View Full Version : The Mark Brunell Appreciation Thread

Today, Mark gets demoted to #2 to allow our potential franchise QB his shot at taking the team to a new level. Knowing Mark Brunell, he is probably handling this like a gentleman. He won't demand a trade or say "no comment" to the media. He is a true leader and I'm sure he will be the first to congratulate Jason after his first TD.

So anyway, this thread is to say thanks to the guy who helped get Gibbs back in the playoffs.

This is the guy who has a 3-1 record against the Cowboys while wearing a B&G jersey. (And had 9 TDs to only 2 INTs)

This is the guy who was 1/2 of the midnight miracle duo in Dallas last year, bombing two passes over Roy Williams to Santana Moss. Half of the Dallas fanbase had their jaws hit the floor...the other half didn't find out until the next morning. LOL

This is the guy with the NFL record for most consecutive passes in a game.

This is the guy who handled getting benched for Ramsey admirably.

This is the guy who threw FOUR TDs in one game against the Cowboys at FedEx!

This is the guy who took Gibbs to the hospital when he was being scouted to come to the Skins.

Brunell ranks 19th in NFL history for completions, 22nd in Pass Attempts, 25th in passing yards and 37th in Passing TDs.

Thanks for the memories, Mark. Do us proud and help shape Jason into a future Pro Bowl QB.

BTW - If you have nothing nice to say about him, then please move along...

Mark did the best he could and always gave 100%. I think he was one bad injury away from getting us to the Superbowl in 2005 (the last hit on his knee in the Giants game). He took everything in stride and provided constant leadership. He will always be a Redskin.

Thanks for the services you provided the Redskins Mark. The fans really appreciate it. There were good times and there were bad times but you fought for our franchise and we're very appreciative. Those victories over Dallas are priceless.

I never, ever saw MB give up once in a game as a Skin and I never saw him take a play off. While some skills have diminished, I don't think his heart ever did. He has provided us with some thrilling plays with his arm and his legs (lets not forget a couple of those 10-15yd scrambles that saved our tales a couple of times). Hope he stays around and teaches our new guy a thing or two.

I'm very thankful for Mark Brunell, I have backed him to death the last 3 years here. And I still don't know that this seasons problems don't stem more from adding Saunders and subtracting our defense than they do MB being unable to get it done anymore. I think he can just not with this line and this D...just my opinion. Thanks to dj (who has also stood up for MB consistently) for starting this thread. MB you are a class act, a helluva redskin and a unquestionable Joe Gibbs guy! Thank you and while it may be time to pass the torch, I respect MB for his leadership and commitment to the Redskins for the last 3 years. The only difference in MB and Gibbs other three SB winning QB's IMO is Mark never had the first Hog to protect him....not one, again just my opinion.

Thanks Mark for the Dallas memories that I will be telling my kids about someday. You are the best Skins QB that I have seen play in person and a class act guy. I will never forget the 5-0 or we go home playoff run.

P.S.- Do you have any interest in coaching?

Anyway, in the spirit of the thread, thanks, Mark. I hope you become a coach somewhere so you don't have to completely give up on the game.

Thank you Mark for your hard work and dedication to the Redskins even when everything was stacked against you and half the Redskins faithful treated you worse than they do cowboys. You handled everything far better than I ever could and you will always have a supporter in me. You had an amazing 2005 and that became the greatest season I have ever witnessed from my Redskins. For that, you will always be remembered. Thank you for ripping the cowboys and their fan's hearts out THREE TIMES. Week 2 in 2005 was one of the greatest moments I have ever felt in my life.

Hail to the Redskins and hail to MB.

Mark Brunell will always be a legite Redskin to me, if for no other reason than the Monday Night Miracle and whatever we end up calling that wild finish last week. Plus, Mark led us to our first playoff win in Gibbs v.2...

Thanks, Mark!!!!

Well I will stop by and show some appreciation for a guy who left it all out on the field last year and this year, thanks for the playoffs and the wins over the cowboys. And I want to thank Mark in advance for helping to make Jason a super bowl winning QB.

I'll never forget last season for the rest of my life. The 5-in-a-row sequence was really something special and unforgetable to watch.

Although Mark was "only" our QB for 3 seasons, he's been in so many memorable games for the Redskins. The "Monday Night Miracle," the thrashing of Dallas at home, the first playoff game since '99 against the Bucs, the 22-straight completions, the "OT" game versus Jacksonville and "the Block" game versus Dallas just this year.

