DURHAM - Duke University police are investigating a reported assault at the end of the Duke men's basketball game against the University of North Carolina yesterday.
With 14.5 seconds left and the game squarely in hand, Tyler Hansbrough swung his head violently into the elbow of Duke freshman Gerald Henderson. Luckily, Henderson escaped without serious injury.
In the post game conference, Coach Krzyzewski said that he has witnessed few more brutal acts in all of his years of coaching. "Sometimes players act in the heat of the moment. That, however, is the same excuse used by many murderers. Hansbrough should apologize to Henderson and should also be suspended the remainder of the year. It would be poor leadership not to do so."
District Attorney Mike Nifong stated that while he had not talked to any of the witnesses, he was going to push forward with felony assault charges. "I have it on good authority from Coach . . .er . . . one of the deputies, that there was indeed an assault and charges are appropriate."
