from the Post

Spurrier said he still is considering keeping rookie tailback Sultan McCullough on the 53-man roster. Redskins officials were leaning strongly last week toward keeping four tailbacks -- Trung Canidate, Ladell Betts, Kenny Watson and Chad Morton -- and having McCullough, an undrafted free agent out of Southern California, on the five-man practice squad.

I think Spurrier is using the comment to motivate somebody.

Four tailbacks is pushing it. Five is out of the question. Spurrier's trying to get someone's attention.

Yea, no way five tailbacks are kept on this roster. Unless, of course one of them is traded away for a dt. If the skins landed Dalton, how many dts would they have now?

Five tailbacks would be ridiculous. It won't happen.

5 RB's could only come at the expense of another position, probably O line, and would cripple the depth there. Don't forget that we will keep 2 FB's, so that would be 6 in the backfield altogehter. There's no way we can affored to keep 7.

In addition, the fact that we have so many DT's with the same skill level implies that we are going to have a rotation this year to keep fresh guys on the field and wear down the opposing O line. To keep 5 RB's and 5 or 6 DT's and 6 WR's will kill our depth in other areas.

If Sultan has a poor game Thursday night - practice squad at the best. Regardless, don't see him on the active roster unless someone gets hurt.

Would Sultan not be picked up by someone else if we place him on the PS?

SULTAN HAS SOME SKILLS THAT WILL ALLOW HIM TO MAKE THIS TEAM. THE KID JUST SEEMS TO HAVE A KNACK FOR KNOWING WHEN TO EXPLODE INTO AN OPENING.

Hasn't he fumbled twice now in the PS?

Yeah, Robert, he has. He's got a fumbling problem, I think. Those things can be fixed, but no coach will put up with it for long.

Especially when that coach is Steve Spurrier! He puts up with that less than most coaches.

Sultan has looked good, however, all/most of his carries have come in the 2nd half of games against 2nd and 3rd stringers. I wonder if his successes would have been minimalized against talented rush defenders. (ie...Ray Lewis, Boulware...etc)

I can see him being placed on the practice squad alongside Woodcock.

I would hate to see us put him on the practice squad for dallas to pick him up.

Latest article point to the possibility of Sultan being on the active 53 man roster. Something has to give. No way we carry five backs.
