View Full Version : Lets start talking about the Jets

I'm sick of talking about who was just cut or who we need to sign in the future. Lets focus on Week 1 and the Jets.
What do they do well and what are their weaknesses? I think the key to the game is our D-line vs. their running game. If we can control the line of scimmage and match our corners one on one with their WRs, then we can blitz and put some heavy heat their old QB. That should equal turnovers and good field position.
On offense, our O-line needs to play well and protect Ramsey. Jansen and Samuels need to play better than they have in the preseason. If the line can give Ramsey time, our O can put some points on the board. If the O scores 3 touchdowns, I like our chances to open with a win, because I think the D and/or special teams will make big plays and score some points.
Any thoughts?

We need a balanced attack, just like against the Ravens. If Hue calls the plays on offense we will win. on the other hand if Spunky calls them-pass,pass,pass,punt-it's gonna be along day.

Trung, I have to say, you're gettin' a bit annoying with the board-wide Hue worship and Spurrier nicknames.....
I'm not sure our attack needs to be quite as balanced as it would against the Ravens. If I'm not mistaken, the Jets' pass defense isn't at the same level as its run D.

No Hue worship. Just stating the obvious. If SPURRIER can learn to delegate I think he'll do better than last year. But he's got to show me he's wised up.

Stating the obvious? Exactly how is Hue being a better playcaller than Spurrier obvious?

It's hard to tell based on preseason but we have a good ground game and I'd expect to see a heavy dose of Curtis Martin against your suspect DL. What I expect is the Jets to come out throwing early to keep you off balance then to settle down and hopefully CM & Jordan will wear down your D.
On D, we have an improved front 7 which should be good enough to slow your running game and get some pressure on Ramsey. The key is your speed at WRs against our slower CBs. If we can't get pressure it may be a long night for Donnie Abraham & Aaron Beasley.
The STs gives us a big edge I believe. The K's are close(althoug Hall has the better leg and gets the edge but not a huge edge), I'm not sure who your P is but Stryzinski has been great this preseason, we have the best PR in the league(expect him to break at least 1 return of 20-30 yards) and the best blockin schemes for returns. Morton is a great KR and gets the edge but our KR unit will open holes for Albert Johnson making the dropoff not too bad. I read where Morton is returning punts? Uh oh, he's not very good at that and he cost us a game at oak last year when he fumbled while Moss was out.
I think our team has the edge in experience, we have big game-playoff experience while the 'Skins only have a few players w/ that type of experience and it will be a big game on Thursday.
I expect a great game and either team has a great chance. I'm still not sure if Vinny stepping in will set us back while he gets readjusted or if your new guys will take time to come together and you will struggle. I'll have my official predicition before I leave on Thurs morning but right now I expect a great game.

I don't see how "big time playoff experience" is going to help you guys. We aren't playing in the past. BTW, we do have playoff experience......half of the jets team from last year.......LOL

I think that "big game experience" chant is one that is not only hilarious but outdated and overated. Going on that perceived notion however, I offer this:
The Ravens didn't have big game experience when they won it all.
The Rams didn't have it.
The Pats didn't have it.
For the record, if I were to be willing to go along with the "big game" mantra, I offer these players that do have it for the Skins:
Coles(Jets)
Hall(Jets)
Morton(Jets)
Thomas(Jets)
Smith(Bills)
Upshaw(Raiders)
Wynn(Jags)
Armstead(Giants)
Trotter(Eagles)
Bowen(Packers)
I also offer you two that are considered in the top tier of their respective positions:
Arrington
Bailey
Both of whom are the products of big time college programs (Penn St and Georgia respectively) that are used to playing in front of bigger crowds then what will be on hand Thursday.
All the players listed above serve as our core group. Again, if we want to talk up "big game" experience, I say that we can hold our own. Again, I say that it still overated.

Those teams such as the Ravens, Pats, etc... acquired big game experience throughout the year. They had to stub their toes in reg season games before they were able to take the leap.
Don't forget that your QB is very inexperienced and this is his first experience on such a stage. It COULD play a factor, it may not but it could.

Just as your QB (Pennington) was last year, remember?

Also, we have played in our fair share of Monday and Sunday night games over the last few years.

This is a little different. It probably won't make a difference but I think this is a bigger game than a typical Mon night or Sun night game. It's the opener on a Thursday and football starved fans all acroos the land will be watching plus w/ the soap opera that took place in the offseason the hype has been even bigger than usual. I think it will be a great game and I hope Ramsey has some jitters.

