OK people, without turning this into a "bash T.O." thread, what do you feel is the real story?
Did he attempt suicide?
Was it a misunderstanding and it went down exactly as he said it did?
Is T.O. telling the truth but Etherdege is covering up the fact that SHE thought it was a suicide attempt at the time?
Was it a publicity stunt?
Was it completely blown out of proportion by the media?

After digesting this story for 48 hours I have come to the conclusion that T.O. DID NOT attempt suicide. I believe he overdosed, but not intentionally.
I do believe that his publicist is covering for herself. I think she saw T.O. and did the right thing by calling for help, but is now covering up the fact that she herself believed it was a suicide attempt. There are to many inconsistancies in her story and to be honest, she is a bad liar. She should have come out and said: "I believed he was trying to commit suicide at the time but looking back now and having all the facts I can see that this was simply an accident. I reacted the way I did because I believed it was in T.O.'s best interest at the time." If she had I would have a lot more respect for her and this entire story would have been put to rest.

I believe the same thing you do. Accidental overdose, not an allergic reaction or attempted suicide. I also don't think this was a publicity stunt. This kind of publicity did nothing to help TO's career and very well could end up getting him released after this season with no one willing to sign him to anything close to the deal Dallas gave him.
It seems that this "publicist" has no other clients, works for no firm and possibly lives with TO. Hmmm...
Edit- There is no choice in this poll that fits my belief, since I think TO is being dishonest about the allergic reaction.

That's a good point, a had considered that to be a part of T.O. telling the truth that it was not a suicide attempt but there should be a seperate choice for "Not an attempted suicide, but not an allergic reaction (aka overdose)". From what I gathered from T.O.'s statements were that he "mixed up" his pills and took too many of his pain pills by accident. I thought the "allergic reaction" statements were originally made by his publicist...

You're right, there is no way this can help his career. I don't believe in the slightest that it was a publicity stunt but I've heard that opinion so I felt obligated to include it as a choice.

my belief is somewhere in the middle.......he had an accidental overdose and in this incoherant state attempted suicide. not something he would do if still under his own power, but a by-product of the overdose.

I think he has a drug problem and this was the spin. A long term pharm addiction would explain his moodiness and his ability to "play through pain".

I believe his publicist is a whack job. She is also lacking in english skills for a publicist.
-Chewing gum when addressing the media
- "a man of TO's statue" ????
- "TO has 25 million reasons to be alive"
I really don't know what came about, as TO is one of the most bizarre individuals ever, but I don't understand why TO thinks everything is a joke. He always has that same smirk on his face no matter how serious the situation. Makes it very hard for me to believe anything he says.

I'm with Akh on this one. I believe the man has a problem and this is nothing more then a cover up. What is truly said is that T.O probably thinks these people actually care about him. The Etheridge lady is a total joke, and she should try laying off whatever she was on before attempting to make uo some BS on national TV again.
On a side note.........she did make it sound as if she was living at the house with him. The plot thickens!!

I think the guy is a classic definition of a megalomaniac. I don't put it past him to manufacture this whole thing just to get another press conference out of it all.

TO fired his trainer today, who told people that TO was left by his finacee and couldn't be with his son on his bday. That makes this very interesting. Im with PFT: there's something wrong there and the press conference was just to make sure the Boys couldn't cut him or pup list him and get their money back.

none of the above..
accidental stupidity.. perhaps abetted by a beer or 2...

I narrowed it down to 2.
It was either
1) Suicide attempt, covered up.
or
2) Publicity stunt
If it was number 1, I feel bad for T.O. If it was number 2, I really don't care about what happens to the man in the future.

