So help me God, if I hear the words "Mark Brunell", "super smart", "keep fighting", and "starter" in the same sentence, I will cry.

He wouldnt announce it this early anyway. too much time for the bucs to prepare for it. Gotta have some sort of gamesmanship. It will happen mid week and be a "huge" surprise.

Two things about this:
1. Who cares about keeping it a secret.
2. This thinking is giving too much credit to our coaching staff. We have not been deceptive or tricky in a long time. Why start now?

Prepare for what? There is no NFL game film on JC. If the change is to be made, Gibbs will announce it today, or next Monday or whatever Monday the week before it happens.
Personally, I can't fathom any possible reason Gibbs can use for not making the change.

it will go something like this

You know Mark is really fighting his guts out right now and the team is responding. Jason Campbell, well he knows his place on the team and future there. Well we are real secure with him in there. Adn don't forget about Collins. He really showed me something in that last quarter of the pre-season there.

Below is an interesting take from John Clayton at ESPN.com about JC. He is one of the few reporters I respect.

Every Monday, Joe Gibbs assembles his assistants for a staff meeting. The subject of third-string quarterback Jason Campbell comes up. Each week, Gibbs goes around the room and has an open discussion of when to give Campbell the chance to start ahead of quarterback Mark Brunell. Although it is likely Brunell will start next Sunday's game against Tampa Bay, Campbell's time is coming soon. The Redskins are 3-6 and all but out of playoff contention. The coaches like Campbell's progress, but Gibbs feels compelled to stay with a veteran quarterback to placate a team that is trying hard. Although it's not out of the question for Campbell to get the start, it's more reasonable to expect him to be in the lineup sometime after Thanksgiving, possibly in Week 12. By the way, don't think Gibbs is going to step down at the end of the season. He spent part of recent weeks in meetings looking at the 2007 salary cap and its implications on the Redskins.

The main hope I have for JG announcing JC as the qb is that the offense needs a spark and a change (despite the possibility that MB may give the team a better chance to win now - I strongly don't think so). Hopefully JG will realize the future is now in view of the Skins record, performance, and remaining schedule. That outweighs any possibility that maybe we do slightly better with MB than JC.

Where's Jack Kent Cooke when you need him?
Gibbs doesn't have the his feet to the fire like he did in his 1st stint.

The way things are looking, I would like JC to get more than 4 games this year. Every game he plays this season will equate to more success next year.

I personally believe that Gibbs will remain true to his word and coach out his contract, but I don't think that just because he is taking a look at the salary cap means that he is a lock to return. When he does leave, Coach Gibbs will leave the Redskins with the tools to build on his tenure.

I could see Gibbs going around the table and getting the following votes for QB...

Gibbs: "Ok...Al?"
Al: "I think Collins knows the system. I give him my vote."

Gibbs: "OK...one vote Collins. How about you, Gregg?"
Gregg: "Archuleta. He is a beast in the locker room."

Gibbs: "OOOOOOOOK. Anyway...What about you, Bugel?"
Bugel: *Awakes from nap* "Huh? Go with Schroeder, boss."

Gibbs: "Oh brother. Coy?"
Coy: "I can't talk right now, Dad...I/m on a conference call with JD and the boys from Home Depot pit crew talking strategy for next week race."

Gibbs: "Ok, Son. I understand the priority. Mr Snyder? Who should be QB?"
Danny: "Campbell...because I can get more jersey sales from him."

Gibbs: "At least you are honest. Vinny?"
Vinny: "I don't care, I'm text messaging Shannahan right now. Two first rounders and Plummer will be ours! HA HA HA"

Gibbs: "That leaves me. I'm taking Brunell. He is super smart and he played his tail off last week. Since I'm the tie breaker, we go with Mark for one more week.

Gibbs: "Hey Coy...pass the phone."

