With NFL teams getting prepared to pick up 5 players for their "practice squads", who do you think that the Redskins should pick up, given who's been cut around the NFL??
I have two suggestions.
#1. Nate Bolling, DT/DE (Baltimore Ravens). Many of you may not have heard of him, BUT THIS GUY IS A TERROR!!! In the second Ravens pre-season game, he had THREE (3) sacks......IN ONE HALF. In their first pre-season game, he had another TWO (2) sacks....once again.......IN ONE FREAKIN' HALF. He has also had several QB "hurries", many solo tackles and has basically LIVED in the opposing teams backfield. He would be a great pick-up. You guys think that cutting Kenny Watson was a "surprise?" No.....Cutting Bolling was a surprise. HOW THE RAVENS CUT THIS GUY IS WAY BEYOND ME     !!!!!!!!!!
#2. Sign the BEST (back-up) QB out there. I don't know if there is someone who got cut who is better than Hamden. If so, sign him. If not sign Hamden.
Any more suggestions????????

Nate Bolling is nothing more then a preseason player, he's had a lot of sacks EVERY preseason but has NEVER done anything in the league when facing 1st stringers. Baltimores DL isn't exactly the most talented group and he couldn't get past some lower ranked guys that wouldn't even make a lot of teams rosters.

Hamden will be the qb on the practice squad if he clears waivers.

I don't believe you can pick up another teams PS player to put him on our PS team....
Or are you talking about actually making our roster?
Not sure but I think we're set with the guys that we will go into the season with...

Actually, I think you can, sorta.
I believe the process is that if an opposing team wants your player, you can keep him by elevating him to the 53 man roster. If you don't then he is free to sign with the other team.
Not 100% certain about that.

But you have to keep him on your 53 man roster or he goes back to his previous team

Another thing I'm not too sure of is if that player has to go to the other team, meaning that if he for some reason didn't want to go to the other team, he can choose to stay on the PS for the original team.
I would think that even if that is the case, it probably wouldn't happen since the player would be guarenteed a regular roster spot for whoever is trying to get him.

Hold on CarMike. I believe if another teams wants to sign one of you PS players, then they are signing them to the 53 man roster. But if you want to keep him, he has to go on your 53 man roster. I don't think they can go from PS to PS. So I stand correct.
Just found this also
PRACTICE SQUADS.
After 4 PM EST on September 1, each club may establish a Practice Squad of no more than five (5) players who are free agents and who did not dress for more than eight (8) regular season games during their only accrued (i.e., on the 53 man roster for at least 6 games) season. The minimum salary for a Practice Squad player is $4,000 per week (a higher salary can be negotiated), including playoff weeks. In addition, a player under contract to a club as a Practice Squad player is completely free to sign a contract with another NFL club during the season in order to be on the second club's Active/Inactive (i.e., 53 man) list. If another club signs a Practice Squad player to its 53 man roster it does not have to provide any sort of compensation to the player's former club but it generally must keep the player on the 53 man roster for at least 3 weeks, thereby mandating that he earns in 2002 the minimum first year salary for said 3 week period ($225,000 prorated weekly). Also note that a team can add and release players from the practice squad as often as it desires and the five (5) man limit does not have to be maintained.

Good find h2s. I didn't know that a player could leave if he wanted to.

Thanks
Me either. I thought if the initial team promoted them, they had to stay.

If we want to sign another team's practice squad player, it HAS to be to our active 53 man roster.
That is the rule as I know it.
Otherwise, you might have caos and bidding wars over practice squaders. :D

I'd watch for something crazy like a trade for Mark Brunell.:banghead:

I would LOVE to have Brunell on this team. I know there are A LOT of Ramsey lovers but I would take Brunell right now in a heartbeat. I just don't think we have the cap room or draft picks to give up for him.

Well, I'm not suggesting that he is the next coming of Dexter Manley or "Big Dave Butz", but he would provide some depth IMO.
Plus, could the same be said about Sultan??? You know, having a measure of success against #2's and #3's? Just a thought.

i don't want Brunell ramsey is the man and he will make mistakes but that is how he will learn. getting yanked for making mistakes would not help ramseys development and having brunell and his hefty salary on the bench waiting would get ramsey yanked in a hurry.

I do not want to trade for Brunnell but if he is cut and we can get him in here at a reasonable price, I would be for it. I know Ramsey is the future but what if he isn't? If Ram doesn't play well this year how many years do we give him? 2..3 by then we will be out of the 3 year window that our cap is in right now, so I do not mind if Brunell is brought in.
