View Full Version : Could we face Brunell in Week 1?

League sources confirmed to ESPN.com that a high-ranking Jaguars personnel official phoned the New York Jets on Monday to see if they might be interest in adding Brunell through a trade. The Jets apparently said they were not interested in such a deal.

I read some talk about this earlier in the day among some Jets fans, but that was before they signed Husak.

I think that the Jets did not have much hope entering the season anyway. They should just wait a year.

The Jets turned down the Jags offer. So did the Cowboys and several other teams. I have a post with a link to the story in the NFL forum. The biggest problem with Brunell, I suspect, is that his contract is very difficult to fit under almost any team's cap right now. The guy is going to count almost $7 million against Jacksonville's cap this year. That's why they are trying to trade him. It's also why nobody is interested right now.

Brunell has taken such a beating over the years, his best days are clearly behind him and now he has a cap value that is untenable. I cannot foresee any team trading for him at this point.

Poor guy...... He's a great QB that fell off the map after Jacksonville went the way of salary cap hell. Never got the recognition he deserved, and now he's trade bait.

Brunell is a good QB, but he's the Marty Schottenheimer of QBs.... he can never win the big games.

That'd be Dan Marino....

Did you guys ever see the movie, Little Nicky, where Marino is in hell, offering his sould to Satan (Harvey Keitel) in exchange for 1 Super Bowl. Satan tells him he can't help him cause he's a Jets fan.

Now you know why Marino could never win the big game!

The Jets can afoord Brunnell's contract like like I can.

The Jets want no part of that contract, we don't like to overpay but maybe little Danny will take advantage of this great offer?;)

You overpaid for a rookie DT that from what I hear hasn't shown you squat so far in the preseason, one whom I believe didn't even receive 1st team all SEC honors, but we expect that type of talk from Jets fans. It's called the Bradway Spin. He has you guys under some type of spell.

B/c rookie DTs are supposed to immediately be HOFers the moment the step on an NFL field. Actually he is doing well, everything I expect him to do this year.

What does not ebing first team all-SEC have to do w/ anything? Troy Aikman wasn't first team all Pac-10, he was 2nd team behind Rodney Peete. Who would you rather have had?

Bradway has been a success in this league, what exactly has Snyder done? I think you have it reversed, Danny has you in the spell.

Blah, blah, blah. What did Bradway give him on his contract? That's the point. He gave him more then he gave Coles, which he claimed he couldn't afford to do, but his cronnies are still running around the internet talking about what someone else did as far as paying a player. What do you think Abraham is going to ask for next year? He had to be grinning from ear to ear when he saw that unproven rookie get major loot. Who has the leverage now? Oh yeah, Pennington is due too, isn't he? Since you guys have annointed him the savior of the world, I'm sure he loved the Robertson deal too. Ever heard the saying about glass houses and stones? Hmmm....

No, it's you under the spell. We are here living in our own little happy Skins world, but it is you who threw the little jab at our owner over here, not vice versa. You're definitely one of Bradway's Cronnies. He has sent you out into the world to do damage control for him.

nyjunc, its funny that you got onto Coles for not letting something die. But you still want to throw punches at our owner who paid fair market value for positions that we needed to upgrade.

Just my .02 cents......

Guys the reason no one wants Brunell is not his contract..that can be reworked...its because everyone and their mother knows that next year he will be released. Why pay a draft pick for a guy who is certian to be a roster cut next year. His age does not help the matter as well.

Good point on the Aikman/Peete thing.

On a side note, I think both the Jets and the Saints will look very bad because they didn't take Jimmy Kennedy.

No he never said he couldn't afford it but rather didn't want to give it to a very good WR as those aren't as difficult to find as big time DTs, sure DRob may not pan out(though from everything I've seen I am very confident he will be very good) but it was a risk worth taking. DTs don't fall out of trees and we got LC in rd. 3.

Those 2 will get their big time $ along w/ OT Kareem Mckenzie but I know the Jets don't have a problem w/ that b/c those are key positions so if it hurts the cap a bit it's not as bad as giving players at other positions big $.

nyjunc, its funny that you got onto Coles for not letting something die. But you still want to throw punches at our owner who paid fair market value for positions that we needed to upgrade.

My line about "Little Danny" was a joke(that's what the smiley is there to represent) but rskins10 immediately attacked so I had to counter.

No, it's the other way around. I had to counter to your tired "joke". No one around here thinks that "joke" is funny, especially after it's been told thousands of times now. If you want to make people laugh around here, try some new, original material. The "spin" you put on Robertson contract not being a case of overpaying, no that's funny. We could use alot more of that around here. Other then that, the Snyder retreads are getting stale. Unless of course you are here to make yourself laugh. Now that I think about it I did here an echo, the sound of one lonely soul laughing his ass off while everyone else moved on with their lives.

