Ah yes one of your finest (and I have to suppose more humorous blogs to date!)
A briquet with legs yes, but so, right, a Tony Hawk, he will never be. I am taken aback by the quickness we laid on getting him signed up. However, when I read your blog, its good to have a player like that because everyone must keep their standards higher, he reminds them why. This guy wasn't on the NFL radar and has collected more than an approved budget for stars in rehab.

After Tony Hawk, because he still gets mad chicks and Ade doesn't have his own video game. Yet.
Having said all of that, watch him not make the team in the fall and make me look like Mr. Snap On.
Thanks a lot, Ade.
you are SOLID GOLD man! That may have been the best blog i've ever read.

beautifully written. really nice essay on an interesting subject that is near and dear to all of us.. redskin character
and if he makes the team, we will see a lot of him because he is on every coverage team on the squad.. and i bet mr jimmy williams, once of the seahawks, probably has a tattoo of daffy duck with a hard on..wearing #32.. or at least he ought to...

That's right, AZ doesn't do the DST thing. And I get to relive it in the fall. Last night, it went straight from 1 to 3, so I had to start drinking at 7 the night before to compensate, lol.

Good write-up and definately something to think about. however, i must confess as i read on, i kept waiting for you to say it was all a joke and we needed to finally get rid of jimoh once and for all....
i guess i am fine with jimoh, because we have coaches, who like rudy's coach, knew better than to ever let him step on the field as a defensive player, unless the game was meaningless. i love him as a special teams guy and maybe one day with hard work and a little bit of pixie dust, he will develop into an acceptable #4 or 5 CFL cornerback. ;-)

If you had to pick a quintessential Gibbs guy, who would it be? For me, it would be Ade Jimoh
I'd have to say that Rock would give him a run for his money, but Jimoh is up there :)

If I had to do an all Joe Gibbs team I would put on there:
Mark Brunell (constant restructures and a paycut and never complaining about being benched, twice)
James Thrash (quietly goes out and performs each and every week)
Mike Sellers ( a crushing blocker who excels at making others look good)
Rock Cartwright (Makes the team every year and does whatever is asked)
Khary Campbell (a force on special teams and decent when called onto the field as a LB)
Ade Jimoh (One of the best gunners in the game, period)
Randy Thomas (Has held down the right side due to Jansen's injuries and change in Center, plus someone has to BBQ at the picnic)
Ladell Betts (took a hometown contract and never once complained about not being #1)
Renaldo Wynn (solid vet and does thee hard work of stopping the run)
And one honorary mention to Clinton Portis who is a lockerroom leader and a fierce competitor.

The irony is that Duckett was a Gibbs guy. He thought highly of TJ from his time with the Falcons.

I loved the Jimoh write up - He's really started to grow on me because of his fierce special teams play and improved corner play. I used to cry when he lined up at corner and never understood why we kept him. But now I have a soft spot for him, and was glad to hear he resigned.
Still my #1 core redskin award after last season goes to Betts...signs well before free agency, no testing the water and without hesitation states he'll happily return as Portis' back up. I was really getting worried when I heard rumors of him being part of a trade for Bly, becuase it would seem like we were back stabbing him.

He definitely was very un-lavar-like there. Not to get off topic, but I really wish we could have kept him. Detriot gave him a pretty paltry deal. We could have signed him for a little bit more to keep him here as our #3. I know that may been a bit of over kill at the RB position, but both Betts and Portis have injury histories and neither of them are getting any younger. I love Rock, but I don't really consider him a running back. He's kind of like an offensive Ade Jimoh - you root for him and love him on special teams, but you hold your breath any other time you see him step on the field.

I am pretty sure Duckett did not want to be a #3 anywhere. He inly signed a one year deal so he is probably hoping he can beat out Tatum Bell and Kevin Jones does not come back from injuries.

I stand by my contention that Jimoh Sucks. He is like bad luggage.....impossible to get rid of and only good for carrying crap you don't mind losing. A CB who is a Special teams specialist is useless unless his name is Mike Nelms. The guy is a coverage liability...and sometimes your 4th CB has to actually play CB. I realize what a radical notion that is......

The TJ Duckett trade is a perfect example of us losing two chances to get more Gibbs guys. For example, we could have drafted the tight end out of 'Make Believe U' in the 3rd round and paired him with Cooley, who's an H-Back.

No kidding. There are only so many roster spots we can hold for guys on special teams who contribute little to nothing elsewhere. You've got, at least, Jimoh, Rock, Posey, Campbell, Thrash and Fox whose primary job will be special teams.

Thrash and Fox made significant contributions on regular teams as well. I have no problem with Thrash being a #5 WR and Fox a #4 or 5 safety. Jimoh should make the squad but only as a 5th corner and only if we keep 5 cbs. Rock is a decent 3rd RB.
Campbell and Posey seem a little redundant and one of them is going to go this year

No. Jimoh should not make the squad. What does it say about you when the secondary is stinking it up and you still can't make a significant contribution?
I also think that anyone who dedicated blog space to a bum like Jimoh should have to paint his toenails pink and wear one of those Girlie shaped skins jereseys (Preferably the Breast Cancer Pink one) at the next tailgate while serving as the Mod and Admin flunkie, running for our drinks and holding our spots in the Port-a-Potty lines.

I think it was also a bit odd, but it also shows either an eye for the #6 (it's definitely D if we do it), or getting Springs back and trade down (less payout to draftees, very little left except for a guard in FA, if we do that at all).
TJ wanted the spot, at least, that Betts was in. Joe wasn't willing to surrender that, that easily, especially when Betts caught fire. I believe, that had we made the playoffs, Joe may have had time to play mind games with opposition, with Portis at least being "Probable" and then STARTING Duckett.
However, he noticed he needed a faster paced game these days, than the slower paced Duckett brought. Joe Gibbs definitely likes to use the clock, but Duckett apparently didn't allow certain aspects to his game.

You and CNY both made really good points. I suppose we just can't have our cake and eat it too. Although I never wanted us to trade Betts, I underestimated how much interest he would garner from other teams. If we had kept duckett, it would have allowed us to incorporate Betts into all sorts of trade packages. Then again, I am glad we got rid of Duckett so that never became a possibility...