I actually think it is an actual suicide attempt. And I am not just saying it because I hate TO and the Cowboys. I was on the fence until today I heard that TOs trainer reported to the Dallas Morning News that TO had a situation with his 7 year old son who he is not allowed to see and his fiance dumped him on the same day as the pills incident. I still say TO is damaged goods and I really think he tried to off himself.

the AP published the transcript of the call and the publicist was crying as she made the call.. you do not get that emotional unless you feel something bad is going on.. i think he was probably drunk and then took some of the pills and became incoherent.. whether his life was ever at risk, i am not sure anyone will know.. but it sure does not sound at all like he simply took a pain pill and then some kind of vitamin supplement and lapsed into La-La land... that i won't ever believe because i cannot think of ANY vitamin supplement that works that way chemically.. pain pills ? sure.. but there was another substance involved that increased the depressive potential of the pain pills. maybe he is on some kind of anti depressant ? (like what killed A-N Smith's son ??) that would certainly fit far better..
unless the reveal the results of the tox screen they certainly must have done, we are not likely to know for certain.. but it wasn't vitamins, that i can tell you..

Ethredge started all of this, and now she is trying to put on another face for the media. The worst part is that she called 911 and did all this crying. Then she calls out the cops on not doing their job right. She called the police, and they just put out what was said.

I think TO called his "publicist," who is probably his gofer, and told her that his hand really hurt and the oxy wasn't doin' it for him. She secured alternative pain killers or other drugs for him illegally, which completely knocked him out. She freaked, fabricated the OD story, and hid most of the legitimate oxy meds to support her claim. That's why they seemed so evasive or odd at the press conference.
My doc gave me hydrocodone (oxy) for a broken hand in 2001. Didn't do anything for me, even with beer consumption. I honestly don't think it works with some people and can't understand its appeal. I'm just glad that TO put the Eagles behind him and isn't a distraction for the Cowgirls. ;)

respectfully... hydrocodone is vicodin or related products...oxycodone is different.. goes by percocet, oxycontin etc.... different people react very differently, as you said.. none of them should be mixed with alcohol because alcohol can potentiate the depressive effects..

Well, first off, he didn't have to call her. She was at his home, when he arrived, according to her. I don't know what happened in the following hours, other than TO took some pills. At some point, she felt the need to call 911 and we all know the rest of the story, at least until TO arrived at the hospital. At that point, the only thing that was reported was his stomach was being pumped for an allergic reaction, which is total BS, because that is not the procedure in that sort of situation. So, throw out the allergy nonsense and you have an OD situation. Was it intentional, I don't think so anymore. It was just carelessness and I wouldn't be surprised if TO had a drug problem. How do you take too many Vicodin's in any other case?
I prefer percoset to vicodin myself. They both work for me but vicoden makes me dizzy and all I can do is sleep. The only time neither worked for me was after my wisdom teeth were removed and I suffered a dry socket. Just breathing brought in an amount of pain that is indescribable, forget about drinking or eating. That was the first time I was prescribed vicodin and truthfully, it didn't do much. It was the disgusting, medicated gauze that was stuffed into the hole that actually relieved the pain.
Anyhow, sorry for my little horror story but my point is, I don't believe for a second that TO had so much pain in his hand that he needed a narcotic. And I have never seen a prescription of 40 vicodin. 20, at most with a refill. TO has a drug problem, as does his idiot "publicist."

You're right, Shall. Sorry for the glaring error, everyone. I got mixed up due to a recent medical report that docs were prescribing more methadone (very dangerous drug!) because DEA was auditing them for vicodin and oxy 'scripts and having them explain multiple 'scripts to chronically ill patients due to the widespread abuse.

I don't think it is fair for any of us to accuse him as doing this for publicity. I hate the man as a man and I don't think he is that good of a football player, but there are too things that happened in my mind. He would not have gone to the hospital and had doctors treat him if he did not overdose. That being said, if it was an accident, then it was an accidental overdose. If he did it on purpose, than it was an attemted suicide. I don't think that this could possibly be made out into a potential publicity stunt. That is not fair to Terrell or to anyone in this situation. Either way I feel bad for him because neither of those things are something that anyone should have to go through or we should wish on anyone. I feel bad for Terrell and I hope that this gets straightened out and if he needs professional help that he get it.
