View Full Version : The O-Line is weak...

All that talk about learing to play with one another is an excuse, in my opinion. Last night, move of the line got consistently beat in one-on-one matchups.
I hope it gets better because I think Ramsey can do damage if given time.

I agree...
The O-line has not lived up to their billing yet...
I also noticed that our blocking backs were not doing their jobs consistantly. (Royal, Johnson..etc)

New England blitzed a bit yesterday and it scares me we don't pick it up.

the o line will be one of the positions we can rely on come season time. This is just the preseason.

I hope you're right cause I'm a little skeptical right now.

Words getting out right now that if you blitze the Redskins, they fall apart. Our backs don't know how to react to a blitzing team.
Look for more teams to do it too. So far we have played 2 teams that blitze a lot in the schemes. And with the Ravens coming to DC next week, it could be another ugly situation for the Skins. May be a good time to take Ramsey out early of the game.

Thats what i see ...I see a O-line that is getting blitzed left and right , and also trying to get on the same page with the blocking shemes with the rest of the O-line ....Remember last year , the D-line had sopposedly upgraded from the year before , but all the players had to play first ...we sucked it up for the first half of the season , and then started shutting teams down , and getting to the QB....we just have to keep playing through it , and hopefully the o-line will click 2 or 3 games into the season ....
and also ...this is pre-season ..last year , our O-line played good in the pre-season , and then sucked it up all year when it counted ....the real test comes Sept 4th ...that is when we will have a honest opinion on the Skins as a TEAM ...

The preseason and gelling excuses are nice and all, but the fact is that we're getting beat way too much out there. Yes, they do need playing time together, but there are way too many opposing jerseys in the backfield during these games to blame it simply on that.

The guy that is supposed to make the blocking assignment calls is the Center. Our starter is hurt in this department. He is much more experienced at playing Center than Friedman and Brown are. This might help explain why some of their blitzes worked so well.
One of the other concerns I have is Jansen. He is just flat out not looking good between getting beaten by speed rushers and the penalties. I hope he gets back to his former self, and SOON.
And our backs must improve their blocking as well.

Rat Boy does have a point about the center, thank God.

Well, old #48 didn't have a problem picking up the blitz, but don't get me started....:banghead:

Oh, and I gorgot to mention in my previous post that we are simply NOT game planning for blitz heavy teams like the Patsies and Eagles.
I think they have work to do, but it is not a lost cause.

I'll tell you one thing Spurrier would be willing use against them....
Screen pass, screen pass like there's no tomorrow. Let them blitz all day, then dink-and-dunk it to Canidate on the outside. He'll already be past seven guys. Hell, use that wide receiver screen that seemed to work so well last year. Coles or Jacobs with Gardner blocking.

Good point JDS and it's Ramsey who has to get them to that play while at the line.

I also noticed that teams show him a blitz and when he audibles, they then drop into a cover two defense.

Yeah, I saw that at least a dozen times. He panic-audibles every time he sees more than four guys ready to rush, then they'll drop back into something completely different.

Spurrier's holding back somewhat, that's pretty obvious when we run the ball ten times in a row. There's no chance of that happening in the regular season. At the same time, you're very right, Bara, if we keep making mental mistakes with this simplified playbook, what's gonna happen when we really open it up?

Why Do some of you people base everything off of preseason. The O-Line will be one of the best in the leauge. They just need to find the chemistry. Just Give Them time. And did you notice that samuels only played like 2 or 3 drvies yesterday and plus we had WILBERT BROWN starting.... Think About it.:D:cool:

Yes, the SKINS are getting alot of blitzing this preseason but I'd do the same thing if I were the opposing coach. The O-line is only four weeks old and it's very easy to get successful blitzes. BUT it's PRESEASON and this is where Patrick going to learn. This kid is smart and I can see improvement in him every week. ...... The other thing, if you look at the rushing yardage of Saturday's game, I believe we out gained NE there.
Start complaining when the regular season come - DAMN I HATE PRESEASON!!!!!!!!!!!!!
BOTTOMLINE: The O-line is going to be a solid unit this year!!

Make blitzing teams pay. i really like the idea of the screen passes.

The Skins aren't a savvy, veteran ballclub that can just turn it on when the real season starts. They should be starting to click on offense and not making so many mistakes up front. Its all about confidence and competence. A professional performance is very necessary vs. the Ravens. The starters won't play much at all in the last game, thus the 3rd game is always important for young clubs like us. If the same garbage is spewed out in the Ravens game, I don't look for a magical, disciplined team to arrive on Sept 4. They need to pick it up and quick IMO.

I didn't think the O-line looked as bad, as some may seem to think.... Did they looked like world-beaters? No. But, they sure as hell didn't look like total pansies, either.... With the exception of the first drive and last drive before the half, the 'Skins moved the ball at will in the first half.... Ramsey was getting occasional heat on him, but what do you expect when the Pats are blitzing on majority, every play--in preseason.... I thought the line played fairly decent for the most part..... As, we all mentioned last week--"we're looking for improvement." And, that is what we got on Saturday.... Hopefully, the 'Skins will continue to show improvement this Saturday.... Let's wait and see.

When you com[pare the offense barrage of last pre-season tot he subdued approach this year, I honestly think SS is holding much of the offense and defense plays back. I think he knows he overplayed the card last year, and this time he is holding the cards tighter to him.
