why have we not moved this guy back to DT? He's not a good DE, just average at best, he was a good run stopper as a DT, with our huge problems at DT why haven't we moved him?

I think he was going to be moved for this game....I might be wrong but I read that somewhere.

I haven't read anything at all on Wynn and a possible move...this is why I ask...maybe you guys read something I didn't.

I believe he is already practicing at DT.

From Redskins.com;

"During Monday afternoon’s practice, Renaldo Wynn moved inside on passing downs—alongside expected starter Jermaine Haley—while ends Regan Upshaw and Bruce Smith provided the pass rush on the outside."

Good...right now he's the best DT we have.

You guys know whats going to happen? Smith will end up starting again with Upshaw on the other side. But atleast with all the career backups we will be well rested.

I may be one of the few but I think we need Smith playing full time right now, we have so many guys who have not played much, that we need someone out there to be the leader. I am not down on Smith as much as some people but he may very well be our best lineman

...which is sad.

Anyway, good to hear Wynn's taking reps at DT, but he needs to be there on running downs, too. That's actually the more pressing concern.

He needs to be practicing at DT more than on passing downs. If he's not in there on "run" downs, then there won't be many passing downs. He is clearly the most talented and experienced DT we have right now. He would also make the rotation at DT deeper, moving the career backups back to that spot. Our best bet right now is this, IMO.

RDE Smith
RDT Haley
LDT Wynn
LDE Upshaw

Ladairis Jackson would back up Smith and Zellner would back up Upshaw. We need our 4 best D line on the field on 1st and 2nd down.

I say give Zellner and Jackson a chance to play ends and let Smith Upshaw, and Wynn rotate in. Wynn is the key because he can play DE/DT. Right now the pool of DT are Case, Cannida, Cowsette, Haley, Holsey, and Jackson, (of which we will only keep 3 or 4).

I found that comment odd too JDS. Only on passing downs. WTF. Get him in there on running plays as well.

we can look at this positively if we want...at least we have depth! :lol1:

We can usher in and out almost the whole DL for fresh legs. There just aren't many guys that stand out here.

The starting front four of Smith, Wynn, Haley, and Upshaw is not any good, but it does provide us with depth up front. I don't think Bruce can play on 1st or 2nd down, but with Cannida, Holsey, Jackson's, Chase, and Cecere coming off the bench, you might be able to get a semi-reasonable rotation on the D Line.

our dt's are fine on passing downs when they come up. we need wynn in on running downs. im all for smith playing every down, it will certainly help him get his 3.5 sacks that he needs

I am not down on Smith either... but the guy IS old... and to hear that he is our best is disheartening to say the least.

He's not in there on running downs because that is when Smith is projected not to be in the game. When Smith comes in, intead of removing Wynn, they slide him inside. This isn't new. They did this throughout last season also on 3rd downs.

Alright, but I'm saying we should put him in there on running downs, too. Get Zellner or someone else to play end.

does anyone really think Smith has enough in the tank to be effective? Or is he just around to get his record?

So you think we need to make Wynn an every down DT is what I'm gathering. I wondered the same thing in a thread earlier. We then have to determine how effective our DE play will be with such a move. Wynn isn't a world-beater at DE, but he is pretty solid/consistent. Can we get at least that same level of play from say Zellner if we plug him there to start?

You kidding he was about the only one putting pressure on the QB against the Pats. I am glad we have him 1 more year.

Yeah, he did come close to a couple of sacks against the Pats. Hopefullyu he can keep it up throughout the year.

Only heard a few things about him this camp...I hope he is just rehabbing and not because he does not stand out. He looked like a keeper last year.

I don't watch the preseason anymore. It NEVER tells the correct story.
Last year, Smith sucked for most of the year. He got 4 of his sacks (almost half) in 2 games, one vs the terrible Texans who allowed everyone and their mother to sack Carr. He did next to nothing in terms of pressure or run stopping that year. It might have been because he wasn't thrilled with playing in Washington, who knows. But we need a force on the ends. With next to no interior line, the ends need to cause havic. Do you think he can provie that DURING THE SEASON?

I would LOVE to see this guy get some long playing time. He showed signs of dominance last year, but was very inconsistant. I think he could provide more disruption than anyone we have to this point.

I honestly believe Smith is man enought o play hard all year. I think Bruce is more professional than that, now training camp is another story :D
