Vote please. Lets gauge the overall attitude of the hR community.

i say that if champ doesnt accept it, we keep going up to a certain point. no more than a $17 million signing bonus.

I got first vote! 100% so far!

I think the offer was a fair one.. ut not the final one. Cant imagine Snyder placing all of his cards on the table in the first round. He is a superior busniness man... and knows how to play the negotiating game.

Patrick

The offer is very fair AND there is room to tweek it, BUT NOT overhaul it.

REGARDLESS of what we think of Champ, he is a DB and that's not where to focus putting the money when it comes to the Defense.

Nobody throws it all out on the table first thing. Negotiations are always expected.

PS: Who knows Champs real name? No cheating

Yup keep talks going but it was a fair start

I agree, fair opening proposal. Just like in my line of work, compromises must be made and at times feelings get hurt, but at some point both sides have to come to a mutually beneficial conclusion. Let's see the Redskins make the first move and up the ante a little bit.

I agree with how the masses are voting here although it seems like several of you guys forgot the ongoing process part in the other thread. Let's not get angry at Champ for wanting market value for his services.

It's roland, and I didn't cheat.

I think this is more than fair for champ. I love the guy, but he is 100% a CB, he's a terrible PR / KR. This offer is VERY fair. I wish players thought more about the team than themselves. (granted I'm sure it's the agent more than Champ...but the point remains the same)

i think the offer was more than fair. he said he wante to be the highest paid CB, and if he accepted it, he woulda been. i expect negotiations to continue, and champ to be a redskin for life.

Negotiations will continue but the bank will not be broken.

I didn't realize that deal would have made him the highest paid CB.
What more does he want????

ESPN reported the the actual deal is nowhere near Ty Law's deal, and Champ is worth much more then him.

What is Ty Law getting?

jporterweb
08-20-2003, 03:43 PM
Signing Bonus: 14million(I think)
Contract: seven-year, $50 million

jsarno
08-20-2003, 03:44 PM
But espn is reporting a 7 year 55 mil and 17 mil signing bonus to Bailey...is this true? That's more than Law.

jporterweb
08-20-2003, 03:49 PM
They don't know what the contract is...they've speculated...a source in an earlier story said that it's not a 17 mil signing bonus, at least half that money is signing bonus.... but the rest of it is performance bonuses.

I agree the offer more than reasonable. However, if management take the stance this is our offer, we are not talking it's Good-Bye Champ.

NO, as a matter of fact his agent even made a quote about how he wants to make sure this contract is negotiated at their table not in the media.

Im just positve the FO is onna stand pat on this.At best they may up the ante a little but then were going to have to tag him b/c of Dans ego and its just him and the agent. You relly think Snyder will give in?I dont. And isnt smoot a fa/ rfa next year too? What are we going to do?Upgrade the d-line and suck at corner?

This is what I'm saying...if we give Champ all this money, it will hurt us. Smoot will seek 5 mil or so per year at least...wiht all our high priced talent, we won't have money to fill in the holes from year to year.

Yes, but by your logic, Champ would have to be payed less than Charles Woodson, who is worth more than him.

Why isn't Woodson asking for more? He is the best cover corner in the league.

NCskinsfanatic

what league?IR?Just joking i just dont think theres much better than Champ look at how many years hes played with no D-line pressure to hurry the QB.

That is debatable. A lot think Champ is. Champ played amazing corner last year, and may be #1 right now, but Woodson does have mega talent. I'm sure this debate will go on for years.

Green-Is-Good

Woodson is at his prime right now. In two years, I think Bailey will be better than Woodson.

jsarno
08-20-2003, 05:54 PM
depends on what you consider "your prime". Bailey is in it...it will last a good 5 years with someone like Bailey. I expect his best year to be a few more years from now, but he's still in his prime.

Comparing Woodson to Bailey is tough...I've watched both and both are impressive, but to tell you the truth, I don't think there is a whole lot of difference.

Except, that Woodson seems to always be hurt and Champ never seems to be hurt. I will take Champ over Woodson everytime.

RedskinRyan
08-20-2003, 08:56 PM
yeah, woodson may play through injuries, causing his stats to be down lately, but champ doesnt get injured, and thats the bottom line. also, remember a few years back(i think champ's rookie season) he had 3 int's in 1 game vs the cardinals. its been awhile since charles has had 3 ints in a season, much less a game

Green-Is-Good
08-20-2003, 10:44 PM
Champ had only two last year.

Monk81
08-20-2003, 11:03 PM
Champ only had 2 int's because everyone threw at Smoot.

Champ is hands down the best corner in the game today and I would love to see him finish his career in b&g hut not at the cost of losing 2 or 3 other players who could contribute for us

Green-Is-Good

You think quarterbacks happily throw in Woodson's direction?!

If that's why Champ had only two picks, Woodson has the same excuse.

You better knock on wood cause if Champ gets injured, I blame you!

Champ does not have the defense that allows him to roam as much as woodson. Champ has a lot of man to man's and gets TONS of deflection. Woodson is sometimes considered overrated because he's allowed to roam and ad lib. He gets picks this way, but he gets burnt this way too. Woodson and Champ have different styles because of what they are asked to do defensively. But I do think Champ is slightly better. I do mean slightly. Both are great players.
Last yeat, Smoot was picked on constantly and most QBs did shy away from Champ. I think Smoot is going to make them pay for that this year.

I can imagine those salaries. OUCH.

(I'm willing to take a notch down in Smoot for a fraction of the price.)

How can Woodson be the best CB in football right now? He didn't even get his standard issue free pass to the Pro Bowl this year and has been plaqued with injuries for two years. Coulda, shoulda, woulda is the only argument for Woodson. He was totally scorched by McCardell for a big TD in the Superbowl as well. INTS shouldn't be the basis for CB proficiency. Champ had like 24 pass deflections last year when the other side actually threw his way.

HAHA, sorry!
Oddly enough in Gameday, Champ is a 99 while Woodson is a 96. Smoot turned into a 99 after a few years (I'm about 7 or 8 seasons in on the franchise) so I had no need to get woodson. Smoot only asked for 4.3 mil or so, so i granted it. Champ is maxed out at 10mil per.
I always look at what the other teams sign good players at, then trade my draft picks for them and keep them at a low contract for a few years. After year one, Samuels asked for 8 mil per, so I cut his ass. I can find tackles just as good (numbers wise) for much less. Only Lavar and Champ are getting the max (and myself as the qb) :D

If you pick up Woodson, what are you going to do with Smoot?

Obviously I'm all for Champ as #1, but when Woodson does play, he is great.
Being a pro bowler doesn't always mean you're the best talent wise. Since Woodson has been injured, he didn't deserve the Pro Bowl, but in terms of talent, he is right up there.

if we're talking over rated, then we need to mention Sehorn. That guy has NEVER been even close to the talent that Champ and Woodson have.

ShaggySkins

The offer was fine, the team needs to stand pat and use the Franchise tag when the season ends. Then see what the market is for a CB like Bailey.

I don't think people overrate Sehorn. He's widely considered a bum player. Maybe you're referring more to his overexposure in commercials and such. That's definitely annoying, but I'm happy with his image as a horrible player. :smash:

Maybe "we the fans" know better I guess...but when you watch him play, all the announcers have to say is how WONDERFUL he is. He sucks.

hailyeah...who is that girl in your image?
