Can't argue with it....I gotta say I thought he had bust all over him but he has that intangible quality that wills his team to a win. He could be what we all thought Vick would be.

Not impressive numbers except in the W column. Should be an * beside it though because of their defense.

He needs to take Mathias Kiwanuka out to dinner.

I'm not buying the farm on VY just yet. I know "all he does is win" but he got quite a bit of help from the defense this year. And Vick had similar success pretty early in his career because he is so hard to gameplan against, but VY never looked like a great passer and he'll have a harder time once teams learn to scheme against him effectively. He did a great job this year though.

I always thought it would come down to Bush or Colston after how the year started. He defintely deserves the award though.

Vince's numbers aren't even the best for a rookie AT HIS POSITION. That award goes to Matt Leinart who had better numbers in every passing statistic but TDs which Vince edged him by 1. Vince was the 30th ranked passer in the league as compared to 23 by Leinart. Neither very impressive, but one definitely better than the other.

How this didn't go to Colston is a bit of a surprise to me. He put up 70 catches, 1038 yards and 8 TDs without a single fumble while only playing in 12 games and playing a HUGE role in the best offense in the league.

Agree 100% on Young.

And Bironas and David Garrard also. 5 of his "wins" were not because he was that great or even good(Philly, Giants-luck, 1st houston, Jacksonville and Indy). I'll give him credit for the 2nd Houston and Buffalo games, but he looked like crap most of the rest of the time. New England(a competent defense) had nothing to play for and they made him look terrible last sunday. As a pure QB, he's awful. But he plays with a great RB(well, a RB who had a great season) and a quietly effective defense. The question with Young is if he starts believing his press clippings like Vick did, decides he doesn't have to work that hard on improving as a passer(and he's still awful as a passer btw) and defenses figure him out quickly, or if he takes the McNabb route and gives up running for concentrating on being a pure passer(and McNabb was much more developed as a pure passer).

Wonderful. Another truly useless prize goes to a player that does not deserve it.

Well, the deserving less heralded player won DROY. Can we make this into an awards thread?

That was a useless award that miraculously went to the more deserving player.

I am surprised by the margin. I expected Young to win, but I thought Jones-Drew would have garnered more points, Colston dropped off at the end of the year.

Jones-Drew did a nice job by himself in the Patriots game, I have to say I was expecting the Patriots to minimize him, especially without Fred Taylor. Jones-Drew was a major threat for the Jags, was reliable week-in and week-out since the game with us in Week 3.

As akh points out, Young was inconsistent throughout the year. His legs are what propelled him into the lead, not his arm.

I agree. How can a guy win ROY when he throws more INTs than TDs?

I would have rather seen it go to a guy like Maurice Jones-Drew who scored 13 rushing TDs (more than Tiki, Gore, Westbrook, Edge, Dunn...etc) or a guy like Colston who had the best rookie WR season since Michael Clayton three seasons ago.

I think Vincesanity took over the ballots for this award...

Anyone else find the humor in Houston's 2nd round pick winning Defensive ROY instead of their #1 pick?

Marcus McNeil should have won. Starting left tackle, who played like an All-Pro for the best team in the league.

And Vince's stats:
184-357 51% 2199 yards(169 yards per game) 6.16 ypa 12 TDs 13 INTs 25 sacks 33 20+ yard passes 1 40+ yard pass 66.7 QB rating
83 rushes 552 yards 6.7 ypc 7 TDs

We bitched about Brunell in 9 starts and his stats are better than Young's.

Absolutely. Got called for exactly 0 holding penalties this year.

I don't think he got flagged for any penalties this year to be honest. I think Ron Jaworski (sp?) called for McNeil to get the award.

i was looking for his sack numbers too...i can't find them, but if i recall correctly, NFL live said he'd only allowed 1 or 2 all year.

i didnt think vince young would be all that impressive right away and his numbers cleary suggested that i was onto something, but he made some unbelievable plays to win games. numbers aside, i guess he earned it.

And he played blind-folded during the second half of every game, and with his right shoe on his left foot and his left shoe on his right foot during the second half of the season.
