After the shocking amount of preseason penalties, I wonder...
How much do you think penalties factor into a game?
Are the Skins any worse then any other teams?

penalities are no-no's. They kill drives and ruin rhythm. It's crucial for teams to prevent penalities.

Good question AGG.
I don't if its just me or not but it seems like every little thing the Redskins do that even look like a penalty is called against us. But not the team we're playing. For instance in the Panthers game. Our first punt of the game two of our guys get blocked in the back. No penalty flag was thrown. Even the "Homers" on CBS said the Panthers got away with two illegal blocks. Then RB posts a picture of a Panthers OL with his hand up under one of the Redskins face mask. Nothing was called. And I don't know how many holding penalies I seen against the Panthers that went uncalled. Yet, what did we have? Like 4-6 holding penalties against us?
Sorry........
Highlander is right though. They kill drives and can change the play calling drastically.

Yep, I think they definitely kill a drive.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't we have two back to back penalties on a punt (or was it a kickoff) (I'm thinkin they were both on Flowers) that caused the "real" kick to be waaay short.
The first kick having been beautiful, but after 3 kicks...
I've been trying to find 2002 penalty stats but am having trouble

Redskins have had a history of killing themselves, with crappy ST blocking, poor tackling, and stupid penalties. The penalties that really seem to kill this team year in and year old are off sides and holding penalties. They have to be minimized. I would expect with the veteran additions we made to this team that more discipline would come along with it, yet i have not seen it.

Penalties can be the knife in the back of a drive. It's discouraging to see so many called on the Skins, again. One can only hope that it won't happen as often as the preseason goes on.

Penalties (and Turnovers IMO) are the football anti-Christ. IT is just so hard to overcome them and they kill rythym and consistency.

you are right AGG about theback to back penalties on a punt. i personally was quite upset as barker actually got a good boot on it and then ST put them down on like the 25 yard line only to be called back by the gunner going out of bounds on his own.then we got a false start on the very next play. when it was all said and done the Pats ended up starting on the 50 yard line.

We definately get the short end of the stick when it comes to the ref's but Spunky needs to make it uncomfortable for these guys on all these penalties-like practice after a game where the penalties cost you the game. Gibbs did it.

Penalties are the #2 drive killers - Turn overs are of course #1.
Do we have them called against us more than others - HELL YES!!! - But that taken from a Skin's Fan point of veiw - LOL - AND rarely are Skins Fans WRONG.
Serious - Penalties more time than not are a lack of displine. I like the idea SS had during trainning camp of fining the player for a penalty he made. Of course the fine amount were stupid ( $10). IF I were Coach, every penalty would cost a player $10,000 or more. With the money these guys make - no joke - and maybe then they start playing with more focus.

The penalties and the stupiud mistakes are what is driving me crazy with this preseason. I could care less about the score. They need to get back to playing sound football. Sloppy as hell for supposed proffesionals who get paid a ton of money.