Look guys i do believe that Campbell should be put in. Not because Brunell was losing games. Only because we are out of it and there is no reason not to see if he can play. I honestly fault the play calling more than Brunell. How many screens or reverses can you do in one game. Brunell has shown when he has protection he can make the pass he needs to. But putting Campbell in wont solve the terrible line play on both sides of the ball. Putting Campbell in wont teach the defense how to tackle again. And putting Campbell in wont stop the huge pass plays our DB's are giving up. Everyone is looking for a spark, but i think the larger part of our problem lies on the other side of the ball. How do we go from a top 10 D to a bottom 5 D. We have pretty much the same players minus Clark and Lavar. Something needs to be done on Defense if we have any hope of winning again this year. Just my 2 cents

I'm speechless. My heart is pounding. Now I just fear for JC. I think Redskins Nation is going to have to exercise an EXTREME amount of patience for Campbell now. Soooo much lies on Jason becoming the franchise QB that we cannot afford scarring this kid if he has ONE bad game. We must cheer every completion whether for 20 yards or 2.

okay... the 2007 season just began.... i look for a lift in performance by the o line.. nobody wants to be the one who gets campbell hurt.

lloyd must be jumping for joy..

He's a big boy. He'll be alright. Besides, he got his big payday already. Time to clear a path for the future of the team!

Yeah, I agree.... I don't like MB as a player, but he has always reacted in a great way.

Now that Mark is out at QB, can he play MLB?

He is good at locating the running back...

Why is everyone so harsh on Mark? He gave us a few decent years, and IMO his 2005 season was the best season a Redskins QB has had since Brad Johnson in 1999.

That said, Long live JC! :)

Mark played his heart out. It's just his body couldn't produce what his heart wanted. He tried hard. But it's now time for a change. So thanks for a great season last year. Now let's see what Campbell can do.

I don't think I would word it that way. It implies that losing at Philly and losing Portis are good things

Amen. Exactly as i thought, it is about time. Remember now folks, this is cambell's development time, we need to expect him to make a lot of mistakes so hopefully he won't make them next season.

His quote went something like this he said something about "packages" than said "We'd like Rocky to play as much as he can play".

Seeing as he hasn't played at all on D I wouldn't all of a sudden expect him to turn into our starting WIL

As well he should. I'm afraid that some of this fanbase is going to mark Campbell as a savior or a failure come Sunday evening.
Just remember folks, lots of great QB's didn't start out as so and some real bad QB's looked real good in their debut.

Couldn't agree more. I am nervous for this kid, I really hope he comes out and plays well. All I want is to see him show some presence in the pocket and get the ball downfield a bit, perhaps even show some mobility. I can't wait.

very true.. we will likely make a play for either duckett or betts, but not likely both..

portis should go on IR.. no reason to get him hurt further. he needs to heal

My question doesn't mean to imply anything, other than what it says.

I count myself as one of the head scratchers that wondered why Duckett was collecting arse-splinters, as opposed to knocking D-Linemen back 5 yards on 3rd and 1.

I just think that Gibbs appears to be very prescient by going after Duckett. Think of the tissy we'd be in right now if we didn't have him. I don't think it worked out the way anyone expected/wanted, but hey, it'll work.

As I've said all along; I back Gibbs on this decision first and foremost.

I was ecstatic when the Redskins drafted JC...and I'm ecstatic to finally see him start.

But to reiterate what many have already said; GIVE HIM TIME. He won't have Portis...he may not have the best protection...and he won't have a strong defense to lean on. I expect sacks and turnovers....but that is ok. The speed of the NFL is tough to master at first.

At a minimum, he will be able to move around and make more plays happen amidst pressure ala what Romo is doing in Dallas. That has paid bigtime dividends with the Girls. Granted Brunell isn't as immobile as Bledsoe, but he can't move around nearly as well as he used to.

You have to expect them and he's going to make a lot of them. As Gibbs said, he needs everyone's support.

I applaud the change myself....but for once and i ask if im the only one here but i for once would love to hear an answer from Gibbs in a presser that is truthful and straight from the hip. Kinda tired of the familiar blah blah blah given to us for the simple reason as to not wanting to hurt anyones feelings.

I want to hear from him... "Hey ... Adam's play here for the contract he was given is unacceptable and quite frankly very dissappointing!" or

"If Carlos drops another interception im going to feed his young to the D-Line!" or

"Hey ... Brunnel is playing like Ramsey last year when we pulled him.. so his arse is going to collect some splinters and let him think about his pityful play!"

something would be nice, other then the "their all great competitors and they played the hearts out!" over and over again!

i want some emotion , i want to hear what they are thinking , i want to hear the truth....

am i wrong here?

Anybody, that follows the Redskins can see Rogers hands are as useful as pet rocks. And we've all seen Arch get beat like a red headed step child in coverage. Why do we need OUR coach to throw OUR guys under the bus? I for one don't think that's going to fix anything.
