View Full Version : My observations

Players that made an impact and may have kept jobs:
1. Patrick Johnson - three nice receptions
2. Sultan McCullough - Nice special teams play
3. Todd Frntz: Couple of nice plays, one bad one
4. Lionel Dalton: My first thoughts, great pick up. He can penetrate the line.
5. Johnathan Brown: Anybody notice this guy had two hurries tonite?
Guys that may not be so lucky
1. Watson: Did nothing to help himself
2. Russell: and we shoudl keep him why? Stlill has showm me NADA!
Other thoughts:
I hate Danny Wuerffel's panzy arm. I think it was hilarous that Sonny kept calling for Hamdan.
Dalton could be a beast in the middle. Chase looked good.
Antonio Pierce has quietly had a nice pre-season. Anyone else notice?
Bauman is imporving
Jimoh was so-so
Did i mention i hate Wurffel's arm?
Hall's the man! Hasn't missed in any attempts.
Barker had a nice and busy night.

I agree with everything you said. It really scares me about who will be our backup QB. Neither looked good tonight.

Agreed point for point, especially about Russell. At this point I would have kept Cloman. Sorry to those that want to give the kid more time but he just can't seem to catch the ball in the game when it counts. Practicing good means nothing on Sunday if you don't do it then.

I think Danny's on the way out or he will be offered a "position" on the Staff.I mean really what goods the Knowledge if you cant get it done on the field?
It should be #1 PR #2RJ #3Hamdan, if that doesnt work this year short of trading for Bruenell (LOL) theres nothing we can do any better ,nuff said.

I want to agree with that, but the fact that Spurrier didn't play Hamden tonight isn't sitting well with me.

Rob Johnson's shown me enough in games where he was behind a semi-decent line with semi-decent recievers out there to give me confidence in him.
Wuerffel, on the other hand, really needs to hang up the helmet and put on a headset.

Yeah, I really don't think Hamden got the opportunity he deserved and it's Danny's fault. That just doesn't make sense to me. Get the guy in game situations and see what he does.
Leftwich looks like the real deal. I wonder if he'll play like when teams are game planning him.

I agree with you about Russell. He has not shown me ANYTHING yet.
But I don't think Cloman is a better alternative. He only caught 2 passes this preseason...and was never a theat on special teams coverage. Both Richmond and Woodcock have proven themselves better so far, IMO.
Folks..I have NO problem saying GOODBYE to our 3rd rounder from 2 years ago. Either you step up and make a play..or you don't. THats the nature of the beast. Russell hasn't stepped up. And if we can see it...then Spurrier definitely can.

I agree DJ. I loved the pick, I loved his speed, but the kid can't catch a cold. Some of the throws would have been great ctaches if he would have made them, in other words, tough catches to make, but man, the kid is fighting for a job, that is when you gotta make them. I dunno, he not impressed me in the slightest

Maybe ,just maybe this was Woefuls last stand.I could see the Daniel saying, ok Steve play him but if he doesn't perform thats it!A guy can hope can't he?

Maybe Woodcock will push Russell out of the picture and onto the PS?

I don't think Hamdan is in any real trouble. I think The Visor likes him and wants to keep him, but if he is going to be on the practice squad, why let him show people what he can so he can be signed away. My guess is he keeps Danny at #3 and Hamdan as PS material.

Your probably right. Although, as weak as DW's arm is, i think SS will make him #2
IowaSkinsFan

wuerffel will be #3, emergency qb, so that SS doesn't pull out the hook.

I thin Hamden is in real trouble. Spurrier shows his hand out in the open on a regular basis... and not putting Hamden in is a big statment. I think SS is still love-struck with Danny and will pu him in as #2... with RJ as #3... this is mainly due to understanding the system.

I think SS saw the real DW in the NFL -- SS called 2 plays in a row that should have been TDs. The first was in the corner of the end zone which everyone knows DW can't make that throw. The 2nd was straight down the miidle to awide open TE -- a throw he should make and he lobbed it badly. I was watching on TV in FL and the Jags anouncers keep saying he knew where to go with the ball he just doesn't have the ability to get it there. They noted as well how the Jage D was playing everything short and tight because they knew DW couldn't beat them deep. This also effects the running game and the Oline ability to do what they need to do. If the Jags and the there anouncers can see this , hopefully SS or someone else in the FO can too.

Some of you might think I'm crazy...........but I say Practice Squad Cliff Russell and BRING BACK...........Reidel Anthony (if he is not with another team). Why? Because Reidel is FAST (also) and can actually catch the ball. I thought that he was better than both Doering and Jaquez Green (IMO) last year, plus he already knows the system. He wouldn't make a bad #6. Also, I (for one) am not impressed with Woodcock (still prefered Cloman).

Yes, that was the main problem with Wuerffel last year. No deep threat, or even medium threat, ability which tightens up the defense. For this reason alone, Rob Johnson should be #2. I'm not a Johnson fan, but he potentially could at least rocket the ball around a little and keep the safeties honest.

I hear alot of people bashing our second string qb's am I the only one who is concerned with our No .1 QB? What exactly has Ramsey shown other than he can take a hit and get up?
PennSkinsFan

I have no worries about Ramsey. Ramsey was playing last night without many starters. he had a huge game against the Ravens. When the season comes and protections is there, i really have no worries about Ram.

Ramsey has the arm to stretch the defenses unlike the other two guys. Danny when he is in the game is a dump off passer. Why have Coles, Jacobs and all the other speed to stretch defenses if Danny can't get the ball to them. Rob has no patience in the pocket. He'll take off running and then fumble.

Unlike hte other two guys? Johnson's got quite an arm himself.

Cliff Russell, to me, has shown he can get seperation, which i like so he should be on the roster. Somebody needs to work with him on his hands.

I know you guys have had bad luck with Kickers, but don't get too happy about Hall. He's a bit of a head case. He's tough and loves to run down and make a tackle after a KO, but he has a bad habit of kicking the ball too low, or too hard and misses key FGs. Don't get me wrong, he made some big kicks for us, but there wasn't one time that he lined up that any Jets fan ever felt like saying... "Here comes 3 points" Same goes for extra points. :p

Thanks for the feedback Ronny, but from what we have all seen this pre-season, we have no worries abotu John hall. Maybe he just needed a new team, new atmosphere. The guy has hit everything, his kickoffs are friggin booming to the endzone. thanks for the heads up, but I like the John Hall we have!

Every Year he did the same thing with us. We would bring in someone to challenge him and he would be flawless in the Pre-Season. Wait until later on. :p His KO's will stop reaching hte endzone too as well, but don't take it from me, judge for yourself.

i actually wanted spurrier to play rob johnson with the starters at some point this pre-season. i wanted to see if he ran for his life with jansen and samuels blocking for him instead of elisara and akil smith.
JoeDaSchmoe
08-29-2003, 10:16 PM
He probably would. That seems to be Rob's first instinct. As long as he makes plays on the run and gets the ball when he needs to, I really don't care if he's in the pocket or two feet from the sideline.

I marvel at how blocked kicks are always the result of a kicker kicking too low. Line play always gets swept under the boards, almost never getting blamed.

Yeah, doesn't the ball start off on the ground.

It did the last time I checked. It's not like the ball is hitting his own o-linemen in the back.
