"The Redskins seemed to be holding out some hope yesterday of getting a draft selection by trading Watson, a former undrafted free agent who had two 100-yard rushing performances last season while Davis was hurt. Watson, 25, was the team's second-leading rusher last season with 534 yards, but the club spent the offseason trying to get faster on offense. The Redskins surrendered two low-round draft choices in recent trades to obtain defensive tackles Martin Chase and Lional Dalton, and would like to get one back."

I like Sultan, but I hate this move if it goes down. I could live with a trade, but if he's released I really wouldn't be cool with that.

Why would the WP put this out right now? Seems to take all of the chances out of trading him now that teams know he'll possibly be released later this week......

I look at it differently Mike. If you covet him that much you better trade for him because once he is waived anyone can claim him. I don't think the Post reporting it does any harm.

Yeah, I believe there is an order to the waiver wire or something like that. Probably need fast fingers.

Thats a good way to look at it. I had never thought about that with Watson. That indeed could be a good thing after all....

I just hope that we get something for him. As I've already stated I would get rid of Betts if it were up to me.
If the issue here is finding a spot for Sultan then I would let Russell go to free up that needed spot.

I expected much more reaction from you all ... this is big news. We've saying all summer how we want Watson over Betts. I can't believe they are going w/ Sultan over Watson - the later has 1 year of experience under his belt.
It's not about money since I can't imagine Watson is making serious $$$.
I hope we get a pick for him and not release him outright.

I'm not sure I would look at it as Sultan over Watson. I think they are afraid that he will not survive the waiver wire to be able to put him on the practice squad, and with so many inquiries about Watson they are trying to get something decent in return
I also think that they don't want egg in their face over spending a 2nd rd pick on Betts then trading him the following year. I believe pride more then anything else is why they don't want to part with Betts.

Yes Ben,
A lot of us like Watson and I for one don't want to see him go. I'm like Kenny, if I could get a high pick for Betts, I'd let him go. I just don't see that much difference between him and Watson. Some here do, I just don't. Some say he's that power back that can get the tough yards between the tackles. Well, that reminds me of someone we let go because he wasn't Spurrier's type and guess what, he can catch passes out of the backfield as well. Because Watson was an undrafted free agent, he's the likely choice to get cut here. Remember, the keyword for this season is SPEED and the coaches see that in Sultan.

I think if no one takes Watson in a trade it will Be Watson over Sultan and Sultan will be on the practice squad. Just my take.

I don't think Sultan will clear waivers for us. Alot of teams are looking for backup backs and I'm sure he caught some team's eyes.

sultan and trung are very similer we already have trung and he is not proven I would keep watson and betts they proved in a limited amount of time that they could run behind a patch work O line last season.
it is stupid to give up a back who has shown he can get it done for one who hasn't because he is fast.
