I just wanted to say howdy to everyone. I've been mired down with a lot of family stuff, and it has kept me from being able to relax and enjoy simple pleasures like hR.

My dad passed away on Sept. 29 from complications due to Alzheimer's. The last year has been the hardest of my life -- the pain of having to place him in a nursing home was exceeded only by the horrible days immediately preceding his passing. Watching someone you love be slowly taken away by this disease is excruciating. You're constantly grieving because the person you knew is gone, yet they're still there.

Pop spent 20+ years in the Air Force, serving as a reconnaissance pilot in WWII and Korea. Among his decorations were the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Achievement Award, the Bronze Star, and the Silver Star. Toward the end of his service, he did spooky stuff with the Pentagon, including the U2 project. He loved flying, and he loved serving his country.

My dad also taught me everything I know about football, including who to root for -- the Skins! My earliest memories are of sitting at his feet, watching the Redskins on TV, and asking him stupid questions like "What's a first down?" He never lost patience in explaining these things to me. (The Skins, however, were constantly trying his patience...!)

Anyhow, I've missed ol' hR. It's nice to be back.

Good to see ya Jackie!

Sorry about the loss of your father. I know the pain of losing a parent. My mother died in Nov of 2004 to breast cancer. It was a long, painful death. Which makes it even harder to deal with.

It's great to see you again Jacky. My condolences on the passing of your father. The last month must've been rough and for that we all feel for you. You always have your memories, however, and evidenced by the photo you posted, they are rich with things to be treasured. BTW, which one are you in the photo?

Nice to "meet" you, Jackie. I guarantee that, wherever your Dad is now, he is sharp as a tack, watching over you, and wearing burgundy and gold.

God Bless and Welcome Back.

Thanks, Lori! Yeah, it's good to be back. I didn't really know how distracted I had been until it was finally over.

Now if we could just get a win to go into the bye week...argh!
