Cooley Playing Hurt
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
For the past six weeks, tight end Chris Cooley has been playing with a separated shoulder, but he said he did not think surgery would be an option.
Cooley apparently separated his shoulder during the Redskins' 36-30 overtime win over Jacksonville on Oct. 1. He is not wearing a harness, has not missed significant practice time and has played every game.
"I think it's fine. It's just something that will need some rest, from what they said," Cooley said. "It's getting better. When I take a big hit it'll be sore and swell up. Like when I took a big hit in the Dallas game it didn't feel great, but it's not a big deal right now."
I guess this explains why he hasnt quite been himself this season. He has been injured most of the season.

Cooley is a baller. Resign him at all costs and watch him go! He could emerge at a big time team leader with time. He is still really young but he has to be one of my top 3 favorite Redskins.

why didnt he say anything?! you cant do that chris! that certainly explains his numbers being a bit low, but he is indeed a tough dude.

he talked about this on Elliot in the Morning last monday. i posted it on here somewhere. he acted like it was nothing. he said he takes a shot in the shoulder and shot in the butt before every game. he acted like it was nothing, said he would play no matter what.
he said he feels great for a few hours after he gets his shots, long enough to play a game, then when the shots wear off it hurts again.

I don't know, sometimes it is better not reveal these things, so the opponents can't try to go after it and make it worse.

To be honest, I haven't seen the difference. He is playing very well. One of the best goal line receivers in the league.

Be amazed at how many on the team carry these type of things with them each week. That is why there's such a hush, when it comes to excuses. Not that some don't deserve a lightning bolt behind their behinds, but it does explain how badly these guys want to be a part of something good.

Cooley is a monster. He's a guy you want on your football team. He just shuts up and plays football. I hope he's here for the rest of his career.

Rough, rough year all around. Cooley is the man and I'm even happier with buying his jersey now.

he's not trying to cover it up or anything, just no one asked. he talked about it openly on the radio. he's going to play no matter what. he just takes his shots and plays the game.

i thought about and understand that, but if he doesnt/didnt do anything to make it any better, one wrong hit and he could be gone for the season.

my thoughts exactly. Now there is a target on this shoulder. Trust me on this, everyone is going to attack him here.

I noticed how he wasn't himself last game. My friends said he was scared of Dawkins but he didn't have that same goofy smile and dropped catches that he's usually money for. Maybe he was just nursing that shoulder? It would explain why he would want to avoid contact with it and why he looked kinda disappointed in himself.
Plus he would totally truck dawkins, do a repeat of what sellars did last year :)

The article says it doesn't need surgery and the only thing it needs is rest. He is choosing to play though it. It is one of those cases of playing with pain, not injury.

he's just playing through it. he said so on the radio. our front office has not been the most trustworthy on the injury reports. this write-up is probably a result of his interview on Elliot in the Morning. otherwise, we never would have known.

Yeah, I read about this. It's pretty stupid to tell this to opposing teams DURING the season, IMO. They're just going to target the shoulder now.

Cooley's a true football player. His been mum about this, and still hasn't missed a game or PT. And didn't he go on a 3 game steak with a TD reception?, except against the Iggles. Yeah we definitly need to resign him, he's been a stand up guy and a helluva player. Give him his money and let him retire a Skin.

What a beast. Cooley is one of the toughest players on this team.

cooley is a beast.
however, portis was playing with a messed up shoulder that he said he could fight through and now he is having surgery.
I hope this is not one of those things that can get considerably worse during the season since it is already damaged

maybe Cooley should not have mentioned it on the radio. i hope the Redskins dont get in trouble for not saying anything about it on the injury report all this time.

He is practicing and playing, the Skins don't have to list if anyone is sore as long as they don't suddenly pull him from the active roster on gameday.

not only that, he has adapted to a change in position and function for al saunders offense and is coming on ... i think he would be a good one to resign long term now... but i doubt the front office will do so

I have a hard time envisioning no Cooley. They got to sign this dude.

Well that cant be healthy for you. Our team is really roughed up right now.

Cooley, Portis, and Moss are the three cogs this offense needs to be productive. To not resign him would be one of the biggest mistakes we've ever made.

it will go against what the front office has done in years past....they seldom are pro-active inthis area.
i wonder if akh has changed his thought that cooley might not be the best fit for saunders and could end up being traded ???

You have to like his toughness, there is no doubt about that. He still seems to have the same power and hands he has always had. We need to re-sign this guy no matter what.

I have a feeling that he is going to become Campbell's favorite target. He has great hands and I think that he has the ability to catch the ball in any role at any point on the field.

Cooley is a Gamer. He must be retained at all costs. He plays with heart and is close to if not the definition of a REDSKIN player that Gibbs talks about all the time!:sfight:

I think it will happen. I also can't see him exploring any other teams at this point considering how we have used him so much and how he is a part of the team. When does his contract expire?

You gotta go get some other safety with a brain to help ol' Sean in the backfield, man. He can't do it mentally himself. Not at all.

He's a tough player. He doesn't drop many that come his way and he usually keeps his feet moving for extra yards or feet. Like Portis, these type of players just keep going until they physically can't. I think Portis should have sat out longer than he did because although he's made some good plays, he just wasn't the same. I just hope Cooley can hang on and get his rest in the off season.

Not to mention the fact that Campbell playing opens up many more possible routes for Mr. Cooley.

JC keeps plays alive with his movement nicely while he looks for secondary recievers.. he and cooley should end up as a terrific duo in time

I especially liked the one where he shook off a would be tackler and stood in the face of another one to make a perfect off balance throw to James "Mr. Reliable" Thrash.
