I’ve been thinking all day since the Schaub trade was made how the Redskins will move down. I think the notion that a team like the Broncos or the Pats are going to want to go up to the 6th pick has little marrit. I believe this because this draft has too much paridy in the first round & picks in the 20’s though not as valuable as picks in the top 10 don’t have that much of a drop off. The 2nd and 3rd round also offer a lot of qualitiy. This leads me to the one man every team would love to have. CJ!!! He will be the key to the Redskins moving down
1. Atlanta from Oakland (Oakland gets #8, and Atlanta 2 round picks #39, #44) WR Calvin Johnson
2. Lions- QB Jarmarcus Russell
3. Browns- OT Joe Thomas
4. Bucs- DE Gaines Adams
5. Cardinals- DE Jamaal Anderson
6. Oakland from Washington (Washington gets #8, #44) QB Brady Quinn
7. Vikings- WR Dwayne Jarrett
8. Redskin from Oakland –Amobi Okoye
9. Dolphins- DT Alan Branch
10. Houston- Laron Landry
11. 49ers- CB Leon Hall
12. Bills- RB Adrian Peterson
13. Rams- Patrick Willis
14. Panthers- OLB Lawarence Timmons
15. Steelers- OLB Paul Posluszny
16. Packers- RB Marshawn Lynch
17. Jaguars- WR Ted Ginn
18. Bengals- TE Gregg Olson
19. Titans- CB Darelle Revis
20. Giants- OT Levi Brown
21. Broncos- DE Adam Carriker
22. Cowboys- FS Reggie Nelson
23. Chiefs- OLB Jon Beason
24. Patriots- FS Mike Griffen
25. Jets- DE Jarvis Moss
26. Eagles – CB Aaron Ross
27. Saints- FS Brandon Merriweather
28. Patriots – OT Joe Staley
29. Ravens- OLB Joe Beason
30. Chargers- WR Dwyane Bowe
31. Bears- TE Zach Miller
32. Colts- CB Marcus McCauley
Redskins Picks
#8 Amobi Okoye
#44 DE Lamar Woodley
The rest who knows??? It would be pointless to guess
I'm coming around to the idea of Springs staying but if he goes and we can get a 3rd for him I think we should go FS in the 3rd not first with Landry
I really like Eric Weddle but know if he falls to the 3rd. Looking at mocks with multiple rounds including Akh's who knows more then me he is going in the 2nd.

Atlanta just signed Joe Horn this off-season so that gives them, White, Jenkins and Horn and their frist 3 WRs. I am not sure if they would just move them to a 4th wideout becuase they would be costing to much since there were recent 1st round picks. I dont think HORN would stay to be the 4th.
If you get CJ you are NOT going to have him as your 4th wideout.
ALso there is talk and i am looking for a link for you but i heard it on the radio today, that the Browns might trade up to Detroit just to make sure they get Quinn if Russell goes to Oakland. So if they are willing to trade up 1 spot to get a QB then they sure would stay pat at #3 and take Quinn there, thus negating your trade.
Not sure Oakland can afford to drop that far and not get a QB!

DETROIT TO PULL A DOUBLE TRADE DOWN?
There's a theory making the rounds in league circles that the Detroit Lions could pull off a rare move from the No. 2 overall spot in the draft.
First, there's a belief that the Lions eventually will trade the pick to the Browns, flip-flopping with Cleveland the No. 2 and No. 3 selections. The Browns would use the No. 2 pick to snare Notre Dame quarterback Brady Quinn.

i highly doubt that oakland will give up the number 1 overall pick for that little. going back to the draft value chart, oaklands pick is worth 3000 points. you are saying that atlanta will give up around 2500 points for that pick. i doubt it will happen. unless the assumption is that the 500 point difference is worth the money saved by oakland. but then another strange question is brought up, if oakland is willing to take so little for the 1 overall pick, why would they give up so much to move up two spots? just don't think it makes sense. i really like the idea of getting okoye and woodley, but the scenario just doesn't make any sense.

This is what makes mock drafts fun.... Everybody's guess is just that and rumors are just that.
Interesting take and good work.

i think okoye could be a great talent, but id prefer the big guy, alan branch. plus, he's seen tougher offensive lines playing in the big 10.

Good mock, I think Merriwether might slip though and I hope he does because I love this kid and would love to see him play next to Sean Taylor. The Okoye pick would be a great one as well, but I think Jaamal Anderson might still be there, if things unfold like you posted, and Anderson is there do we take him?

Branch has, but I saw him workout at the combine, and he looked so sluggish and lazy. Maybe the thought of money is already getting to his head and he feels like he doesnt have to work hard.

