View Full Version : Last Chance: hRs first Pickem contest...
CarMike
08-26-2003, 12:04 PM
Alright guys, here's your last chance to sign up to play in hRs first "Pickem" contest.
We currently have 29 members signed up. If you're interested please contact me via PM or post here that you're want to participate.
The most important thing to remember is to choose the right game. We are playing in the "Pro-Beat-The-Spread" pickem contest. If you choose the wrong game, you'll have trouble finding our group. Do not choose the regular Pickem contest. Be sure to choose the "Pro-Beat-The-Spread".
Thanks for joining in advance. I'll leave this thread up until kick off on Thursday, Sep 4th.
Here's the list of players so far.

I did...thanks for the info. But it keeps telling me that there was a flag thrown on the play. I did exactly what you said. Typed it in exactly as you PMed me. With the capitol letter R and the lower case pass word. I tried several different combos as well, and none worked. Is the league full?

jsarno, I just thought about a problem that I was having at one time when I first started this thing.
When it asks you for the password, it may be asking you for your personal password and not the group password. I kept putting the group password instead of my password. Just a thought that I think could be the problem......

08-27-2003, 05:19 PM

2 things...
1- you have the best damn animated characters I have ever seen. I used to find myself mesmorized by Micheal and the afro man, but now Elvis has just added a great new dimension!!! LOVE IT.
2- I will not dilute myself and say I will win. Fact is, I rarely win the picks games. Fantasy games, well, (not to toot my own horn) but I rarely come in worst than second ( when it comes to pickems, I'm a middle of the barrell type of guy. Maybe this will be the year I get lucky!
Look forward to having a fun league with all anyway.

Gotcha!
The problem I find with fantasy leagues is people aren't as dedicated as Iam.
Iseriously study this stuff. I get 3 magazines a year and read all front to back. Then I go through each draft and calculate how many people are in it, how many positions I need to take, and then rank ALL players and the importance of each on a scale of 1-10. For instance last year I had Holmes as a 1, but Owens as a 2. (for the fact that the RBS were more important in that draft.) This year, it will be opposite because WRs will get 1 point for each reception, and keep the same stats as usual. Making Owens more important that a holmes or faulk or LT or RW. This is an art to me, and I take it extremely seriously.
Last year, I was in the top 50 in the ESPN fantasy league..there are over 250,000 poeple that play that. I came close to winning it all, but by season's end it was too predictable and most of us had the same lineup.
The picks are just flat out fun, and I look forward to playing with you.
So razz away. I'll start dishing, if EVER get in first!
WAIT, I am in first!!!!! HHAHAHA! (of course I am tied, but this might be the only time I see first place!)

I get a few an always take the FACTS then form my own opinions. Sometimes if I can't generate a true opinion either way, I'll listen to whatthey say...but I usually go by my own thoughts.
I appreciate the kind words GiG, I think I'll do well, but picking the winners are tough and usually luck. This is why women win a lot of office pools. (no offense AGG). I'll win my share, but lose ultimiately. (more than likely anyway)...it's fantasy games that I take MEGA seriously.

jsarno, some of us "lucky" women actually know a thing or two about football, in fact just about every woman I know loves football and follows it like most men do.
(Keep in mind, You all are not most men.)

Yeah, but AGG, there are plenty of horror stories about women winning office pools when they pick the team whose jersey colors they like best, or who has the cutest quarterback, stuff like that.

I swear..there was a wife of a man in our office last year that won because of how well she liked her experience in a certain city over another. This worked out well for her last year because she doesn't like Chicago or cincinnati, or detroit, or Phoenix. (not too fond of Dallas either) We asked her after the season was over and she let us in on this. We then asked her who minnesota was, and she said (dunno...the eagles???).
Of course there are woman that follow, some very avid like men, but most women really don't know that much. They could barely tell you the mascots sometimes, and they definitely can't tell you what "encroachment" is. This is nothing against women...in fact, I think the less you know about teams, the better you are at picking the winners. The more you analyze, the more you cloud teh judgement.
The fact that you are here AGG means you are not the typical woman fan. Frankly I enjoy your posts, and insight. I think you bring a lot to this sight, and I will enjoy playing with you this year.

There was a commercial about women winning an office pool, beating all the men, by them picking which city had the best shopping. I laughed my a-- off when I saw it, because a few years back I knew a woman that did that. (she didnt win, but she did it none the less).
My mother is a person who picks according to the color coordination. Every once in a while she does remarkably well.
But have you ever heard a guy saying
"well their uniforms match so well, i'll pick them"????

The only thing that I totally agree with you about jsarno is that sometimes you (a general "you", as in, us all)can over analyze the picks.

Oh no...it's ok to say "you". If I didn't over analyze, I'd win a lot more. Being a fantasy player, it's too late...I already over analyze without even trying. I look at a game and think "well this coach has this stategy and that one has this, and this should fit that, and that should fit this, so the logical answer would be this team!" IT NEVER WORKS THAT WAY. Pro Football is the greatest game on earth, it's the hardest game to get a firm grip on.
Like when Nebraska plays Idaho college of the blind, you know they are going to CRUSH them. 60+ POINTS. But we have NO CLUE if we will beat the Jets tonight even though we are more talented. ANY GIVEN SUNDAY...!!!
Even baseball / basketball / and Hockey are more predictable. It sure is hella fun to try though isn't it?

If you had said wr, or qb, or rb...I could go with that...but the 300+ pound o linemen....EEEEEEEEW!
