay down, but their effort was really insufficient at home, on both sides of the ball..

turnovers ?

third down stops?

pressure of any meaningfull kind?

third down coversions of their own?

where were cooley and lloyd?

motion alone does not make an offense complex

What's good about this game is that: 1.) We lost to a pretty good team, 2.) Our mistakes can be worked on and fixed, and 3.) Our playcalling will only get better as Coach Saunders sees his players play more on the field.

A dissapointment for sure, but there's 15 more games to go.

I am excited about the new playbook. Couple more games and we could be an offensive nightmare for other teams. O-line needs to step up their play but I am sure they will. Eventhough we lost I feel good about our potential.

After the dust settles it's time to ride this bad boy with the team we love. Remember the 3 game losing streak to go 5-6 last year? 0-1 doesn't mean anything other then it's only going to be better from here on out.

That's cause he always loses week 1, or nearly loses, to crappy teams like the Bills.

Give special kudos to two people

Clinton Portis for a gutsy performance and Demetric Evans for proving why he shoudl start.

Hey, this a great thread. Even though I'm going to be bummed this week, I know that it's a long season and we have plenty of time to prove what we can do. I love the motivation around here.

Hopefully your statement will ring true. However, we had an opportunity to test the new playbook during the preseason. Instead the keyword was "vanilla". The start of the season is not the time to figure out your playbook.

Right on. You should also ask where was Carter? I find it hard to be optimistic after this game and the preseason. Yes the Skins are not as bad as they appeared in the preseason, but they are also not a good team at this point - they could not beat a good team at home. Fact is they were outplayed. The game was only close because of the Viking penalties and a missed extra point.
Yes there were some positives, but not enough to outweigh the negatives.

...and the game was only close because the Skins didn't punch the ball in when they were in the end zone. They win the game with even one TD replacing a FG.

It just sucks seeing threads dedicated to running players out of town. Our coaches aren't idiots and they are keeping him here for a very simple reason: Right now there is no better option. So, yes, at this point I expect the same out of him as I do from every other player on this team. Do everything you possibly can to help the team. Always do your best.

It's silly and childish logic, perhaps, but the guy is a part of something that brings me an incredible amount of happiness and pride. I respect the hell out of everybody on this team and even though everyone gets mad at certain players from time to time, myself included, I hate seeing threads like some of the ones on the front page right now.

So, yeah, thank you John Hall for trying your best. Nail it next time.

I agree with you in part. I'm sure Hall is trying his best. The problem is at this point, his best is not good enough. He is damaged goods. The Skins need to at least look for a better option. In this league, it's performance that counts (and not something like being a core "Redskins guy"). A few losses means the difference from being a playoff team (or home field) or not.

Wow, way to miss the point of a great post.

Great post IK. I totally agree. The random vilification of players kills me. Sure, the player in question messed up, but so did dozens of other players and coaches, dozens of times during the course of the game, but of course we have to pinpoint the blame on the most obvious candidate to justify the loss.

This is a good thread that I hope doesn't get lost amid the more popular negative threads. It just reminds me of the thing I was telling myself throughout the entire car ride home. There's still 15 more games in the season. We'll be ok.

A win against Dallass on Sunday night will do a lot to wipe the pain away from this loss. I'm holding my head up for now, one loss is not the end of the world. It sucks that it was the home opener but hey, we started out 3-0 last year and then proceeded to go 2-6, then finished at 5-0. This is a long season and we have a good team. I'm not at all ready to push the panic button after the first game.

THere's no way the game should be placed on Hall's shoulders, and I'm not ready to run him out of town just yet, but I think the frustration stems from the fact that he obviously has not been what he was when he joined us for awhile now. As has been said, he kicks with little confidence, he seems very fragile these days and he simply seems like a guy who's lost "it."

Kickers are weird, though. Perhaps he'll bounce back. But I have to admit I'm truly worried about his performance, because poor kicking is going to cost us games this year. It's got to improve, just like every other area of this team.

Yep, all good points. And Spurrier started 3-1 in 2003 and ended up 5-11.

There were a lot of things to be hopeful about with this game, but what worries me the most are the injuries in the secondary.

I think next week is going to be a momumental task. I think we've only beaten Dallass back to back at home one time, in 1983 and 1984. And just winning there at all has been pretty damn hard the last 10 years.

This team just has to pull out every trick in the book to get this victory. Starting 0-2 is not an option. This could very well be the biggest Dallass week we've had since...well...the last one. Hopefully it'll end the same way.

It's obviously one game, and I'm still convinced we are going to be a playoff team, and have all the pieces in place to be a very good one, but I really don't feel the need to thank anybody just because they tried hard. That is the absolute minimum IMO.

Go beat Dallas.

Let's Look At the Positives

1) The offense is not as bad as we all thought during preseason...I for one didn't buy the 2% crap they were slinging....Today we see I was a bit wrong...they did move the ball.

2) It's only the first game.....Looking at the big picture we have 15 more games and 1 game is not going to end the season.

3) Portis will only get better (health wise)/.Springs will be back soon enough

4) We did see Betts do a few good things running the rock...Always good to have a 1 - 2 punch in your running game

5) Santana Moss is a stud...even after the nasty shot he took, he came back and made a clutch catch...NO FEAR!!! Similar thing happen to Coles a few years back...what did he do?..punk out.

6) Greg Williams...yeah the defense blew it...but that doesn't sit well with Williams .....we ALL know that...so look for the "D" to get it together, because GW will put his foot in a few backsides I'm sure. And what better way to get on track than beating the Cowboys in Dallas.

7) At least we are not the Raiders...LOL

The Flip Side

1) We have to play in Dallas
2) They will be out for revenge

So we have a few more things going for us...so usually I'd be upset....but I have a good feeling...this game is making me look forward to my Indy trip. Last thing we are a team...so no one should blame John Hall...yeah he missed a kick, but still we were in the Red Zone Twice and got only field goals....beyond that Brad Johnson rarely got touched, no pass rush, I could have passed the ball with that kinda time. I watched on TV.. and the Fans were great....so you guys get ready for our next home game and let the Redskins come back from their Texas trip with two wins....HAIL!!!
