Former Arizona Cardinals coach Dennis Green, rumored in some quarters to be a candidate for the Oakland head coaching job, on Tuesday rebuffed overtures from the Raiders to interview for the position......Sources in the Oakland organization told ESPN.com on Monday night, however, that Green's name wasn't even raised in casual conversations until earlier that day. It wasn't until Tuesday that the Raiders contacted Green's agent to arrange an interview, and they were told he was not interested in a meeting.

I don't think anyone wants to work for Al Davis. For all the criticism that Snyder gets, Davis is a wacko who does meddle in team affairs.

I remember reading something somewhere saying that Davis already had his coach lined up but needed to interview a minority... maybe it was on redzone.org or a bill simmons column.... I don't remember... Anyway, this requested interview makes sense.

Its crazy that there are only 32 of these jobs in the entire world, meaning competition to get one should logically be insane, and here's one of those positions where candidates are saying no to an interview. Sad state for the Raiders.
I think Green would have been brought in for serious consideration, but Green knows a bad situation when he sees one.
The Game

Green thought it was for the rooney rule thats why and he only wanted to go to oakland if he got offerd the job right then and there. Green sucks as a HC anyways and would just be a crappy retread. James lofton will not be the HC steve sarkisan or josh mcdaniels.
Sources in the Oakland organization told ESPN.com on Monday night, however, that Green's name wasn't even raised in casual conversations until earlier that day. It wasn't until Tuesday that the Raiders contacted Green's agent to arrange an interview, and they were told he was not interested in a meeting.
That isn't to say Green is totally disinterested in the Oakland vacancy, which was created when the Raiders fired Art Shell after only one season on the job. Green's stance is that he has enjoyed a long relationship with owner Al Davis and that the organization knows him well and knows his track record in the NFL and that he should not have to interview.
Were the Raiders to make him an offer, Green might consider.

Dennis Green, supposedly on his way into town to meet with Davis, never made it that far. In fact, the story I heard is Green's representatives called the Raiders not long after Shell was fired and said they'd be interested in fielding an offer, but were not interested in having to interview.
The Raiders said thanks, but no thanks.
Green's camp would have you believe they rejected the Raiders overtures. Having dealt with Green at Stanford, and having dealt with the Raiders, if someone is holding a gun to my head, I believe the Raiders.

Take in to count that james lofton is proably going to be the OC and that steve sarkisan and josh mcdaniels are the leading candidates. Sarkisan is the asst head coach/Qbs coach/playcaller and he was the raiders qb coach when collins threw for 4000 yards/ 20 tds and only 12 ints. sark also helped devlop john david booty/carson palmer/matt leinart and is a discple of norm chow and pete caroll.

Lofton was rejected dude and sark was never offerd the posistion he withdrew his name becuse our old pal Norvell turner talk him out of it.
http://www.dailynews.com/sports/ci_5050467
sources said former Raiders coach Norv Turner, who hired Sarkisian in 2004, advised Sarkisian not to take the job.
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2736706
"I thank them for their interest in me," Sarkisian said. "While the job was never offered to me, at this time in my career, I've told them I want to stay at USC. I strongly believe that the Raiders' job is a great opportunity for whomever their next head coach is going to be."
The San Diego Union-Tribune also reported that Chargers receivers coach James Lofton was told he won't be hired by the Raiders after interviewing last week.