Judging by your posts you don't seem to have much of a sense of humor anyway. It wasn't meant to be a "haha" type of joke just a goofy remark. I'm sorry if you are so defensive you can't take it.

Judging by your posts you are nothing but a troll. Did you see anyone here respond to your joke positively? I laugh at stuff that's funny. Just because you are on stage doesn't mean that everyone should find you funny. I'm sorry if you can't understand that we don't care to read that crap here.

Not suprised the Jets did'nt want any part of that contract. I hear Vinny is not a good fit for west coast? if that is true they should be on the phones.

He had 1 full yr in the O and he wasn't great but he did lead us to 10 wins and a playoff berth. Last year there were alot of factors for the slow start but it was all unfairly blamed on Vinny. The O won't be as good w/o Chad but they'll tailor it to his strengths and should be ok.

Ohhhhh, now I get it. You are one of those that like to throw around barbs and jabs but cannot handle someone questioning you about it. It all makes sense now. You got a response from your joke, but because it wasn't funny to anyone other then YOU the audience should lighten up? Okay chief. Keep dreaming.

In all fairness, this what I propose. I'll ask any of our Skins fans members to register over at your home board and find a thread where it would be appropriate for he or she to throw a little barb like "Bradway blew it again" or whatever the media and fans of other teams have been saying all summer. Now since I have already made comments such as this and was received negatively by them at the Jets board that I said it at, I'm pretty certain of the response that will surely follow, so that is why I offer the challenge to another Skins fan. They will be attacked, be told to *&%^ off, eat &$%# and die, and any other thing under the sun that Jets fans can think of to unleash verbally in an attempt to rid themselves of that type of talk on their board. You see, they have their media driven cliche`s that they are sick and tired of hearing, just as we are here. It's that simple. Should they all be labeled "sense of humorless" eventhough the Skins poster added a smilie to the post? I'm willing to bet anything monetarily that it will go the way I said it would. History is on my side.

When I was in law school one of my best friends was a Jets fan. He used to tell me that all Jets fans are crazy, including him. He seemed sane to me, but when you look at those dopes in Madison Square on draft day, it does make you wonder.

Speaking for myself, I'll be glad when week 2 of the regular season is here. I've had enough of the Jets. I never considered them a rival, I still don't, and I'm tired of hearing and reading about them.

I think that is why no one wanted him. Injury history probably played a roll in it also, and he isn't getting any younger.

I predict that by October Bill Parcells will wonder why the hell he didn't take Brunell when he had the chance. Teams that, money aside, could really use Mark Brunell this year:

Dallas Cowboys
Carolina Panthers
Miami Dolphins
New York Jets
New York Giants [check out what they've got after K. Collins]
Baltimore Ravens
Arizona Cardinals

I think that I'm bit surprised that Billick didn't take him to serve as a bridge between the present and the future(Boller). I think it's obvious that they have given up on Redman.

I'm more tolerant than others. I don't mind opposing fans throwing barbs at us as long as it is is fun and as long as most of their posts they are serious about the issues. I think I am serious and offer good points most of the time but sometimes I throw a barb in, it's all in good fun not meant to offend. If it does I apologize but you are making it bigger than it should be. If it was a big deal(and obviously it was) just PM me and asked me to remove it or edit it yourself. Sometimes I don't realize I cross the line, if you think I am tell me via PM.

No one is accusing you of crossing any line that is drawn in the sand. What you may fail to realize is the Snyder barbs have been endured by the Skins faithful since 1999. That's 4 years and counting. We can count the positive articles from the media about the man on one hand, and I don't mean every member here offering one hand. Your one hand will do. Try living in Skins Fan Land and just maybe you could see the other side of the tunnel. Over the years the Eagles seem to be Redskins North, but none of us run around with sigs saying how much they hate Andy Reid and how he is the scum of the Earth.

Again, you didn't cross any line, but you cannot expect your comments to be accepted with a bouquet of roses either if they are things the we (or maybe the word I applies in this case) are tired of reading them, no matter your intentions.

Enjoy your stay.....

I wrote in my offseason Power Poll that if the Ravens had good quarterbacking they'd be in the Super Bowl again. From what I've seen of Ray Lewis, I think that is still correct. It's a shame to waste that great defense and Jamal Lewis. Stick Redman to third string, acquire Brunell, and let Boller sit and watch and learn for two years. Baltimore would win at least one Super Bowl in that time.
