"The Washington Post reported Tuesday morning that the Redskins' offer included a signing bonus of about $14.75 million, but sources told ESPN.com later in the day that the figure is significantly overstated.

Those sources said the signing bonus is only a little more than half of that amount and, in terms of total value, the deal does not come close to the seven-year, $50 million contract cornerback Ty Law of the New England Patriots received four years ago.

Reached at his office by ESPN.com on Tuesday afternoon, Bailey's agent Jack Reale declined to discuss specifics of the offer, emphasizing that he and Bailey preferred that the negotiations not be conducted in public or in the media.

Reale did tell ESPN.com that a extension agreement was not imminent"

I dont get why the Washington Post would print a blatant LIE.

But then again, why would ESPN print one?

Wierd stuff.

Makes you wonder who is telling the truth, the Post or ESPN?

What's that old saying, the truth is somewhere in between?

Probably they are confused with the several points to deliver the bonus which is often used by Danny

If they are lowballing Champ and in some way know that they don't want to sign him to a big contract but plan to paint him as the bad guy for not accepting their offer, I'll be fuming uncontrollably and will call for all of their heads!

I think the confusion was caused by the multiple payments of the signing bonus.

Don't beleive ESPN. The Washington Post may not have all the facts correct either but I'd say they are closer to the truth than ESPN.

I tend to believe the Post as well

Patrick, I agree with you totally about ESPN. They probably created the story themselves.
