My son Michael got moved up from his HS JV soccer squad to the varsity squad. He is so excited because the varsity squad is 9-0. His first game he had an assist and got his name in the paper!
Side Note: In the "Let them play thread" I talked about how few kids we have in our school to field teams and how in smaller school's kids are often asked to move up to the higher levels earlier then they probably should. This is a good example. Our Varsity soccer team has only 13 kids on it (they play 11 at a time) and 8 of them are sophmores.
Now there are 9 sophmores, because Michael is a sophmore too!

UPDATE: Last night we played our last regular season game. Our boys ended up tying it after 2-10 mins of OT play. Our record is 10-0-2, the best record at BHS since 1932. We have earned a bye in the first round of the playoffs and we've been ranked #2 in the county behind an undefeated 4A school (we are 1A)

seriously though........at the high school level, the absolute best thing he can do is to perfect his shot. i dont care what position he plays, a shot will get you a scholarship. i'd almost be willing to say that at least 75% of his practice time should be spent doing shots, the majority of which should be with his weak foot.
one more thing. if practicing shots, absolutely make sure that the ball is always rolling. hitting shots standing still will not help you at all. all shots should be done at game speed

I guess they don't don't do shoot outs, because we finished the season with 2 tie games. We have the #1 scorer in the county and the #1 keeper, so we were hoping for a shoot out

thats very strange. usually if theres overtime, theres a shootout. but your right, just about all that matters in a shootout is the keeper. if he can get you two saves/misses, then odds are that you are going to win

When i was in highschool we didnt have a shootout unless it was a tourney. For regular games we just had overtime then it was tied after that.

So the dream season ended Saturday when the boys were beat 2-0 in the third round of the playoffs by Pikesville.
The game was very even (OK except the dern score!) both Keepers had 8 saves each, Pikesville had 21 shots on goal, Brunswick had 19...they were a very good team and we sure gave them a run for their money.
We were all heart broken for our kids. Our school is what I lovingly refer to as the bastard step-child of Frederick County Public Schools and our kids finally earned some respect, so good for them!
The biggest shock to the Pikesville parents...besides "What do you mean you have no place to eat?" was, "You only have 3 seniors?" We look forward to many more great seasons for Michael.
Thanks for all of the well wishes!
