hR: Doc, the Redskins have failed to generate a pass rush so far. It seems Carter has been ineffective and the blitz packages are not working. Have defense caught on to Gregg Williams defensive schemes or is it something else?

Doc: No doubt Carter has not played his best football. He had a great motor, he plays hard every play but his lack of size becomes a factor in the running game. Coach Williams schemes may be compromised by the lack of a true cover corner.

hR: Can you give us a clue of what is wrong with our offensive line? It seems week to week they are just a different bunch. Lack of consistency. This is suppose to be a good offensive line. What is going on?

Doc: Let's not forget our OL played it's best football two weeks ago against Jacksonville. Four of the five starter had off-season surgery, the preseason "pillow fight" of very few snaps? put this unit behind the eight ball, and the Vikings and cowboys front seven ran them off the field on third down. This is a could be a very good OL but it needs Portis on the field 85% of the time and they must find a way to expand their passing game.

hR: Doc, yesterday you alluded on radio to chaos on the sidelines with play calling. Some of our fans are interested in this. Some did not hear your show. It seems like Portis and Randle El follow coaches around closely, are the giving input, is Gibbs taking the input? Is Al Saunders in charge of offensive play calling or is Gibbs stepping in at times?

Doc: Al Saunders calls the plays. But in the course of a game coaches and players will give their input! Coach Gibbs knows the entire game plan inside out, I'm sure if he felt strongly enough about a certain play he could talk to Coach Saunders and get the play called. The real question is has Gibbs overruled a Saunders call? and at this point I would say no.

hR: Doc, give us your take on our two youngsters on the DLine, Kedric Golston and Anthony Montgomery. Can both of these guy or one of them seize the job from Joe Salave’a?

Doc: One of the bright spots about this season so far has been DRAFT CHOICES Kedric Golston, and Anthony Montgomery. This team needs to grow some of it's own talent through the NFL Draft and these two young bulls are very good players. Joe Salave'a has a great deal of respect for both guys and every team needs affordable your talent, (even the Skins).

Part II

hR: Doc, how do we work Brandon Lloyd into this offense? Is Lloyd not getting open is Brunell just fixiated on one receiver or is it something else?

Doc: Brandon Lloyd is going thru what every player that joins a new team has to overcome. This is not the Eagles pass offense! Lloyd best bet is for this running game to produce over 150 yards on the ground. Teams fear Washington's running game not it's pass offense. Until the Skins prove for more than one game that Brunell is willing to attract with the deep ball, teams will load up in the box and take their chances.

hR:Chris Cooley had a good week last week, one of the rare good performances. Do you think the Skins will be going back to Cooley often, like in 2005?

Doc: Brave heart Cooley had a big game against the Giants. He has the skills to wreak a defense in the short to medium zones, But like Lloyd and Moss his success is tied into the running game! If the skins were to ever open a game running the two min. drill or with 4 wide receivers. Things would probably open up more, So for we've seen different sets, motion, and a number of short passes. Only time will tell if this offense can beat a good team throwing the football?

hR: Finally, what do the Redskins players need to do to turn around the 2006 season? Where is the leadership?

Doc: The Skins still have enough time to become a playoff team. But they must improve on third down! Play the deep ball much better in the secondary, STOP THE RUN, and GET THE BALL TO MOSS as often as possible! As for the leadership we find out Sunday at FedEx.