These mock drafts are lovely from a fan's prospective but I do not think that we are going to ignore our problem of not being able to score in the red-zone or our lack of intermediate passing yardage from a receiver.
I think that we will address the D-line with our first pick, after we trade down, but with the next pick we will probably go with a , bigger, receiver.
Carter is set at one DE position and Golston will, probably start at one of the DT positions with big Joe spelling him. Montgomery will get playing time also, therefore, we will, probably go with either Okoye, Branch or, maybe, even Tyler to start at the other the DT position OR Anderson, Adams or Carriker to start in place of Daniels at DE but we are, probably, not going to have a bunch of young player without any veterans.
We addressed the nickle with Smoot and it does not seem as though the Bly deal will go through so, I think, that Springs will be with us this coming season and we will be alright there. At safety we just signed Stoutmire,Prioleau will be back and have Doughty so Landry will, probably, not be an option.
MLB was addressed with the signing of Fletcher, Washington is set at his position and McIntosh and Marshall should fight it out for the other OLB position, therfore, another linebacker should be out of the question.
Bottom line: we have, somewhat, addressed the "defensive needs", will probably seal it with one more, early, aquisition via the draft and THEN work on our next biggest need, which is our, intermediate, passing game. If anything we will get another later round D-lineman instead of a later round receiver.

I think the Atl/Oak trade is actually a pretty good projection. Calvin Johnson, besides being the top rated player in this draft by most pundits, is a Ga Tech product. As such, he would be an unbelievable hit in Atl. If two No. 2s are not enough to close the deal, Atl can always ship a WR like White or Jenkins to Oak (or, give up something like a 2008 3rd rounder). Also, I think there is a pretty good chance that Quinn would drop to No. 8 to Oakland.

If Dwayne Jarret's 40 time is around 4.7 as reported and there is question about his work ethic, who should he remind you of? Mike Williams.
I don't see any way Jarrett can go as high as No. 7. No. 27, or the 2nd round, or even the 3rd round is more like it.

I believe I read somewhere that Atlanta is VEHEMENTLY denying this trade-up scenario for CJ. Until draft day occurs and we find out, I guess anything is possible, you never know when a team is blowing smoke or being for real.

Despite the nasty rumors, I would be very surprised if Jarrett runs only a 4.7. I have seen every college game he's played and I've never seen him caught from behind, and he gets deep easily. He has the kind of long strides that are deceptive to watch. Ever seen a wolf run? Looks like he's just loafing along, yet he covers a ton of ground.

Woodleys a good fit in either. I think he's going to have a big impact somewhere early in his career. Whether he's playing DE or OLB or even as a nickel pass rushing specialist.

Exactly. Good post.
Jarretts by no means a blazer, but he's fast enough to get some seperation and has the size, hands, hopes, and body control to make him a playmaker at any level. If Jarrett drops into the mid 20's some teams going to get a steal.

Good post, I think Jarret has gotten a pretty bad rap. He more than likely will go in the 20's, but I think 4.7 is an exageration. Now the knock on his work ethic, is that because he didnt run at the combine.

I think this really comes from some grief he got from the coaches at the start of his senior year - he didn't do much in the first game of the year, got yelled at in the press, then turned it on (except when he was injured for a few games). The USC faithful often complained that he wasn't aggressive enough - not the same as work ethic, but maybe the work ethic thing is a twist on this.
Anyway, after seeing him throught his college career, my concern with him is not his speed but his aggressiveness. Will he be Rod Gardner or a real star? That's the part that's hard to know. I think he has all the speed he needs.

I like your picks for us and the thought process behind how we'll get a good trade down but why do you think that the NE or Denver trade partners aren't real options?
The positions we're in most need of are either in abundance (DE/DT) or not worthy of a high pick (CB, OG). If we traded with these guys, it would take a LOT for them to move up. Both teams filled most of their major deficiencies through a huge FA signing period. Both of the ammo to move up and have a need for an impact player.
Trades with either team would work out great for us:
Denver gives us their first, second, TJD trade back, Bly for our 1st and 5th rounder this year.
New England could give us their two firsts, a third along with Randall Gay (I'm not a big fan but Akh thinks that would be a fair add in) for our 1st.
I think we should be targeting the positions I listed in my "UPDATED Offseason Gameplan"....

Maybe the worry should be whether Jarret will be another big WR, who comes out of USC with a big reputation but a hint of a lack of top speed and a questionable work ethic. I remember the multitudes on this forum who demanded the Skins pick Mike Williams. What a disaster than would have been!

I wasn't reading this forum when Mike Williams was drafted, but I thought he would have made a great Redskin -- if he would play TE or the H back. He could have been great there. He would be fast for a TE instead of slow for a WR.
Work ethic is a problem for Williams, and was before he hit the NFL. I honestly have heard nothing to suggest it's a problem with Jarrett.
For what it's worth, I asked yesterday on a Pac 10 board that is loaded with USC insiders if anyone had any real information about Jarrett's speed. Nada - not one real answer to the kind of question that usually gets good responses. I wonder where the 4.7 rumor comes from.
