My apologies to the regular readers of Doc Talk. Due to some technical difficulties, I was unable to pick Doc's brain this week the way that I normally do. I was able to ask him a few questions via email and this is what he provided.....

rsf10- Critique the play of Jason Campbell against the Falcons....

DW- Jason's play was even. He made a few big plays with his arm, and he turned the ball over a few times. QB's young and old are judged by wins. The Cooley drop, Jason's over throw to Moss and one or two breakdown in pass protection were key.

rsf10- He got his first taste of the Boo birds on Sunday. What should fans expect from him at this point?

DW- Welcome to Pro Ball! Jason played in the SEC. Every road trip he was booed. I spoke to Jason this week. His number one goal is to WIN. We have to remember that Jason was not involved with the first unit at any part of the season until the bye week. Not only is he young, but he's been limited in working with the teams starting receivers.

rsf10- Talk about the D and their inability to tackle...

DW- Once again the Defense was up and down. The 4th and 1 stop was BIG, but again the inability to get off the field on third down proved to be their worst enemy. When the Falcons were backed up in the end zone they should have been stopped! As we all know they scored.

rsf10- There has been much discussion around town about Michael Wilbon's latest column. Give me your take on the points that he raised.

DW- Joe Gibbs and all other coaches under Dan Snyder's management have ended up with the same results. Playing the free agent game is not a bad way to approach building a winner if you pick the right players. Washington has picked a lot of outstanding players thru free agency, but it has gutted the draft, and the ability to grow it's own talent. The goal is this town use to be the Super Bowl!

rsf10- At this point, what are your general feelings about the current state of this franchise?

DW- As bad as things have been at times this year, winning would solve most of their problems. My anger with this team is based on my pride for the Burgundy and Gold. They have some great guys that play hard every week. The problem is depth; they have none! This team has got to pay more attention to the NFL Draft and less to press clippings of former NFL stars. Jason Campbell gives me hope that this Offense will look and produce like other top NFL teams next season! Way too much time was wasted on a injured Mark Brunell, Portis will be healthy, Betts has new money, and the offensive line should be better if none of the starters get hurt over the next three weeks. The only unanswered question is how much change will take place when the Ownership team takes over in March.
