With Chad Pennington and Mike Vick down and with us playing our first two games against the Jets and the Falcons........will be be too confident and lay an egg????

I have faith in George Edwards and hope that the D doesn't get too laxed and think that it's going to be a cakewalk. Are you ready for some football.

We have not proven ourselves and we know that. Since they are the first two games, I think our boys will be motivated to start off the year right and will come out in good form.

I don't have any problem with motivation. They have something to prove and will achieve it!

I have thought the same thing Skinsfan. I sure as hell hope not. I hope these guys know that the NFL is more than a one man show. Just because the Jets and Falcons are missing their QBs doesn't mean that we can take it easy.

Over confident ????? , You're meaning from a Defensive stand point I take it. Don't think so Mike - at least not until Thrusday. If they have a so - so game against Jax, I think they'll take a very conservitive approach (defensively). NOW, if the totally shut down Jax, the D might start walking with a swagger, but hey that might not be a bad thing either.

Offensively - we both know better!

I don't think we will be too confident vs the Jets. Testaverde has proven over the years to be a gamer, he knows the offense, he wont' be scrambling, so he will be going through the reads and letting the plays progress. There is not much dropoff from Chad to Vinny, so the Jets will still be a great challenge for us. We had better come with both barrells loaded against this team.

The letdown I fear may come in week 2 vs. the Falcons. I don't think SS holds Doug Johnson in high esteem, so the Defense may feed off of that and the potential to be burned is there.

A 7-9 team overconfident? God, what is the world coming to?

I believe the late, GREAT, Jack Buck said it best:

You can't pitch inside, but you can burn the American Flag, what is this country coming to?

Can't throw inside? I don't think Roger Clemens or Pedro Martinez got that memo.

Pessimism rears it's ugly head. :lol3:

Confidence is never a bad thing! I think we (the team) will play well against a good Jets team. Vinny and the Jets are not going to be easy - they have motivation to win right out of the box!:jetsuk:

The Doug Johnson/Spurrier thing worries me too. Hopefully Edwards won't let it get out of hand.

When Vick went out in Week 5 of last year, Johnson started against the Giants. He got the Falcons run started. I still fear that team.

Atlanta has a solid team and without Vick still enough to make some noise (9-7). With Vick - WOW (11-5) - this year.

We need to go out and take care of business no matter who's playing QB.

Yeah, but every quarterback is not equal.

Vick is unreal. I haven't seen anyone like him since John Elway was in his prime. Doug Johnson is no Michael Vick, but he's a good backup. He could beat us. However, I'd give us a decent chance to win that game now. With Vick in there, I had it marked down as an almost certain defeat.

I think the Redskins are feeling mighty lucky right now....as if the NFL scheduling Gods gave them a bone (Vick/Penn) because of their strong 1st half schedule.

The Skins know that the stage is set for them. Prior to the Vick/Penn injuries, I think a 3-3 starting record would have been acceptable against 5 former playoff teams and a contender. Now that injuries have effected the opponents of our first two games, going 4-2 is not out of the question.

This takes pressure off our DBs. Our D line will have to be prepared to stop the run, though. The Falcons were fourth in average rushing yards per game last year. Vick may have been a large part of that, but they have two productive backs in Dunn and Duckett.

I agree, Spence...

I had them beating the Jets, but losing to the Falcons in Atlanta.

Anything is possible now...

Not unrealistic to see us 2-0.

MY THOUGHTS EXACTLY!!!!! I didn't think that I was the only one who felt that it would be possible......if we are not careful. Our gameplanning will be adjusted due to what the alternative QB's bring to the table. Either way, I hope that we come out firing on all cylinders!!!!!!!!!!

NFL history is rife with instances of one week wonders (and even week one wonders!) who went back to mediocrity soon after. That is what has me worried. I don't want to see another Thanksgiving Day Cowboy repeat, by Johnson or Testaverde. Then watch them return to thier level!

There's a little bonus factor with Johnson in that Spurrier watched him play for a few years, so he'll be able to analyze him better than pretty much anyone.
