this is from jlcs blog in the post-
Heard today that the Skins agreed to a one-year deal with Mike Pucillo, probably for close to the vet. min.
The Skins are also talking to Todd Yoder and that one could get done in a few days as well. From what I have heard, the team is not showing interest in many other tight ends.
I imagine Vernon Fox deal is something else that could get done by the end of the week as well, but haven't heard anything concrete on that one.
Still working on Dockery. Still looking at Flecher and Clements as the top targets in free agency.
Also, still trying to pin down precisely what the Skins most likely new MLB wants to be called. The NFLPA has him listed as London Fletcher. Many NFL periodicals do the same. So I figured, okay, let's just call his agent and find out for certain what to call the guy ... Problem is his agent is Drew "Next Question" Rosenhaus, so we'll see when he gets around to calling me back.
DCsween has a guest blog that I'll get up Wednesday morning. Skins will cut a few more players by Thursday's deadline, will likely get a restructuring or two done by then as well (sorry, Lisa, but highly unlikely to be Springs by then), and then we'll be off to the races come Friday
good depth signing and cheap too, yoder did a decent job last year so i wouldn't mind him back the rest is nothing new.

possiably, and like stated above, good depth. he did real well when he came in a declared himself a elligiable reciever in the jumbo packages. i like this sign, a move towards getting o-line depth. wish his deal was for longer then a year, but you can't have your cake and eat it too, unless we get baker and smoot with springs restructuring. sorry had to throw that in there:lol1:

maybe they sign pucillo long term this year if he starts and does well. if he doesnt start, there is little reason to sign him long term

he might demand alot more by then. I understand what your saying, be sure what you got before you give them the contract. but i would like our front office and coachs to know and be good at that so we can sign young players longterm and to lower contracts. my opinion, but i definitly understand where you comin from

I have read it is actually the other way around......pucillo feels he will be able to get better value for HIMSELF in the longterm and will use this upcoming year to audition for a bigger contract in the future. (why lock in at vet minimum if there is a chance that he can get a bigger paycheck in the future? If he stinks up the joint, he will either get cut or be brought back at vet min, if he excels, then he is cutting into his longterm paycheck).

Yeah, I am glad with the Pucillo signing....will be great for the Oline and Portis.
1 down, 1 or 2 more to go. (DD and Wade)

Assuming Dock gets cut, I could see Pucillo getting a shot to start, but I would expect the Skins to bring in competition (draft or FA or after draft FA). I think the FO thinks the jury is still very much out on this guy and they should not commit more than one year. Seems like sound logic to me and a gamble worth taking even if he winds up having a pro bowl year.
I thought Yoder did a good job getting open at the end of last year once he got a chance, especially in the redzone. I would welcome him back. Besides I want Sellers used more in the passing game this year rather than a new TE.

I'd like for both these guys and Fox to be signed by weeks end personally. They are the type of depth we must have to suceed, but Pucillo is a big step down from Dock inconsistencies and all, atleast IMO.

If DD bolts, the Skins may have no option other than Pucillo to start at LG. I believe the main reason Pucillo re-signed here is that he thinks DD will be gone and this is a golden opportuniy for him to show what he can do.
Just in case he is wrong about DD being gone, Pucillo commited himself for only one year. Another advantage of the short term contract for him will be his opportunity to get a big contract in case he starts and does well this season.

agree with all you say.
also, if DD bolts and wade does not find an offer as a starting RT i wonder if he will negotiate with the skins as a potential replacement for dockery ?
it is interesting how many other teams are raising the ante and signing their own players.. on the other hand, some are content to let them go
another potential short term replacement for DD would be adam timmerman who was just released by the rams.. he is 35 but has been an iron man throughout his career. last year he missed a few game with cracked ribs but is a very solid player. he was released to make room for richie incognito to be able to start.. but there is no question that itmmerman can still play
getting timmerman and pucillo to fight it out over DD's spot would leave the o line in solid hands
so there are options available for certain

I like the idea of signing Wade... but at tackle while moving Jansen to G. Jansen's getting old and Wade is a monster. Plus Pucillo would be a backup G, which I'm more comfortable with him at.

Wade is only 9 months younger than Jansen and has been less durable and not as good.

I wasn't looking at Wade as a long term solution... I was thinking in the short term, in the same way that we're looking at Pucillo. I would rather spend a 2nd on an OT in this draft than a late round pick or FA on a G. We need to find a replacement for Jansen and with Dock gone, we're not going to have a transition period anyway. So might as well keep a guy that we've had on the team last year (Wade) and move the guy that's probably going to G in the future now (Jansen).

Jansen is not going to Guard any time soon, if ever at all. Just because it has been opined here doesn't make it so. And you don't look for a replacement for someone who's ink is still wet on their contract extension. Jansen has a good 3-4 years left at RT.
And trust me, it will be a lot easier to fill Dock's place, if needed, then to fill Jansen's.

I am glad we have Pucillo again. This gives us a bit of depth in the middle, as long as Dock re-signs, but we need Wade. But, my but tells me Wade wants to start somewhere else.

I like the move to re-sign Yoder (good blocker and excellent special teamer), but I think they will add another TE this offseason, either a blocker type like Reggie Kelly or Kyle Brady or Mark Bruener, or draft a kid who has the potential to be a 2nd pass-catcher. They need 3 tight ends, and don't really have another one (Fauria showed nothing last year).
I am very happy that they re-signed Pucillo, and am very impressed that they got him back at the veteran mimimum. I thought Pucillo played well enough last year that, with the money that is being thrown around already to potential free agents, he would at least gage his worth on the open market. I am surprised he didn't do that, as I suspect he could always have come back to the Skins for the veteran minimum, even later in free agency.
I don't think they are looking at Pucillo as the starter. If he starts, he would probably be the lowest-paid OL who is not still working off of his rookie contract.

I have loved Dck's progression over the last few years, and i understand that the players need to do what is best for them. At the same time Dock is a good guard but not a great one. He should not overvalue himself. Eventhough I would like to continue the cohesion, he can be replaced. I would like to see some loyalty to the team, but can I really say that, because have we done the same in return.

IMO, the reason he got a new deal is cause he'll eventually move to guard. Otherwise, why would we sign a guy that's 31 to a 5 yr extension when he struggled with a season ending injury three years ago and battled through injury the last two? Sounds to me like we need to look for an upgrade at tackle?
I'm not discounting the great effort and hardwork that Jansen puts in... I'm just saying that if the FO was smart, it would be best to get someone in this year and have them learn under Jansen how to play the tackle position. Then Jansen can move inside while he watches over his "protege". No better way, IMO, of helping someone out than actually being there on the field.... Dock-Samuels connection is an example of that.

I believe tackle is the harder of the positions...more wear and tear on your body
