First of all we have 21 coaches including JG. The average number of coaches whose teams that are leading thier divisions is 17. Leading me to my first question. What does Don Breax do? He is listed as the offensive coordinator, when AS implements the offense, that to me is what the actual Offensive Coordinator does. I may be wrong. We have 2 assistant HC over the offense..Huh?...Joe Bugel and AS. Now my problem is, why do we need this? We also have 2 secondary coaches..many teams have 1. Jerry gray is listed as passing game coordinator/safties coach...Huh?
Although I'm not in favor of getting rid of Al Sanders. I think after next year after another offseason, we'l see what we do best and what we need to scratch after this year, then this offense can do some damage. But if it doesn't work next year, somebody's out....I just don't understand how JG can justify this? I think Don Breax is just collecting a check...he was making the offensive calls in JG's first year back and couldn't get it done...If Joe brings in AS and turn over playcalling to him, then why is Don still around? I know he's one of the old school guys but is he really making a difference in a good way or is he another stack of offensive ideas that Joe has to sort through? And its clear to me that this coaching model doesn't work. Too many Chiefs....I can't understand why even Danny would go along with this. Is he so blind to the fact that he wants to win that he can't see....
If the average number of coaches in the league is 17, which 4 positions (not people) would you cut?..
Look at it yourself here:

I also think that contact is a major issue? We didn't have any during TC and we had the softest camp since I can remember. I read where after Joe's speech after the bucs game they went backto hitting in practice..
It's good that Joe has made the change to be more physical. I just hope that he approaches this offseason and TC with that same approach. I feel good about this offense, I'm not too excited over the Defense going into the offseason. GW realy has his work cut out for him..IMO

It's extremely difficult for those of us on the outside to understand or appreciate the dynamics of this or any other coaching staff. Anything we have to say on the subject would be, at best, an educated guess. More likely just a guess, not even an educated one.
All that being said, I do wonder if the size of the coaching staff encourages 'committee-ism' and stifles creativity and decisiveness. As I noted above, I can't prove anything because I don't know enough. But I wonder. Joe Gibbs sure is a different coach now -- and not in a good way. I wonder how many people are talking in his ear when he's trying to decide whether or not to go for it on 4th and 2 yards to go. In any case, if he's listening to all those voices then the blame is with Gibbs and no other.

good points spence yes it would have to be a guess. But looking at it, maybe the comittee thing doesn't work...who knows they may think it is working...(I sure hope not)

It reminds me of my time with the government. There were so many bosses with decision making power that they had to meet twice a week just to be on the same page. Nevermind that there was a reorganization every 4-6 months (not a joke at all).
If the head coach and the assistant head coaches (screw their fluffed up names) are competent, there isn't much need for so many people under them. I also think that there are just too many voices as well.

Gibbs, Bugel, Burns, Saunders and Breaux all "contributing" to the offensive planning seems to have not worked so well. I agree that a more authoritarian approach as opposed to offense by committee may be in order next season. At least Buges has the oLine so, he should stay but, perhaps Burns and Breaux need to go. That is assuming Saunders is kept...
And I agree on the contact issues. Although, I agreed w/ Gibbs' philosophy (at the time) this past offseason. Our team really looked worn out on the offensive side of the ball at the end of last season. Giving them a lighter workload up front seemed key to keeping them fresh for the play-offs. Obviously, this philosophy is useless when your team doesn't even come close to making the playoffs. I expect a complete 180 degree approach to our next TC.

I wouldn't be surprised if they go back to Carlisle next year....

too many coaches.. no apparent lines of communication or clear responsibilties..
at least from the outside it would appear this group needs pruning, an infusion of youth and energy, and some clear areas of direct reponsibility

We are the exact opposite of everything that is the Patriots. The results tell me who is correct.

i have wondered before what the lines of communication are in the middle of an intense game. Saunders in the booth with other guys, relaying a message down to Gibbs, who is talking to the backup QB about hand signals in the crowd noise, everyone's looking at clipboards...Campbell finally gets the call... i dont know if that's how it goes or not, but it does seem like they have a tough time getting the calls into the game in a timely manner.
if they are all on the same page, they should know ahead of time what the next play will be, and all the options thereof, based on how the current play works out. they dont seem to have that fluidity. i see a sputtering and coughing fit going down the field, lurching forwards and backwards...especially in the hurry-up mode.

That's a great idea. I think they've lost some of the camraderie they develop while going away to camp. Plus their "luxurious" facilities don't lend themselves to a tough team. They need to do like Rocky did in Rocky 3. Quit living modern and go back to where they started to get that eye of the tiger back ;)

You think we can try to get Danny a seat beside Craft at the owners meetings or will he be sitting in between Al and Arizona owner all the way in the back where they can't hear anything....
Can you see Al Davis..and Danny
Speaker; "Those who say yes raise your hands"
"And the vote was 29-1 with 2 abstentions"
Al Davis: "Huh what was that?.....":lol1:
Danny: "Wait I'm on the phone with the bank. Hold on Marcy....Can we vote again please!!......"

i am surprised with all the talk from the media that we only have 4 more coaches than the average....I always thought (based on the negative press) that we had like 10 more coaches than average....
