The Redskins were poised to obtain Lional Dalton in a trade with the Denver Broncos in the coming days for a conditional draft choice, sources said. They apparently would like to get a front-line tackle from among Grady Jackson of New Orleans and the Chicago Bears' Keith Traylor and Ted Washington -- the sort of trade that could cost them one of their tailbacks, Ladell Betts or Kenny Watson, as well as a draft pick. But the Saints told the Redskins that they would rather trade them one of Jackson's backups, Kenny Smith, for a draft selection. Dan Wilkinson was removed from the list of possibilities when he agreed to sign with the Detroit Lions.
I think I could deal with Ted Washington and Lional Dalton as our starting DT's, though, I hate giving up one of our RB's.

I would hate to see Watson go at this juncture. I hope the FO is noticing his hard work on the field and not looking more at the round that Betts was drafted in.

Isn't Keith Traylor the better of the two bears DT's?Because if we have to give a draft pick and betts or watson then we better get the best guy available.

I hope it's not Watson either. The Saints want to trade us a backup. Bah.

Honestly, I'm beginning to lean towards trading Betts over Watson at this point. Betts just can't expect to sit out this long and remain as valuable to the team.
No backup from NO! We've got those already, get us a starter dammit!

Betts seemed like a more powerful back and explosive back than Watson last, so I really prefer Betts. I haven't had the opportunity to watch Watson this summer, but trading a second round pick who played GOOD last year for a backup DT is a bit much.
Hopefully they make these moves soon, we need to get these guys playing together.

If we want to trade with the Bears, they better hurry up. Word is that the Bears are one of the teams interested in Staley. Unless we could just trade a draft pick for Washington or Traylor.
I still think if we go with NOs, we'll land Grady Jackson. Why bother with another backup?
I want Dalton and Washington or Traylor or Jackson. 2 or those 4 will suit me fine...

i think the bears might try to trade whatever pick we give them to get staley. and i dont care when betts was drafted, watson has been the most impressive and betts hasnt done crap so far. we need a DT and i dont care who we give up. i'd rather get grady jackson cause i think he's younger and i dont want a guy to be here for a year like gardener.

Yep, well said RedskinRyan. Why should it matter where Betts was drafted? If Watson is the better RB, why trade him just because he wasn't drafted in the 2nd round? Heck, the guy wasn't drafted at all but still he's having a better preseason than the guy that was drafted......Lets not penalize the guy for not being drafted. I want to keep the best one and if that Watson, so be it.

I read the POST article and then the TIMES - getting contradicting information. TIMES article says they are happy w/ the play after Noble was injured, but did talk a little about Dalton.

benjamce, isn't funny how two newspapers in the same city have such different outlooks on a team?
The Times, I've heard, really has a dislike for Snyder. I'm not sure why but it does appear they try to put a negative spin on things dealing with the Redskins. The Post on the other hand tries to have a positive spin.
I hardly ever read the Times anymore. Seems that the Post is normally right on things...more accurate that is...

based on watching the game against the Pats I'd lean towards trading any one of this bunch of starters/former starters:
Trung Candidate
Bryan Johnson
Bruce Smith
Molden/Bauman (one or the other)
McCants
Tre Johnson
Ohalete (this one would hurt)
Betts (this one would hurt too)
before trading Watson ... he was the only thing that resembled a between the tackles RB

Our need for a solid Tackle or two is almost to desperate status. That makes trading Betts so much easier. He is good enough to warrant a decent return... yet some can see him as expendable in this circumstance.

Interesting list Broken,
I wouldn't trade Bauman or Ohalete. The rest I wouldn't mind. I don't believe Bruce Smith is tradeable because he's only playing one more season.

Easy now, easy now. It looks like Y'all are ready to abandon ship if we don't get a DT or two. Well, damn near anyone we would get is not a significant improvement over what we have. Noble was contracted, not because he was a collapse the pocket, Daryl Gardener type, but because he was a lunch pail, steady player with no injury history. His job was to be a block eater. That's what all the DTs on our squad can do. That's what all the names mentioned here, as replacements would do. What the line lacks is a DT that will collapse the pocket. If the club has found one of those, than shoot for the moon. Otherwise, picking up DTs who's cost is reasonable should be the only way to go. We don't need to take on some other team's salary cap headache or trade away assets in a panic mode. That's what the weak do, that's what a bureaucracy does. If we're wanting to be a good team, it's not what we should do.
I trust we won't trade away any of our running backs. If we do, more than likely it will be to a team like New England. They are out of our conference, they have 5 extra draft picks next year, and need a RB. Then we'll use the draft pick(s) to secure DT talent.