Jan 20, 2007
The following takes place between 6:00am - 7:00am
Coach Gibbs is sitting behind his desk with his coordinators Gregg Williams and Al Saunders and Assistant Joe Bugel. The office phone rings and Coach Gibbs answers.
Coach Gibbs "Yes Molly, what is it?"
Secretary Molly "I have a Ali Davis, CEO Oakland Raiders on the line for you"
Coach Gibbs "Put the call through Molly"
Coach Gibbs "Yes, this is Coach Gibbs."
Ali Davis "Hello Coach Gibbs this Ali Davis, CEO Oakland Raiders and I'd like to discuss an offer I have for you."
Coach Gibbs "An offer, please proceed."
Ali Davis "Well, I know you have issues with your offensive coordinator Al Saunders and I know you'd like to get rid of him. You just haven't figured out a noble way to do it. I can be of some assistance to you."
Coach Gibbs - "Proceed"
Ali Davis - "I'm looking for a head coach and someone who has an offensive mind. I liked what I saw from your team early in the season even though it wasn't very successful. I'd like to interview him for my head coaching job and I'll guarantee you I will hire him.
Coach Gibbs - speaking in a low voice "How can you make that guarantee before the interview?"
Ali Davis - "because everyone else available in the NFL, colleges, and high schools have turned me down. He's the only person I haven't interviewed yet and we both know he wants to be head coach."
Coach Gibbs - with a sinister grin on his face looking at Saunders "That's not a bad offer. How do I know, you'll keep your word?"
Ali Davis - "I can fax you a guarantee in writing."
Coach Gibbs - "Very intruiging offer. I'll get back to you with my decision shortly."
President Gibbs hangs up the phone and slowly walks to the window facing the practice field rubbing his chin in deep thought. He gets to the window, stares out of it for 5 seconds and then pulls out his cellphone and dials #CEO.
Riding in his Maybach, CEO Dan Snyders looks at his phone and notices the red l.e.d blinking. He reaches for the phone, checks the caller ID screen and answers the phone.
CEO Snyder - "Dan here"
Coach Gibbs - in a low voice "Dan, I found a way to get rid of Saunders and not make the organization look bad."
CEO Snyder - "I'm listening"
Coach Gibbs - "I just got a call from Ali Davis, CEO Oakland and he wants to interview and hire Saunders for his head coaching job."
CEO Snyder - "You can't be serious."
Coach Gibbs - "Yes, I am. I couldn't believe it myself. I had to prevent myself from jumping for joy because Saunders was in my office at the time I received the call."
CEO Snyder - "Can we trust this guy?"
Coach Gibbs - "Yes. He has offered to put the deal in writing if I agree to it."
CEO Snyder - "What are you waiting for?"
Coach Gibbs - "I just wanted to let you know"
CEO Snyder - "OK.....Wait, who will you get to replace him?"
Coach Gibbs - "Nobody, I'd do the job myself. I'll be Team President, GM and Head coach all-in-one."
CEO Snyder - "I thought you said you couldn't do it all anymore?"
Coach Gibbs - "Not after this, I'm back"
CEO Snyder - "Ok coach"
CEO Snyder hangs up the phones and places it back down. He stairs through his Oakley sunglasses and spurts in a deep tone, "We're getting rid of Saunders." Executive Assistant of Knothing Vinnie Cerrato looks over at CEO Snyder and says "We found a way to get rid of him?". CEO Snyder replies..."No, Coach Gibbs found a way to get rid of him." Cerrato then asks "Does this mean I'm getting a promotion to General Manager?". CEO Snyder responds "No, Coach said he'll handle it but you're still my best friend." Cerrato's head turns to look out of the window. One couldn't help but notice the tear drop that was rolling down his face.
Back in Coach Gibbs' Office
Coach Gibbs - "Gentlemen, I have some business I need to take care of, we'll pick back up with this later. Thank you"
The 3 gentlemen proceed to leave and Coordinator Saunders is the last to reach door. Before he leaves, he turns to Coach Gibbs and says "Coach, don't forget I need you to approve those new passing and gimmick plays I gave you." Coach Gibbs looks up and says rather giddily "yeah, yeah ok". The door closes behind Saunders and the coach says "NOT".
Coach Gibbs - "Molly, can you get CEO Ali Davis on the phone."
Secretary Molly - "Yes sir"
While Coach Gibbs waits for the phone call, he sits back in his high back chair and closes his eyes. He sees 50-gut, WR screen, heavy jumbo and a smile comes across his face. The phone rings, and he jumps to answer it.
Secretary Molly - "I have CEO Davis on the phone for you"
Coach Gibbs - "Thanks"
Coach Gibbs clicks over to the other line
Coach Gibbs - "Mr. Ali Davis, I've made my decision. It's a go. Please fax the guarantee to 703-Red-skin (733-7546). Once I receive the fax, I'll let you know. No one is to know about this plan."
CEO Ali Davis - "Thank you, you'll receive the fax in less than 5 minutes and no one will ever know about this. I'll will interview him on Jan 23, 2007 and offer him the job. This is a win-win situation for both of us Coach".
Coach Gibbs - "Yes, it is."
Meanwhile, sitting in a white truck outside of the Redskins Park...
Mystery Man #1 - "Did you hear that, they're going to dump him but make it look legit".
Mystery Man #2 - "Yeah, that's not right. We should do something"
Mystery Man #1 - "You're right. I have an idea"
Feeling really good about what had just happened, Coach Gibbs cancels all of his remaining appointments for today and leaves Redskins Park. He swings past the house and picks up his wife and they both head out to have a nice dinner. They arrive at the restaurant and are seated immediately. Joe orders a bottle a champagne and Pat asks what's the ocassion. Coach Gibbs replies "I had a good day.". They both order their food and proceed to talk. Their dinners arrive and as Coach Gibbs goes to take his first bite, his cellphone rings. He puts down his fork, takes his phone out looks at the caller ID and says to Pat, "I have to take this".
Coach Gibbs - "Yes Molly, what is it?"
Molly - "Coach, I believe you have a problem."
Coach Gibbs - "What is it?"
Molly - "I'm sending some images to your phone, they should be there in a couple of seconds."
Coach Gibbs - "OK"
Molly - "There, you should have them."
Coach Gibbs switches over to his image viewer on the phone and the 1st images is a screenshot from ESPN with a headline "Al Davis to hire Al Saunders". Beside the headline is a link to an audio file that contains the conversations between CEO Davis and Gibbs. The author of the article is none other than Lenny. A look of suprise comes across the face of Coach Gibbs which slowly turns into growling face. He clicks a button which advances him to the next image. It is an image from Sports Illustrated's website with a headline that reads "You Scratch My Back, I'll Scratch Yours" by King.
The Coach is furious and tells his wife they have to leave immediately.

I don't disagree that, if done poorly, such a show could cheapen the Redskins name. But, there is profit potential there in merchandising and increased brand awareness both inside AND outside of the US. And if the show is a failure, you've cost the skins a lot inside and outside the country. As for international marketing, you could do more by bringing in 5 raw players from a country that the media of that country swarms over for a training camp, then dump them.

Danny has seen his franchise jump nearly 50% in value(of what he paid for it) despite all his bad management. Letting it become a joke, or a punchline to a joke would be bad business. Going 6-10 or whatever or taking shot after shot from Pastabelly and Don "The Douche" banks won't hurt the franchise value. Doing a reality show outside or more expansive of the Hard Knocks that HBO did a few years ago would make them into a joke and drop the value of the franchise.

He's been the beneficiary of league growth and his superhuman ability to sell a new brand of hope to the fans every year, while squeezing out more revenue from obstructure view seating, outrageous parking prices, paying for training camp (once). He's not above anything for making a buck.

Except that all the franchises aren't jumping 40ish% in value also. And all that revenue squeezing isn't worth what it has gone up either.

Because of Snyder's innovative revenue generating methods, i.e. marketing hope year after year, branding 9/11 on the Monday night opener. You know, great businessman, bad human being type stuff. The Redskin franchise was a cash cow before he got here. He's turned it into a brahma bull that has a lot of unpalateable leavings.
