He looked good all night, except for the fumble...I wouldn't mind trading Betts for a decent DT.

The front office has to like Sultan... they might have to figure out a way to get him on the active roster... i've been a backer since his junior year at SC. I hope him, C.Smith, and Chris Clemmons can make this team. That would be a solid draft class with only 3 picks.

Id trade Betts or Watson for a decent Dt.I think Sultan, with Hue Jackson coaching him, can be a darkhorse in the backfield battle.Altough from the stats it didnt seem like our d played too bad.

They have to find a way for this guy to make the team. He has good moves and speed and finishes the run pretty well. The TD run was impressive. The fumble...not so impressive, but even so, he looks to be simular to Canidate and might make a good backup. Could they possibly keep five Running Backs?

hmm... i don't know... 5 is a bit much. when we had a return specialist, like bates, he didn't really count as a running back. So i think we can get away with four, but five?? We'd really be short somewhere else. Someone will have to go. I don't think we can stash any of our backs on the PS because someone will pick them up.

i dont know i'm a watson fan personally, but i have to admit, betts really stepped up tonight as well as sultan. as far as 5 rbs i just dont see it happening, now we might want to practice squad him and then allocate him to nfl europe in hopes to polish him for next year. just a thought though.

I think Sultan is headed for the PS unless they can find someone willing to trade for Betts, otherwise it would be a substantial cap hit to release a 2nd round pick in his 2nd year.

Hey I was at the game tonight and I didn't hink that Betts looked all that great.. But what really puzzles me is that the old ball coached was happier than a fag in Boys town when he got canidate. His personal quote was now we have a running back that can take a draw forty yards instead of the 8 to 10 yards that Betts and Watson were getting last year.

Well people I haven't seen any of that from him yet, and I'm really not that impressed with him. I like Sultan but I have to be realistic about everything, he scored in the 4th against scrubs, but that does tell me that he is better than the 4th stringers they have him playing against. But what I don't like is the fact that he fumbled against those same scrubs. Watson only had two carries tonight, don't know why but i'm curious about that one.

As I sit here and read some of these post, many posters are looking to ouster Watson, when in all actuality he is our most consistant back. Many want him out for Sultan, but here's a fact, Watson touched the rock 148 times last year and didn't put the rock on the carpet at all. Out of all the running Backs in the nFL last year with 100 or more carries, there were only four running backs that didn't fumble, And Guess what... Watson was one of those four. These next few days are going to be hard for the coaches and staff when making cuts..

yeah, but he batted up that ball against big D that roy williams took in for a touchdown.

Everything aside, the team will look the entire running back core. Sultan has a speed and strength combo that is desirable. While i agreed that you can't just look at what he did against backups, that's what Watson played against too. The only back to go against the 1's this year is Trung. Not many of the headlining backs have looked impressive so far, that's because it's preseason.

We have to let a back get into a flow. I can't imagine how anyone can be unhappy with trung in the limited time he's played. He's played against 3 pretty solid D's. Put up respectable #'s against the first team and he hasn't fumbled. I think most of us know that trung is a guy to get you a few yards for 10 carries and then busts out a long one. He hasn't had the opportunity to get the ball 20 times, so i think it's early to judge.

We have a great problem though. I'd say that Betts and Watson have decent value and if we can package either of them to help ourselves, we should seriously consider it.

Think the reason Watson only got 2 carries is because Betts hasn't played at all this preseason and needs work. Also, maybe SS is holding a live audition for other teams in need of a backup RB ... then maybe Sultan makes the active roster.

Watson is the best back we have and I am not sure what th deal is with the staff that they can't see this. Betts did fine. It was his first game back, he hasn't practiced much, he will run with authority. I am not sold on Sultan beasically because he didn't do anything last week against starting defense. There is a big difference in going up against Lineman and Lbs that wont make the cut than going up against Lewis and Boulware.

Betts would probably draw more in trade value. I personally beleive that Watson is the man for the job he is the most consistant

Watson only got 2 carries in the game. I think SS wants Betts to do his thing so his value can go up. Sultan is fun to watch but I still think he's a work in progress. I know Sonny love Sultan and I am sure they will find a way to keep him around. I would really hate for Them Damned Cowboys to pick up any running back that we let go. Could you imagine the cowboy offense with Betts..... I hope a trade is around the corner. We damned sure better hope that any one of our RB's don't land in our division. I wouldn't want to go against any of them.

Sending Sultan to the practice squad is a bad idea, mainly because he's not likely to stay there after this preseason. He's looked quite good, and despite it being against third-stringers, I'm entirely sure an RB-needy team would give him a shot.

Right now I still think the best idea is to package up Betts or Watson with a draft pick and get another D-lineman for it. They're in the same mold, and we have more than enough options in the backfield as it is.

As I just posted in another thread, he's pushing to get a spot on this team. Sonny said he definately makes the team. We'll see. I like him alot from what I've seen.

I still see Watson or Bettss getting traded, even more now that the Sultan is looking so good

We got to try Betts & Watson out for a year. I'd like to see Trung & Sultan get the same shot. They both look more promising than Betts & Watson. So either. But Betts has both the better trade value and has shown the least.

Red, the whole situation boils down to one being a 2nd round pick and the other being a UDFA... In my honest opinion, Trung hasn't hit any Home Runs like he has been hyped tpo be....

Who's hit homeruns in the preseason? I think it's unfair to knock trung for being solid so far. If you put a different name on the jersey you'd love that he's scored a couple of times against starting D's and he's put up decent #'s in limited time. I really believe that trung will shine when he's given the opportunity to get a feel for a defense and get 15-20 carries.

I hope trung can rid the doubt of some of you week 1. Well, we have 4 good running backs... we'll see how it unfolds.

JoeDaSchmoe

Trung hasn't exactly had much opportunity to hit home runs. Why the knock on him, anyway? I've watched him rip off six- and seven-yard runs with pretty good regularity throughout the past two games, and he's had some nice catches, too. It's hard to break a big run when you get about ten touches per game instead of twenty five, and when your O-line is constantly rotating.

Nah. Watson and Betts have to stay. Trung will be fine. Sultan has proven nothing until he puts up the yards against starters, and doesn't fumble against backup scrubs that probbaly wont make the team.

betts needs to get traded so we can get a nice DT or something

Man, we are just not going to leave this DT thing alone.
Sultan will get his last look this week - if he fumble HE GONE for sure. If he has a good game, ..... IMO he's gone either way, just no room for a #5 back. Morton has looked pretty good in the backfield so he's the #4 besides being on ST.

DallasSux
08-25-2003, 10:45 AM
morton has not done good in the ST. trung got a couple of short runs for TDs besides that he hasnt looked impressive. sultan got a 15 yard run for a TD. fumbling isnt really the problem stephen davis did a lot of that.
