Good signing. Delhomme better step up his game or else he's done.

I don't think Delhomme is on the hot seat right now.
Sure, he needs to work on converting 3rd downs better...but for the most part, Carolina needs to work on their rushing game (24th ranked) to help compliment the passing game. (14th ranked) Carolina managed only 7 rushing TDs last year, versus 17 the year before. Only two NFL teams were worse in '06. 7 Rushing TDs is tied for worst in the history of their 12 year franchise. Something is wrong there...

Good signing for the Panthers. I for one hope Carr isn't damaged goods after playing being such a paper mache offensive line in Houston. I think he can still be a good QB. Personally I thought it would have been interesting if he ended up in Chicago because I really think he would have a decent shot of starting up there w/the way Grossman plays at times.

Yeah, but my buddy is a Carolina fan and the fans and media are tired of Delhomme's knack for throwing the key pick or making the key boneheaded play. I think he puts up good numbers with Steve Smith and Meshawn catching the ball, but people are tired of him and want a change...
However, that doesn't mean that the FO and coaching staffs feels the same and I'm not sure having David Carr puts anyone on a "short leash"? Now had the Panthers drafted a QB.... then I'd say he was on a short leash.

Carr will likely be starting there by the end of the year, as Jake is on his way out. Just my gut feeling

I could certainly see that. But I still think Delhomme is better than 1/2 of the other starting quarterbacks in the league. Sometimes fanbases get too picky about their starting QB; ours included. ;) I think they are making a good move by bringing in young former #1 pick to help push him. Having guys like Weinke on the depth chart seriously didn't make Jake feel the need to compete.

Yeah, put me in the camp that thinks that Delhomme's days are numbered. My father is a Panthers fan and he has been sick of him for awhile now. To me, Carr was smart to choose them over the Seattle. His chances of suplanting the current starter are definitely greater in Charlotte then they are in StarbucksLand.

I think he has the potential to be really good there. Now we'll see what he can really do.

I wish that darn schedule was out, so I could pick the game that Carr takes the reins. Oh well, I say by game 6. Next year, Delhomme will be a vet backup on another team.

A beer says Delhomme is the starting QB in game 8. (Injuries not included)

You got it!
I'm not too big on Jake. He is another in the long line of mediocre QB's that has performed well when he has a good team around him but can't raise the level of play on his own. Guys like him always end up settling at a lower level than what they show earlier in their careers and that is whats happening now. Also, his marginal skills are eroding.

Great landing spot for Carr. Jake did not look good at all this past year and was living on the good will he built. He better come out playing well or else Carr will be in there.
I actually think Carr would prefer to sit a year and get back to basics a little bit.

Can I get some of that?
Sure...why not?
To be clear...all Jake has to do is be the starter through week 8. As long as he starts week 8, I win...regardless if he is benched after the first play.
Deal?

Works for me.
Part of me hopes we do the HR tailgate in week 9 so I can collect on all of those nice cold beers. (And pouring a cup via the keg and handing it to me won't work, Kenny and Rich!)

Can I get in on it from DJs perspective? Besides... What is winning one beer going to do? Now you stand to win TWO beers. :D
So injuries are a push right? What about the scenario where Delhomme is injured but returns to being the starter before and after week 8?
Oh and I really don't care either way.... I just could go for a beer as I haven't had one in about three weeks.

Basically, Jake has to start weeks 1-8. If he gets injured during this time and he can't physically start, the bet is off. This is about performance and the potential emergence of Carr, not betting on an injury.

Check that. That's a if I lose scenario, which I don't think that I will...:)

Per KFFL:
i think that is a very good signing for both parties.
carr gets a fresh start. hopefully behind a real o line
the panthers get nfl level backup talent at the very least and delhomme gets real competition

Count me in the camp that Carr is better then Delhomme and should (and probably will) supplant him.

Carr will be starting by midseason at the latest. Delhomme sucks. That guy threw away so many games last year it was a joke. He's done.

I hope that Carr sits a while to get his feet back underneath him (literally). Like everyone else has said he's probably better than (daylight come and ya gotta) delhomme, so it'll be interesting to see if he sits the whole year or if he goes in during the season
