View Full Version : This Sunday's exhibition game will be a litmus test for both teams.

I have had the pleasure of being able to view the Redskins pre-season games. I also see the nightly training camp reports on Comcast Sports Net. I have in short, noticed that the Redskins seem to be in a little dissaray. As an outsider looking in it appears that the Redskins are not jelling offensively or defensively.
The Ravens defense is firing on all cylinders and has "deep depth". They'll challenge the 'skins offense for 60 minutes no matter what #team is on the field. Kelly Gregg is playing well above his talent. The linebacking crew is incredible. Corey Fuller appears to be a weakness at corner, and I look for Ramsey and the 'Skins first team O to try to take advantage of him.
NATE BOLLING is a name that you'll remember after Saturday night.
The Ravens are going to start Kyle Boller at QB to see what he can do against the Redskins D. I would really be surprised to see him do anything extraordinary. He missed a simple read last week and it resulted in an interception. He has picked The Bills and Falcons 2nd-3rd-4th team defenses to bits. It will be interesting for me to see if Chris Redman can do the same in D.C. as the situations will be reversed.
I would expect to see Jamal Lewis for 3-4 series of downs this week.
ONE MORE THING. The Raven-Redskins should play EVERY YEAR!
Overall I see the Ravens coming out on top... as if it matters.
Your thoughts?
BTW- I noticed that some of you posted at Redskins HQ... what happened to that board? They're probably looking for their village idiot.:D

Your village idiot status has been restored, mainly because you seem to be the only one here that doesn't know that the game is being played Saturday. We aim to please at hR!!
I personally was wondering how long it would take you to show your face here. I knew you wouldn't let us down.

Game is Saturday @ 8:00 PM at FedX. (in case you were planning on attending.)
Interesting QB battle going on in Baltimore which I feel is the weakest part of the Ravens and very well what keeps them from doing anything this year (IMO). Defense is a monster. .........
WARNING: Do not put too much stock in preseson. Last year at this point I think most of us (Skin's Fans) were thinking "PlayOffs".

Guys, you should have let him go ahead and show up to FedEx on Sunday......Kinda like the commercial with Michael Waltrip showing up to the wrong race track.....;)

You are right but none of us will admit it.

Heck, I'll admit to it. I thought we were a ligitimate playoff contender....and we almost were. If we could have won a couple of the close games that we lost, we would have been.
I know, I know. Those are pretty big IFS. But, it's true.

Freudean slip. ...besides I said Saturday night in the post.
There's no QB controversy in Baltimore. It's made up. Media garbage. The Ravens have two inexperienced QB's. One they just gave the bank to, and another who I think is a free agent after the 2003 season. If Chris Redman shows that he can maintain a mistake free, ball control offense, I think he'll start the season. Billick knows how many rookie QBs have lead their teams to the Super Bowl. The odds are serverely against it.
Boller only really had one good season in college. I don't even remember hearing of him prior to the end of last College Football season. He seems eager and energetic. But he's only played against guys who might not be in the NFL next week. I think they might want to get him into the Redskins D to see how he performs against some real competition.
My guess is Redman starts the season... Boller finishes it. God help us if Anthony Wright comes into the picture.
I'm not ready to call the Ravens a Play-Off contender, but I can tell you that they are a very good football team.
...and they are coming to "The John" SATURDAY night @ 8:00.
Your thought on SATURDAY's match-up?

Don't know what to think really about the preseason game, but reluctantly, i think the Ravens will have the best record in the AFC. Here's to hoping i'm wrong.

I agree with you (to a point) RavenRick. The Ravens ARE clicking on all cylinders......no doubt about it. I am a Baltimore resident (and die-hard Redskins fan). As such, I see a lot of the Ravens. Have met several players, seen many games live (I can get FREE tickets.....would NEVER PAY to see the Ravens), and admittedly, they look good. The Defense is awesome (I hate to admit it). I think that Adalius Thomas is one of the MOST UNDERATED players in the game. Ray Lewis is playing inspired (as usual) and Kelly Gregg has surprised me. Peter Boulware looks even FASTER. I had posted earlier (on another thread) that I would be (pleasantly) surprised if our Offense is successful. We still need to work out some bugs, but I think we will be "clicking on all cylinders" by the 4th or 5th game of the regular season. I do disagree with you on Boller, however. If I'm not mistaken, he has hit LESS THAN 50% of his passes. I wouldn't say that he is tearing any team apart. It's only preseason, so this game doesn't mean much to me, but my feeling (at this time) is that the Ravens should be better (at least, at this point in time) and should win. I hope the Redskins prove me wrong, and SPANK THEM!!!

ahhhh.....the pre-season game that i have been waiting for. the only preseason game i want the skins to win is this one! i cant wait to see this one. i just hope those dirty birds dont hurt any of my redskins, or all hell is gonna break lose!! this will be a good test for the redskins offense and if the line can protect ramsey (big IF thus far) he will be able to pick on the raisins' secondary. i dont think that either redman or boller is the answer in b-more this year. redman just doesnt seem to be a playoff qb to me and boller is a one year wonder rookie. the running game is good, but the o line isnt all that besides ogden. i noticed last season that when the ravens couldnt run the ball, they couldnt win because they had no passing attack. they added new receivers but they are still suspect IMO. i cant wait till saturday, preseason or not.

I can't possibly see Baltimore with the AFC's best record like Truant can, but they are a scary team. That defense frightens the bejeezus out of me.
Honestly... I expect the Ravens to win this one. The Redskins, at least according to the last two games, are taking steps towards cohesion. They'll be a bit more jelled this Saturday, but not enough to defeat a team that seems to be clicking practically everywhere. If we played Baltimore in the regular season though, it could very well be a different story.
Anyway, I look forward to a close game that I could, and hopefully will, be wrong about. If I see more team unity, I'll be happy. If that nets us a win, I'll be happier.

I love football. I can't say that I really have that deep resentment for the Redskins that the old Baltimoreans are supposed to have. I think it's really cool that because of Comcast I can watch not only the weekly national games but I also get to catch the Redskins pre-season games on UPN. I guess you could say I follow the Redskins to a point, it's almost unavoidable.
As an outside observer its easier to be critical. I hold Mr. Dan in the same unfavorable light that I hold Mr. Pete with the Orioles. In my opinion most of the elements that would've put the Redskins in serious contention (over the top you might say) are elsewhere. How bad could the Redskin's use BIG DADDY this week? Stephen Davis looks incredible to me. How about the 'Skins depth at 'O' line? Who's accountable for that? There's more to a football team than it's 22 O and D starters.
I equate Spurrier to the "Nutty Professor". I look forward to every time I see him speak. I do a GREAT imitation too. I love to see this guy razzled. I thought that last years QB shuffle was insane.
I think that the way the Redskins will start the season will determine their course as a team. If they start 0-3, 0-4, I don't see them having the fortitude to turn it around. It's like...when I think about the Redskin's I really see a bunch of people just collecting their checks.
Last year I expected the Ravens to stink. I thought 4-12, 5-11 might be their record at the end of the year. Good coaching (including constent mentoring from Ray Lewis) got the team to 7-9. I thought that they over achieved.
The Ravens first game is against the Steelers. The Steelers have been having O line woes, and their secondary is very suspect. The Ravens should be running into them at a good time. I look for this first game to tell a lot about the Ravens. The Ravens need to exploit other teams weaknesses to make up for some gaps in talent.
It doesn't matter who wins Saturday. I wish that the folks that make the schedule would realize that a yearly Baltimore-Washington game would be GREAT!
