i wish nick would have worked out, i mean a local guy and stuff, but he just couldn't cut it in the league. This guy is young and has a strong leg. Hopefully he contiunes and gains confidence with field goals, and hopefully he can deliever a long range one under pressure (45-50). I also hope his kickoffs improve alot, cause he has the ability,

That being said, he is young and can improve, but we need him to be ready for next year and the year after, our window is closing with this current team and we need him to step up along with the other players. (o-line getting up there, d-line, springs)

I would like to get a David Akers type from another team. First of all, I'm tired of being reminded what a moron Norv was in letting Akers get away. After all, he's only one of the best kickers ever. Maybe Suisham can be that guy for us. To do the same thing to Dallass would just be too precious. ;)

I've heard that Suisham was a life long Redskins fan and wanted to get cut from Dallass. Apparently he and Jones couldn't get a long...

That's because he didn't cost enough. How could Suisham get along with Jones when JJ was too busy taking Vanderjagt (still jobless, I think) to the club and to wine tasting affairs? :D

BNG, glad someone got my joke. I was afraid people wouldn't get it....lol

I don't see how anyone not post-lobotomy can see how the ball comes off Akers' his leag and not realize that he has amazing potential. Sure, he might not have had the accuracy or something else, but the guy can really lay into it. And it usually goes straight as an arrow... no sliding back and forth in the air. Suisham doesn't have quite the same leg but it is strong and his kicks do stay straight. Personally, I like that. they don't need to draw the ball to get around a dogleg on the field for crying out loud. Speaking of golf, Novak looked like he was kicking Canadian geese off of a golf couse in every warmup session I ever saw him in. I could've sworn I saw feathers fly up once or twice.

BNG, surely you're not suggesting that Norv was wrong to cut Dave Akers??? How can you question the value of picking up a 44-year-old Eddie Murray?!

When you can't kick a field goal as long as your age? Nothing. There is nothing wrong with that. Forget I said anything, lol.

I wonder if Suisham is the real deal....he definitiely looks better then any other scrub we have brought iun (including unfortunately Novak) the last few years. I would kill to have a young accurate FG kicker again.

Well, we have two more games to see how he responds. If he kicks liek this, you bring him into camp as the STARTER and then bring in some young Kickers and say BEAT HIM OUT if you can! But I really like what I see with Suisham thus far.

I say if he doesn't miss another kick this season, we name him starter. Of course he can't be kickin out of bounds on kickoffs either. He kicks far and straight. He's good enough for me at this point.

all i care about is that we finally have a reliable kicker for the next several years

it happens with kickers.. i do not believe we were the first team that tried out mosely.

but it would sure be nice if we got suisham courtesy of dallas

let suisham kick a 50+ yarder, and attempt a good distance game winner(35+ yards) before we feel truly comfortable with him. although i will admit, im glad we got him right now.

i worry less about the 50+ yarders than i do about making the 40-49 yarders consistently, at crunch time

Eh...I'd like the Redskisn to pony up a draft pick and draft a kicker. I've thought this even before we got John Hall.

Its recently worked for the Jets, Chargers, Jags and Seahawks.

people were howling for nugents scalp last year.. and scobee was almost canned in favor of marler..

we drafted a kicker or 2 in the past and only gogolak and lohmiller turned out pretty well inthe long term.. am i forgetting anyone ??

That was early into each of their rookie seasons. Nugent is now in the top 10 in kicking % and Scobee is now 3rd in kicking scoring.

I'm fine with Swiss Ham for now. Heck, if he keeps making the kicks I might even learn to pronounce his name.

i read in the paper that it's pronounced "swish 'em" like in basketball, but the announcers kept saying it like "sweezum". however you say it, 7 in a row is pretty good.

...and a free agent next season, although he might be a RFA?
Swish is doing well thusfar, hope he gets a crack at a longer or more meaningful one in the last two games.

I am going to be very optimistic and say the the Redskins 2007 offense wont let Swiss Ham have to try anything much over 45. As long as he can stay consistent in that range....book 'em dana. GO SKINS !!!!

:lol1: I think I am at the point of whatever works now. I had faith in Hall, he got dinged and was done. I said, ok, lets believe in ***, or ****, and then Novak, ------ then.....well,,,, Swish.

I am sticking with Swish, because he's more natural in kicking flow, BRINGS confidence, doesn't have you PRAYING for it!

well, perhaps you could make the same argument in favor of suisham.

as long as he is making essentially all of his makable kicks, why do we want to invest a draft pick in someone who is no sure thing either ?

get suisham some competition for next season for sure, but right now i think we have more pressing needs for our few picks left

we usually play close games, so better to find out about it now, than next year when we are fighting for a playoff spot..

I would love for Suisham to finally be our answer at kicker. But until he kicks a game winner or a 50+ yarder we cant really judge. But then again, he can only make the kicks that he is attempting.

If we dont give him a chance for a game winner or 50+ yarders we cant really blame him for that.

it is still hard to argue against 100%.. until he misses a makable kick, he has the starters role.

again, i am not worried about him making the 50 + yarder once in a blue moon.. i am worried about him making the 45-49 yarder 90 % of the time..
that is the real divider between good nfl kickers and wannabees