Mark is a great guy, a gentleman, and a pure professional. It was great to have him start for us during those memorable times, and it'll be great for him to help mold Jason Campbell into a player and professional that we can only hope will mimic himself.

Thanks for the memories, Mark. You'll always have a place here.

Thanks Mark!
You had a great run with the Redskins team and I hope you stay with us a few more years.

With all the busts we have had in our recent history, I think Mark Brunell is one of the bright spots. Solid veteran quarterback who gave us 2.5 decent years and led us to the second round of the postseason.

As the QB who was appointed by Gibbs as his starter - Mark you did a fine job. But age and injury caused you to play far below your standards. ........ Your job in Washington in NOT done. You still have to earn your money and that can be done by helping young Campbell as much as possible. Give him as much of your knowledge as he can absorb. Make him a solid QB - much like yourself in your younger days. You were a leader - now its your time to be a teacher!

I will never forget the day that we walked beside each other in the tunnel area of FedExField and with a smile you looked at me and asked "Do you guys have room for a 5th?" in relation to the Funky4.

I believe that you deserved much better then you have received in relation to the overall appreciation from this fanbase. I hope that you realize that some of us truly appreciate you for what you did for this team.

Ditto DJ. Thanks! I posted an abbreviated recognition in the other thread. Don't forget about 52-17 vs. 49ers! One of the most joyous and memorable afternoons I've ever spent with the Redskins. At one point before junk time, we were at the second highest margin of victory in history...I believe that's correct.

No matter what, you always hung in there. You never gave up or hung your head and you brought us a playoff win. You brought us the most memorable games since the 0-5 to 5-5 turnaround. You brought the first legitimate passing threat since Brad Johnson. For that, I thank you and hope you do your best to help Jason as he picks up the keys.

Mark -

Thank you so much for the best season i've ever experienced from my Redskins last year. It was magical, you were magical, it was the stuff dreams are made of. You were part of the greatest moment I've ever seen in sports history. You've made me feel like I'm a part of something, and as a fan, that's all that I can wish for. No matter what the game, or the situation, you always kept your character. As a young person, that's something that I look up to, and if I remember anything from your tenure as a Redskin, it will most likely be that. You were the embodiment of a Gibbs guy, and a fantastic role model. Thanks Mark, for everything.

Last season was quite simply the most fun I've ever had watching this team. I know this was going to happen and I know we're looking toward the future now but a part of me is seriously bummed. He didn't get us a superbowl but he was a huge part of some incredible games and at LEAST one that will go down as legendary.

Thanks, Mark. Respect.

I've always been a MB supporter. Even though our O has struggled this year, I never blamed it on Mark.....it was more of adapting to a new offensive system. And then saying that our offense was made to fit Mark's physical inabilities, which is why he doens't chuck the ball down field kind of had everyone confused, well maybe just me.

But I wish Mark the best. He's had heck of a career, adn hopefully he'll stayon the team to help develop JC progression.

i gotta say that i was down about how the team was doing and decided to blame all or most of it on brunell. However, i just saw the news conference with him responding to the Qb switch on Redskins.com and i have to say that he is a really good guy. i have a lot of respect for him because he is hurting inside but he wants to do wuts best for the team and for campbell. i love how he mentored ramsey and campbell when he was benched. he gets my good guy award.

Thanks to Mark for being such a classy guy on and off the field. I love watching you think on your feet and direct your receivers while running all over the place. If the conductor of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra could do that, the symphony would be a lot more interesting.

Thank you Mark.
A 100% class act, and most importantly, a Dallass killer over his entire career, just take a LOOK at these stats in 9 games vs. the Cowgirls:

Comp.- Att. - Yds. - TD - Int. - Rush att/yds
155 - 259 - 1868 - 16 - 4 ------- 21 - 137

Now THERE'S a Cowboy Killer for 'ya!:guillo:
I welcome Brunell as a continual backup/mentor to Campbell - plus, with far less playing time, his legs/arm will be as fresh as possible if he needs to come into a game again.
You've got a place in my heart, and Redskins history, for 2005 ALONE, Mark - THANK YOU!! :-)

Mark Brunell,

You crushed Dallass at their homecoming with two heartbreaking, quick-strike TDs to Santana Moss in the 4th quarter to ruin the Aikman, Irvin, Smith honor ceremony. For that you will always have my respect and admiration.

You later helped stomp them at home in a truly merciless whipping. For that, I will always buy you a beer whenver I see you.

Any man who beats Dallass will live forever in my memory as a fine and upstanding human being.

Live long and prosper.
