interesting story. but here's the real nugget to discuss.
" And here's one last thought on the topic that's not entirely outlandish to ponder: Just how much money would Redskins owner Daniel Snyder pay for a guy like Belichick? Enough to alter the coaching salary structure, that's for sure."

I think he would just write him a blank check. Which would be absolutely fine by me.

I dunno, I'm not too crazy about him for some reason. Especially recently with the way he's been acting.

The problem with Bill is he's not likeable. You can't cheer for him. Having said that, with enough wins I can learn to like him.

sorry but i have to agree with pyro. the guy is a jerk plain and simple. I think belijerk is a great coach, but i think more credit should go to whoever their GM is. they draft INCREDIBLY well. Every year, they have atleast 2-3 rookies and obscure FAs no one has ever heard of before become household names.
I think one of the reasons for the patriots success is they get all these GREAT no-name unproven rookies taken in low rounds of the draft and sign them to rookie contracts. They refuse to pay these players what they deserve to keep them, so these players are constantly performing top-notch because they know SOMEONE is going to pay top dollar to get them.
We, on the other hand, sign every other team's players who are in that same situation. They come here, they get their money, and they coast. They dont play with that same fire and drive.
Modern-day NFL players are motivated by MONEY and nothing else. You give them the money like we do, you get screwed. You fill your team with players TRYING to get money, they are going to play their guts out day in and day out so they get their big payday.
It might not sound nice, but thats the truth, IMHO.

Ok, so I am supposed to NOT want a coach that has won 3 SB, 5 division titles, and been to the AFC Championship game 4 times..all this in 7 years..because he is not likeable or is a jerk? ARE YOU KIDDING ME?? We have been to the playoffs twice since 1992 folks..I really do NOT care if our coach is a nice guy or not.
Sometimes reading certain posts you would think that we are the best team in the NFL or something...

If we had the biggest jerk in the world coaching us to 3 SBs in 4 years, I can guarantee you I would cheer for him.

He can thank Tom Brady for those 3 rings.
I remember the guy who coached the Browns and was fired. He's not all that.

He would just criticise your performance in the press and replace you with a journeyman.

My point was that its not all belijerk.... hes a good coach, but alot of credit should go to the Patriots GM and their entire philosophy towards building through the draft and not paying through the nose for over-hyped FAs wanting a big payday.
If Joe Gibbs had come out from retirement and coached for the pats, he'd probably have 2 more rings by now.

Again I can take Bel. coaching the team, but as others have stated he probably needs to bring Pioli and Brady with him if you want to guarantee the success he has enjoyed in NE.

Brady doesn't play defense, nor make any off-season decision (but he did play a very large part in the SBs).

Oh really? Care to back this up sef? Aside from Tom Brady who are these great low round picks that they turn into household names and lock up to longterm contracts? It's always seemed to me like its Tom Brady, a great defensive front 3 (all first round picks), and then a cast of plug and players.

The biggest difference between Pats and Skins (besides Brady) IMO. They are adept at finding players that either have something to prove (Dillon) or now they have to fight every day just to stay in the league (Klecko and maybe Troy Brown to some extent). They also squeeze every ounce they can out of the players they have coming up with unique ways to use personnel.
We on the other hand bring in established stars with nothing to prove, who then complain about having too much pressure on them due to the size of the contract (ridiculous) and proceed to bench them to never get anything out of them.

Those guys you're talking about are plug and players. I think the 04-05 defenses were similar to the Pats; 3-4 great players then a bunch of hardworking plug and play guys performing above their talent level.

Absolutely. I completely agree. I was actually thinking about that in a meeting today. I wish somebody would pay me to sit in a think tank about ways to improve the Skins.
But I digress. Consider the contributions by guys like Stoutmire and then some more established veterans who were brought in but had something to prove like Springs, Griff and MW. That D was built on unwanted and unheard of underachievers.
Maybe the unit as a whole (including the coach) just got fat on success and stopped working so hard.

Uhh if Belicheck was availible and willing to leave NE(I doubt this happens when he has Tom Brady) id imagine Synder would offer him as much as he wanted. 10 million a year easy....
