A lot of USC fans will be happy to see him go. He drew alot of criticism this year for his inept and inconsitent playcalling.

This is a great hire on the raiders part seeing as he to me was the better of the two that we offerd the job too. Id take kiffin over all the retreads out there and most on the market.

not even close to being in the league with guys like russ grimm, ron rivera, ron meeks (he will be next years hot def coordinator), jason garrett

if you wanted a fresh face, those were the guys al should have looked at. this is in the class of the todd marinovich pick.. a head scratchingly bad selection..

LOL pleasee.....our defense is damn good and ryan signd another extension all we needed was offense. with kiffin we will have that the guy studys with gruden, chow and carrol all the time. Davis has a really good knack for finding young talented coaches as well. The raiders will not trade there pick for vick its a stupid false rumor.

Yea all 3 of those guys are offensive minds. None of the 3 has done anything in the NFL. Gruden won a Super Bowl with Dungies players. Look what he has done to the Bucs now. This is just another reason why the Raiders are the laughingstock of the league. Game you gonna buy your #7 Vick jersey??

so...you're okay with going into the season with a HC that a week ago was nothing more than an OC candidate? the guy has NO NFL experience and no HC history at any level. if you're happy with this hiring, the bar has been set lower than i thought out in Oakland.

3 out of 11 (prior to Kiffin) isn't exactly stellar. some of the other names he's hired.

Art Shell (58-55 overall), Mike White (15-17), Joe Bugel (4-12), Bill Callahan (17-18), Norv Turner (9-23). Hell...even Shanahan was only 8-12 while he was there.

the only decent coaches he's ever hired have been Madden and Flores (and he was only 15 games over .500 for his coaching career).

You are obviously discounting the many HCs that made their way from glorified tape eidtor to the HC....oh wait that's right that has never happened before.

Maybe WWD should have applied for the job.

With a new coach comes new hope. I get that. I even agree that Raiders have had some success in hiring a young unknown, but when guys turn down interviews and another young unknown turns down the job and you have to hire as HC the guy you were going to hire as OC, there has to be some concern. Even the most optimistic fan has to acknowledge some disappointment with the selection.

Raiders | Moss and Kiffin reportedly start off on the wrong foot
Mon, 29 Jan 2007 18:40:39 -0800

Jerry McDonald, of ANG Newspapers, reports Oakland Raiders head coach Lane Kiffin and WR Randy Moss are not starting the year off on good terms. Kiffin reportedly had trouble reaching Moss by phone. When Kiffin finally made contact with him, Moss told Kiffin in profane terms he was not interested in talking. A source at the Senior Bowl confirmed the conversation was a topic of discussion among coaches, scouts and personnel.

that is so toxic that if davis does not do something to support his HC, the entire team will be lost and out of control.. it does not matter if they go 0-16 next year, they need to cut their losses and start from scratch with team players

I wonder if there is a scenario where the NFL owners association can intervene in the affairs of a clearly failing and dysfunctional franchise.

They did that with the Giants in the 70s. The Mara brothers were running the midgets into the ground so badly that Rozelle stepped in and forced them to hire George Young to run the entire franchise.

I always thought the NFL had an "intervention clause" somewhere (whether formal or informal) - thanks for the example. Rozelle had stones. This could be a real test for the new commissioner over the next couple of years.

Al Davis looks about ready for the cryogenics lab. Then again, he's looked that way for 20 years.

Another example from decades ago was how the Skins used to give away players to the Giants. The owners believed the most essential part of a successful leage was to have a good team in NY. They actually gave a back-up QB to Sammy Baugh one year who went on to have a really good career.

I'm trying to find more specifics of this on the internet (so far nothing). I remember reading it in the flip a day Redskins calendar from last year.