Ok i think Hall will do well,i think Coles will eat up their secondary,Morton will help on 3rd downs, and might return one if someone blocks for him and Thomas will yield no sacks.Oh, you meant thier Jet's :D

We will just have to disagree on this as far as the differences. I don't see any, and I stand by my list of players above that have participated in "big games" before.

You could be right but I hope not.

I'm not too concerned about our D against the Jets offense. I know it was just preseason, but the way we shut Baltimore and Jamal Lewis down, i think our run D will be at least ok.
The Jets had a swiss cheese run D for a large part of the year last year. Hopefully Trung repeats his performance against the Jets in his first career start (like 170 and 2 TD's).
They have an assortment of first round picks on their D line, (they draft one just about every year), so on paper their D front is really good. But on paper our o-line is really solid too.
These teams matchup pretty well. I think the keys are their running game and our passing game- because that's the supposed advantage against each other.
Even though the Jets have those "slower CB's", they only gave up 20 (give or take one) Td's through the air.
I think that if someone can say that big game experience plays a hand and that we don't have much, i think it's fair to say that we have home advantage and we're already up 3-0, =)
it'll be a good game. Anything can happen.

You can hope all you want to, if he has jitters they will be over after his first series. My predicition is ... Ramsey torches your secondary with a couple of long TD passes ala Coles and/or Gardner!

Our O-Line dictates the outcome of the game by far. Our Receiving corp is far faster and better then their Secondary... therefore giving Ramsey the time to work Spurriers offense is the make it-break it point. In the end, it is the Line that either makes Spurrier looks like a genius... or a continued fool.

I dont get it Nyc.... Your not even a skins fan, why the hell are you even talking on this forum... go to the damn jet fan forum and talk to jet fans.
Both our corners and safties dominate jets wr (santana moss, what a joke)
With newly aquired dalton and chase in our d-line... they will push back your sorry linemen (beside mawue) so our lbs cant get in and destroy martin and jordan
Coles will burn abraham for at least one td and 100 yards
Ramsey willl be confident in the pocket as ever while our o-line shuts down john abraham and dwayne robertson.
I predict at least a 3 score win if not worse

Tonedog, this is exactly what we don't wanna see on these boards. Junc's just as free to post here as you are, and he brings opinions from the view of an outsider, which are useful. Don't tell anyone to leave hR because they're fans of another team.

Seriously though, JDS is right. nyjunc is free to post here all he wants. You may not like what he has to say sometimes (Lord knows I speak from experience:rpunch: ) but he is still allowed to do so as long as he follows our rules, which he has.

Thank you for kind words. I like to get the view of the opposing team, to find out what their fans think about their chances and their views on my team. I'm sorry if you can't tolerate opposing fans, it;s not as if I have bashed your team though. I give you guys a good shot, it should be a very good game.

It should be, my final prediction is 'Skins 65 Jets 3. It will feel like a UF-Vandy game for Spurrier.

what i mean by a very good blowout for the skins is that the skins will beat down the jets not the other way around

The Skins will win the game if they do 2 things
1. Lower the amount of penalties,
2. 0 turnovers

That's exactly how we win, we have been the lowest penalized team in the NFL the past 2 years and are among the best in TO ratio. I'm not sure if this is true(I haven't checked it out) but according to Herm in the 2 years he's been there when the Jets are at least +1 they are undefeated.

Hmmm... I didn't know that allowing a fan of another team post on our boards that his team will win makes me a bad fan. Guess I'll have to throw out all my jerseys, quit my gameday rituals, toss the mini-helmets and babbleheads, shred the hats, and rip up the posters, because those don't show I'm a fan or anything like that.

first of can i say that im ssssoooooo happy that this thread is about a real game! R U ready for some footbal!!!
of course, one of the keys to this game will be if ramsey is calm, cool and collected. he needs to take command and make good decisions right off the bat. if he does, the game, IMO wont be close. the jets have had some trouble as of late against the run, so we need to establish a running game to build momentum for this game and for the season. for the skins to be successful on offense, teams are gonna have to fear trung and the boys. on defense, ill be looking to see how the new guys, dalton, chase, upshaw and bowen do. the D cant let martinand/or jordan break any tackles and gain 9, 10, 11 yards a gain. wrap up fellas! we need to get a couple of 3 and outs and frustrate va-va-va-vinny and the jets. i think hall will have at least 3 FGs in the game and the skins win....30-20.

If you think nyjunc talks crap, wait til you read some of Ronnys stuff and then there's RavenRick and.........I think nyjunc posts are of much more substance than crap, compared to some others.
With that said, I really enjoy reading the opp fans posts and debating fact and fiction and such. When we win a game, it's even more fun when they return, which they are men and do.
