I just heard that. It's about $190K in game checks. Plus, the league may fine him more.

He should have been suspended for the year. 5 games is nothing. And I hope the Titans fine him as well.

supposedly Fischer has already guaranteed Parcells that he'll punish him on top of the league penalty, so he may still be done for the season.

I'd just cut him to make the point. Haynesworth isn't a good player and wouldn't be missed. Their season is lost anyways.

What point would be made exactly when Al Davis picked him up 2 days later off of waivers? ;)

I have no doubt that Fischer will want to. Where the Union stands on this will be interesting. I would bet that all coaches are limited in what they can do.

That said, I wonder if any civil suit will occur or even if criminal action will result. PFT has had an interesting take on the whole thing, saying, basically, that he should be "fired" from the league. If you or I or anybody we know did such a thing at our place of employment, that would be lights out.

How exactly do athletes come off easy in our judicial system? KC player has two DUIs in six months -- how does he even get on the field?

A mystery, I tellya...

I just heard the live interview with Fischer on the radio. He said the penalty was appropriate and did not plan to add to it. When he made his comments previously, it was without knowing what the league would do.

5 games seems right to me. I was thinking 4-6.

He should also be arrested for assult, IMO.

I think Fisher should make a league-wide statment and release the guy. I have no idea how he can be a positive contributor to this team.

Not only did he bloddy his face after two stomps, but he argued the call with the ref and his coach. If I were Fisher, I would have tossed him from the sidelines myself.

Nashville PD has told the Cowboys they're already investigating the potential for criminal charges, according to ESPN at least.

5 games is the largest in league history for an on-the-field issue. I think for what he did they should've made it the year and made a statement.

he was very lucky.. i agree it is not enough.. but i think his contrition and immediate accpetance of responsibility goes a long way to the punishment meted out...

again, his contrition is what made it possible to punish him only to that extent

found it on youtube if anybody wants to see what happened exactly. Looks more like he kicked off his helmet or something and then stomped on the side of his head with his cleats. That's lowdown dirty stuff there.

oh and its not graphic or anything, probably safe for work unless you count the idiots that always post on youtube.

Thanks for the video link. Announcer makes a good point about the dangerous grass cleats the players are wearing. As our parents once said, "Hey! You can take an eye out for doing that!"

The thing is, I wonder what the other Titans are saying about this guy...they must be pretty upset, too.

i think the it should have been the rest of the season.... you cant just step on someone's head with clets..... if that were to happen in the real worlg he would be in jail

I agree. Imagine how fired up we'd be if he did that to a Redskin. Honestly it should at least be a year, and he should still have to apply to be reinstated.

He should be kicked out of the league. I agree with what an earlier poster said about if one of us pulled a similar type stunt at their work place. You would be fired in a milli-second, arrested and probably sued.

I beleive he is honestly sorry but I still think he should be banned for the rest of the year with no pay.

Gene Upshaw said that he'll take an unpopular position by appealing this suspension.

Come back to me when someone who is over 300 lbs stomps twice on your face. The guy belongs in prison not sitting on a bench for five games.

I don't get that? To me the players union should also support the player who was attacked.

Technically, I think the union's foremost job is to represent any player who feels he is being or has been wronged against management.

Its a fair penalty concidering he could be jailed for assault, its just the NFL's punishment when if the guy wants to press charges he could go into the can. If the guy doesn't press charges you can only wonder what the guy said to Haynesworth.

According to the Washington Posts AP article: (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/10/02/AR2006100200807.html)
A spokeswoman for the Davidson County district attorney general's office said that the office would consider possible charges against Haynesworth for the incident if Gurode wanted to file a complaint. "We're aware of the situation," the spokeswoman, Susan Niland, said by telephone. "If anything along those lines would come to pass, we would look at it. Independent of a victim's complaint, we would not pursue it independently."
Gurode is apparently waiting to hear from Haynesworth and waiting to see what his medical outcome is going to be for the treatment of 30 stitches to his face and head. He spent Monday consulting a plastic surgeon according to ESPN. (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2610577)

I was listening to ESPN radio and a caller brought up an interesting point that maybe he should have been tested for sterroids after the game. Could have been a roid rage incident missed. The way he blew up so hard and after the game was so apologetic.

The thing that bothered me the most was when he went back out on the field after the call had been made blowing up at the refs and coach. I don't really buy the apology myself.

yeah, he definitely didn't look like he had any doubt on his mind about the things he was doing while he was stomping away and Gurode's head. This still bugs me. Guys a bust and more importantly a horrible human being.
