Well, at least that's what Upshaw seems to think.

From the Post:
Bruce Smith and Regan Upshaw are slated to share playing time at right defensive end, but Upshaw said he expects Smith to begin the season as the starter.

Interesting

That is interesting. Neither one showed a whole lot in the presason. I hope they were holding back to let it all hang out in the regular season.

I believe Bruce always holds back in preseason. He doesn't want to get injured. I also read that Flemister starts over Royal at TE.

Well Upshaw didn't play much. And I think it'll kinda be like Darrell Greens last year where they announced him with the starters even though he wasn't one out of respect.

Flemister actually looked OK against Jacksonville. Problem with him has alwasy been inconsistency.

This would be another reason to bring back Marco. It would be nice to rotate Wynn,Smith,Upshaw and Coleman.

They didn't bring Upshaw in for Wynn's spot. It was Smith's that he was supposed to take.

I'm not sure that this is based on anything but the status of Bruce. I think gradually Upshaw will get in more and more. That late hit last week scares me. I didn't see it, but it didn't seem bad.

You think the refs have a stigma against him, because he is known for a lot of personal fouls? It was probably just an isolated bad call....

Upshaw may still not be at 100%. Either that or Bruce has enough burst left to beat out decent ends for the starting spot. Probably a combination of both. I know one thing, Bruce must consistently help out against the run this season. No 'cowboy' stuff. Strike that, bad choice of words.
