This is a huge blow to their run defense, as witnessed by their early season results against the run. Wonder what it could be? NFL network said it wasn't life threatening.

this will hurt Freeney a lot...with no one else on that line, they'll be able to have the entire left side pay more attention Dwight to make sure he doesn't get to the QB.

Sounds vaguely like Mono. Viral meningitis doesn't last that long and bacterial meningitis is life threatening. An antibiotic resistant Staph a. infection ala Brandon Noble could be it as well, although they have been known to be life-threatening is odd cases as well (flesh-eating bacteria).

I am thinking Mono could be a good call b/c it was reported on NFL network that this was a very difficult decision for the Colts to make. That leads me to believe that he could have returned at some point this season, but it was probably too costly to stash him on the roster with the time he was expected to be out.
This should help us control the ball and eat some clock when we play them I hope.

i would say mono, too, but he wouldn't check into the Mayo clinic for a battery of tests if that's what it was. with mono, you run one test, if that's it, you go home 5 minutes later and sit on the couch for a couple months.

Thanks, I was about to post it!!! Its buzzzing all around here now! man I wish some more of you guys could come to the game, but be as it may, the few that will be here should see a dandy. I think Simon's abscence will only force the Colts to pursue a short passing, ball control game on purpose to keep their defense rested, which is their key. Look for us to do the same against the Colts.

Simon however was missed in the last two games, as the Colts struggled to get opposing offenses off the field. Very interesting.

Actually, without Simon I expect to run early and often against that undersized DL. ;)

i think they are going to totally forget about defense and simply try to outscore people

yep and its unfortunate that its the type of illness that literally keeps the player out of the game! I would like to know about it, but his privacy is his right. I hope the best for him and pray for his health. I always loved this guy's motor and commitment. Just too much hard luck on him.

Well we do have to play the game, sooooo :)

A short passing game, but score each time would be a better choice than for them to do a shootout, because that would mean their D, is back on the field if its a quick score. Their D isn't likely to handle it that well. A big benefit that is likely, is they will have Vinateri instead of Gramatica to kick.

it won't be easy. but the way to go at them is simply to run at them until their tongues hang out..

It's being reported that the Colts won't pay him the rest of his salary while he's out.

I'm thinking his "illness" is related to steroid or HGH use and/or abuse. How the heck else could the Colts get away with not paying him without getting sued in a Tyrone Biggums heartbeat?

Because they are the Irsay's and they are the Colts. They've been known to be tight with the purse strings.

That is besides the point, you can't not pay someone who developed an illness, unless the illness was caused by something that was stipulated in the contract as voidable.

All I'm saying is that when I read this,I wasn't surprised.
Just because they said that they weren't going to pay him, doesn't mean that they won't have to.

Yeah but Axe, they have lawyers advising them on this. It would cost them more to go to court just to end up paying him anyway. They have to have a legit reason and by reading this statement:
"He said it would not be appropriate for them to discuss any of that, that that's Corey's business and that they would not be talking about that," Cook said.
The Colts earlier cited federal privacy laws for not disclosing the nature of the illness.
I can only think that they are ready to go to court.

Again, I am thinking steroids. What are your thoughts on that?

I'm not disagreeing with you,I just have a bad impression of a family that leaves town in the middle of the night.

As for steroids,I don't know.Maybe he caught something from somewhere else.

And I agree with you. I used to root for the Colts and as a kid, went to more of their games than Skins games, because their tickets were easier to get. I rooted for both but when they left I became a true Skins fan.

By the same token but reversed, I hate the Ravens because they stole Cleveland's team. Art Modell took a $50 million check and bolted. The great fans in Cleveland loved their team but hated Modell and refused to fund anything that would help out his bank account. In retrospect, the NFL should have stepped in and forced Modell to sell the team to a Cleveland buyer, instead of allowing the move and creating an expansion team, while Modell sold his team anyway.
Anyway, sorry to go off topic. I have a lot of family in Cleveland and I know how good of fans they are and how bad they got shafted. Football was born there and they take it real seriously.

Yeah,Cleveland got the shaft too.
I'm impressed that the new team was left with the name, the colors, and the records.
No horseshoes hangin' around Baltimore.

And I'm happy for them that they get to use the name, colors and records. That's the way it should be.

I certainly hate to try to make something positive out of a situation that is clearly very serious, but this has to be huge for us when we play them in three weeks. We will be able to run the ball all day on them. I hope that Simon is okay and plays next year.

It was stated on NBC affiliate's TV13 in Indianapolis, that Corey Simon has polyarthritis (multiple joint) and it isn't likely he can play, not sure if they meant ever or the rest of the year. For them to want the remaining pay, tells me, there's more to it.
